UPDATE 12/4/09 - It seems as if Bo has always been with us...and we wouldn't want it any other way!  He is doing very well in his obedience class; the instructor laughs when he is the first to get the lesson.  He is a treat hog and quickly figured out every trick that she has for "hiding the treat" until he learns.  It really is very cute.
He and our boxer girl Roxy (01/08) are great pals.  They are almost always napping together and they love to tear around the backyard or even have a game of tug.
He is very good with our daughters as well.  If we could just trust him to not make-off with their stuffed animals, he would choose to sleep in their room at night.  Maybe some day when we have gotten past the puppy/chewing stage.  Thanks again SCBR for letting us adopt this loving boy.

9/16/09 - Peabo has been adopted!

09/06/09
well, another month has passed here in NJ. the "dog days of summer" are supposedly at their end.  (someone has to explain that to me.  if they were "dog days"  why didn't we get presents every day?  at least a card would've been nice...)
FM has told me that there were a few nibbles for information on me, but I haven't landed my new home yet.  Another euphemism for my forever family hasn't found me yet.  There are times that this is so rough I just want to cry.  Luckily I am in a home where the skin kids and girl boxer don't give me much time to think negatively I know that some of the information on my breed can make some of you second guess adopting me.  My foster mom is going to take over here...I am going to go out to the yard now and play with the kids.  She'll vouch for me.
hello everyone!  Your home probably isn't so different from ours.  We have 2 dogs...this beautiful boy Bo and our boxer girl Roxy, two little girls ages 3 & 5, and two cats that hate dogs, which can make things in our home cartoonish at times.  Lots of noise and laughter and love.  Bo thrives here and can do so in your home as well, but there are a few recommendations that have prevented him from finding that forever home he deserves.
Bo is a guard dog AND a wonderful companion.  He really needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard that he can identify as being his. We haven't done a whole bunch of walks in the neighborhood since he does get a bit anxious and wants to return home.  Bo really enjoys playing in the back yard for his exercise.
He is extremely intelligent and protective, but if you or a family member are the ones to open the door and greet visitors Bo easily recognizes your approval.   The few occasions where we have had multiple people over  we have simply crated Bo until everyone has arrived and then let him join in the party afterward.  He greets everyone and then sits back to watch the crowd usually staying very near to me.  If there is going to be rough-housing with the kids then he needs to be kept on a lead so that he doesn't misinterpret a threat to his girls.  From what I understand this is an area that can be worked on with formal training.  Bo is highly trainable and has easily learned to categorize a true threat from something benign like a neighbor talking over the fence (which my neighbors are very grateful for!)
If you are looking for a companion dog for a four-legged family member, then Bo should be teamed up with a female.  He has done well with the two other boy fosters that have been in residence while he is here, but he is definitely more accepting of the girls.  He loves to run and play rough.  He doesn't "box" but he knows a good game of tackle!
Bo has probably reached his max in height, but is expected to bulk up a little bit more.  He is still really a puppy and continues to need work on not stealing the kids toys.  When he gets very excited he will still jump up, but sits on command which is working well for all of us.  He is SO smart, that he knows the difference between the normal activity in our home versus when we are getting ready to go out.  Most of the time he has gone into his crate without me having to say a word to him before we leave.
I cannot say enough about how wonderful this boy is.  He will be a great addition to your family and will most likely rise to the top of your all-time favorite pet list.  He is at the top of my foster list!  Don't pass by this amazing dog.  He will provide you with years of loyalty and love.

okay...I've checked the website and I see my profile RIGHT HERE!  I've asked FM/FD to contact the IT people for SCBR because I just don't understand.......how can I still be waiting for my forever home?  There has to be a miscommunication or some technical error.  There is NO rational explanation of why I haven't been chosen yet!
Just in case FM hasn't been clear before now please allow me to list my attributes. (you'll see in a moment why I am at a loss!)
I'm drop-dead gorgeous!  maybe you just can't appreciate my long lashes on these pictures? gaze into my amber eyes and fall in love.......
I'm SUPER intelligent and highly trainable!  I love to learn new things and I bask in praise. (the treats I get are a great perk too!)
I am energetic and agile!  see if YOU can keep up with me!  I double-dog dare you!
I am a vigilant guardian.  You will always be safe with me.
I am just as happy to hang out and snuggle with you at the end of your day.  You can confide in me about anything.  As long as you treat me well...I'll never pass judgement on you.
Those are just the TOP 5 reasons to call me your own.  There are more....believe me!  Any dog can provide SOME of those qualities, but ALL of them in ONE companion?  I know!  It is hard to believe,  but it is true!  I am one in a million so don't let me slip past you.  Call....I am waiting for YOU!

