UPDATE 1/12/10 - Oh my gosh . . . you would never know this year old hound/lab mix originally hailed from the South.  He sooo loves the snow.  My husband was kind enough to snow blow a circle out in the back yard so Skeeter could better navigate in the deeper snow.  However, it was totally unneccessary as Skeeter took it upon himself to trample down the rest of the yard, leaving no snowflake unturned!  What fun it is to be a dog!  Can't wait for mud season . . .

UPDATE 12/15/09 - Skeeter continues to get used to his new family and living in the city.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday he was introduced to his cousin Tobey, who is a rescue dog living the past four years with our daughter and son-in-law.  Meeting more new people is an adventure and getting a Thanksgiving raw-hide treat was not too tough to take either.  Can't wait for Christmas...  Happy Holidays everyone.

UPDATE 11/14/09 - Skeeter is adjusting slowly but surely.  He likes going out for long walks, checking the neighborhood out, and is of great assistance raking the leaves in his back yard.  We have been to the vet a couple of times, getting all our vacinations current for doggie training class.  We are taking medicine for tapeworm and for yeast found in both ears.  Other than that, life is good.  Our next big adventure is getting ready for guests at Thanksgiving dinner - still not too keen on visitors at the house yet - but we're working on it.

10/15/09 - Skeeter has been adopted!

Hi! hi hi hi hi hi!!! Its meee!!!! Foshternommy was working on the computer doing something with this page thing, but she had to get up for a sec, so I thought I'd get on here and give y'all an update on me! Foshternommy says I'm getting really big, but she's usually saying that when I'm laying on top of her in bed. She's so comfy! I like to make her make this funny noise. She does it when I jump up on the bed and land on her tummy with my two front paws. She makes this "OOF" noise and it makes me giggle. Then I just walk the rest of the way up to her chin and lick and lick and lick! I love lickinnnnggggg!!! I also like nibbling, too, but that makes her mad... so I try to stop, but mostly I just forget I'm not supposed to and chew on her fingers again. <sigh> Its so hard to remember all the things I'm supposed and not supposed to do.
I have a couple friends here. One is an old guy who likes to growl at me alot. I just roll on my back and keep doing whatever it was that annoyed him in the first place. The other pal is black, like me, but he's so MUCH bigger!! We like to play tag and wrestle. I jump up to try and bite his neck or ear and he just changes direction... and the race is on!!! We're working on a project right now... see, these things have moved into the rock wall in the back yard. They look like rats with really long bushy tails. They're always running around OUR YARD and collecting stuff. Well, we can't have that! What if they "collect" all my toys I've hidden?!? Disaster!!! So Q and I spend a lot of time patrolling along the rocks and watching them up in the trees. SQUIRREL!
Fostergamma is visiting this week. She's so funny when she gets all flustered with me. She always finds me when I sneak into bed with her. She doesn't make funny noises like nommy. She makes me get down. :>( But, she also says I'm a really good dog and my ears are
so soft. She's says she knows that I try to be good, but its hard to remember because I'm still a puppy. Then she smiles and tells me how handsome I am. Then I prance and giggle and licklicklick her face.... THEN she makes a funny noise and sputters!!

This guy is really coming into his own. He's grown another spurt and he's bigger than I ever thought he'd get. He loves to play... by himself or with another. He can be a little irritating to the older dogs, but he's easily distracted to go do something else. He still likes to lead with his mouth. I have only begun working on his training with this. He'll chew anything: fingers, toes, ankles, shoes, pant legs, other dogs. Sometimes, I think he could do it in his sleep. Strangely, he's not destructive with anything in the house (but my favorite pair of shoes, of course) unless its a toy I've given him. At the same time, he's just so cute and cuddly that its impossible to put on a good angry for him. He's a food hog and has to be the first at everything... littlest dog syndrome, I guess. But, we've got a litter of new puppies in the house and he's completely gentle with them. The mom has no problem with him sniffing and nuzzling them.
Skeety Petey is just one of the best dogs I've ever fostered and if his forever family doesn't come and find him.... that's just dandy with me!! LOL

This little man is growing like a champ! He's probably twice the size he was when he came to me. He's a little devil. He will play and play and play! Then when he wants to cuddle, he wants his "mommy". He just wants to curl up and stop for the day by burying himself into your side. The funny thing is, he can't even really stop moving, even in his sleep! He wiggles and creeps up and down the bed or couch, never really waking up. Too funny!
He gets a little big for his britches with the bigger dogs around here sometimes. Because he's so little, he's got "short guy syndrome" and feels like he has to be growly to be run with the big dogs. He stops with one sharp word from the Biggest Dog (me) and then kinda rolls on his back as if to say "ok, you got me". When he tries to pull his puppiness on my old man, he runs up, drops onto his back and THEN tries to pull the puppy growl and snip. He just
knows that Shadow is going to roll him over when he "schools" him, so he just starts the encounter that way.
He's still pretty snippy. He still likes to mouthe everything, including my body parts. He has been known to be asleep next to me on the couch, I'm talking on the phone when all of a sudden I let out a YOWL because he's decided to play chomp my big toe!!! I'm working on it (as is Shadow), but sometimes, its so funny that its hard to pull off the discipline part!
There isn't any family that this little man wouldn't make brighter! As cheeky as he is, I'm totally in love with this little guy!! He makes me smile and is just a treat to have around!!! Don't you want to join the fun and take him home with you????

This little dude doesn't sit still long enough to take a good picture. Sooooo, here he is, live in Technicolor!! Check out how he doesn't let something like a 72 pound boxer get between  him and his toys at the end of the 1st video? Those little puppy teeth and that little puppy snarl sure sent Kobe running! That was after about 3 hours of Kobe bugging and badgering him. I wouldn't have held out that long! This little guy just makes me smile. (Well, ok, when I'm not yelping when he bites my toes or when I call him "Demon Child" hahahaha)

- This little guy came from one of our sister shelters in the South. He was surrendered by his Momma's owner. I suspect she was the Blue Heeler (cousin to the Australian Cattle Dog) and Daddy is the mystery... although, take one look at him and its not a wild guess. He was at the shelter for 2 1/2 months and then made the trip north. Who wouldn't want a 3 month old puppy?!?
What a delight this little guy is!!! He's under my feet right now snorting and huffing while he makes short work of a squeaky stuffed toy. He's a typical lab puppy, he's a toy monger! He chases everything and collects all the stuffed toys. He wants to play play play, but the big dogs are still a little scary, so he wants to do all that playing with ME! I thought my own lab puppy was going to have a heart attack when Skeeter walked in! He was so excited! Someone else looked like him!
This little guy is not submissive in any way but his size. He got tired of Kobe trying to step on him and when I turned around at his little growl, I saw him chasing Kobe (72 lbs) back up on to the porch steps. Enough was enough! Other than that, he's roly poly with all the dogs (if Kobe stops being a knucklehead) and follows them around, so long as he doesn't lose sight of me. I don't suspect that will last long and I'll be left alone here while they're outside playing.
I don't think he's going to be a big dog. His tail is somehow docked to about 1/2 a lab's usual tail. It sticks up like a Jack Russell Terrier's and is always going in circles wagging. He's got short little legs and a small, pointier face that I think he gets from the Heeler side of the family. His coat is the strange thing. In the sun, its auburn. He stands next to my black lab and he's not black, he's a red, brown. Its really cool and oooohhhhh so soft! His ears are the funniest part. They're HUGE! Dumbo must have been in the gene pool. And wait until you hear the howl!
This is one of the sweetest dogs ever! Are you looking for a guy who can just make you smile while he amuses himself and the comes over for some lovin'? He's the boy for you!