HI!!!!!!  My name is Bo and I am looking for a family that not only wants an awesome playmate, but that can appreciate and work with me on some of my breed traits.  I almost found a forever home, but once my FM talked a bit more with the family that was interested they decided that it just wasn't a very good match.  One of my strongest personality traits is as a protector.  Apparently I am known as a "thinking guard dog".  My foster family thinks this is great!  They know that with the proper training (which they have started with me) I can become not only confident, but comfortable in this role while still being your four-legged family member!  FM believes that a home where my family members will be greeting any guests at the door with me tagging along behind is best.  I cannot be in a home where people that I do not know come and go freely.  Once I have identified a home as being "my property" I am on alert for any dangers.  Just the other day, I was outside with the two little girls who I am staying with and a strange man came up to the fence!  I did not know who this person was, so I charged the fence and let out my most menacing growl.  The man jumped back away from the fence VERY quickly ( I am SO intimidating when I need to be!)  The best thing though...FM was PROUD of me.  Not only did I warn away a potential threat, but as soon as my FM told me to back down...I listened!  She keeps bragging about how smart I am!
I don't want you to think that it's all work with me though...I really like to play too!  Right now my FM thinks that I get a bit rough sometimes so I have to be watched with the kids.  Just ask the littlest one though....she'll tell you how great I am!  I am a "bully bear" for her.  We snuggle and watch TV together.  I do get really excited though when the kids are running. ANOTHER area to work on, but I am getting the idea of being careful with the kids!  The boxers in the house??  They are fast, but I keep up and then I just "bowl" through them like they are pins!  (sigh....ANOTHER area to work on!)  Okay......just remember even though I am big...I am a puppy!  Do you have the patience to train me to be the best?  I can't wait to meet my forever family!

I wanted Bo to write the update, but he is currently laying on my feet and snoring up a storm!  I finally have a dog that I can blame the loud snoring on.
Bo is settling in very nicely with us.  He was seen by the vet on the third and received a clean bill of health.  He was also neutered and is recovering nicely.  He must be kept on leash while outside until he has completely healed (approximately 2 weeks).
Despite his size Bo really is all puppy.  He has that exuberant energy which can make you laugh one moment and sigh the next.  He has an affinity for all "things that he should not have!"  This is a long list, but I want everyone to have ample warning so I will include the top 5:  children's toys, shoes, books, small area rugs and dog beds!  Not only will he chew on the beds, but for reasons only "BO Knows" he must re-arrange them several times a day!  Dog bed locations are constantly being swapped much to the annoyance of the two older boxer kids in the house.
Other expected puppy activity that we are working on incluede potty training- almost complete.  He still has the rare accident if we miss eachother's cues.  Nipping- when Bo is excited he will jump up and try to nip whatever he can.  This is not done in aggression, but in excitement.  This is one area that we are really focusing on stopping.  Jumping- when he really gets going he can jump pretty high.  He is very good about getting down and staying there when told.  He just needs reinforcement to not start!
There are many positives about this boy.  He is very loving, great with my two young daughters- he has even learned to "release" their toys when he is caught by one of them!  He is very intelligent and the perfect companion to snuggle with...if you can deal with snoring!  Bo is truly a diamond in the rough.  With the right training and lots of love, Bo will make a great companion and be a treasured family member for many years.

- I have to be honest and say I was a little concerned about how he would feel about house living. This 1 yr old baby boy lived outside on a chain for the last year. I have to tell ya, the boy seems to like it :) He loves his crate, clearly as a bulldog loves the air conditioning now that summer in upon us.. He is all wiggles with the resident dogs here too.   He and Sadie had a cross word after she growled and barked at him 20 times. Hey, the boy is no push over.. how much can a boy take.   The minute I told them to stop, they did :) He's very friendly with other dogs that are nice to him.
The former owner did spend some time training.. He sits,  will wait to eat, does not jump, gives both paws. He loves squeaky toys and amuses himself well :) He is crate trained and after the big 30 minute outing this morning (he is a Bulldog after all. That's about all the excitement he needs), he grabbed his toy and went back into his crate to nap. He is a sweet gentle soul.. He is a little hand shy at first. but warms up quickly and loves to give kisses.
Please remember he is still a pup. So, he needs to be supervised.
He loves to find things.... He found my flip flops and was disappointed that he could not keep them to chew. He also found my slippers. I thought FINALLY a dog to bring my slippers!! NAWWWW not so much...... They were for him :) lol lol   I was prepared to have to trade him for a treat.( don't want to take such a prize out of a strange dog's mouth) He gave up the footwear right away and enjoyed a treat anyway.
My understanding is that there are only 120 of this Bulldogs in THE USA.
