| UPDATE 5/16/10 - It has now been one year. Ginger and her boxer sister (Lizzy) are best of friends. She remains protective of me but growls less at other people. She is all sound and no bite. We love her and she is aperfect fit to our family. We walk every day which is great exercise for us both. She has put on a bit of weight which we are working to take off. Her dog sister likes to surf the kitchen counter and shares her findings with Ginger. No food agression here.
We could not be happier. UPDATE 11/23/09 - Ginger is doing very well. She is loved by the entire family. She has had one accident in the house but other than that whines for the door. I am very pleased with this because so many people said that small dogs we difficult to house train. I need to give her original owner credit for this training. She is the smartest dog I have have ever cared for and is almost human. I am so please that she has come into our family. Both my children are now away at school and she has been great company for me and my husband. My husband stills wants the boxer - something about boxer kisses that are hard to live without. I continue to review the available dog site for an older female. Some day - the right dog will be pictured there but we are in no rush. UPDATE 8/4/09 - Well three months has gone by quickly. Ginger is so much like a part of the family it seams as if we have had her for years. The weather has been more consistenly nice and we get out around town. I pedel the bike and she sits in the basket an enjoys all the sits of our little tourist town. Continueing to work on her barking. She does it only with me and she is just being protective. I gues she feels the men in our house can take care of themselves. If only I could teach her that she does not need to protect me from the men in our own home. But the barking is less and tolerable. She has an energy burst every eveining about 5PM so that is out doors time to play fetch. She is the sweetist little girl and we are all pleased that this adoption has worked so well for us. UPDATE 7/2/09 - JUlY UPDATE: Ginger and I have finished doggy obediance training and the certificate is in the mail. She is a smart little girl, can sit/stay, down/stay and loves a game of fetch. She will usually "come" on the second attempt to call her - sometimes on the third attempt depends on if I have treates in my pocket. We are now working on "play dead" and hope to work that into a "roll over". She loves to have her belly scratched and the hair on her belly is starting to grow back from her little girl surgery. Ginger is starting to accept the two legged men in our home and the growling has decreased significantly. UPDATE 6/8/09 - Ginger is a Papillon and not the boxer I was searching for on SCBR but she is a sweet addition to our family. She has been to the vets to be fixed, rec. her booster vaccinations and her heart worm medication. Tomorrow is her fourth class in doggie training. She came to us knowing how to sit, sit-stay, and fetch a stick. Needs a bit of work on leash and barking/growling when men enter the room. Day one she stuck her nose in the bee hive and has not done that again (the sting on her nose has healed). She chased the chickens and ducks a few timed - now they chase her when she gets too close. She has gone just about every where with us, likes to ride in both the care and the basket of my bicycle. Quite a site we make going through town. 5/8/09 - Ginger has been adopted! 4/24/09 - We took Miss Ginger in to get spayed today only to find out that she's gone into heat. Tis the season, I guess. She'll have to wait a few more weeks to be ready to go to her new home. Meanwhile, she spent the day with the "big dogs" alternately getting in their faces and running away. She wasn't so sure about one of the big boxers that took a super interest in her, but they quickly became inseparable. She's SUCH a lap dog and completely adores her human! She is the sweetest dog!!! She would be the perfect "purse pup" because she wants to be with her human. I think she's used to riding on her person's lap in the car because as soon as we got in the car, that's where she headed. She just made me laugh the whole day I had her. She would anyone truly lucky to be owned by THIS girl!!! 4/17/09 - This little girl came to us from an owner surrender. The lady who owned him had to take a second job/changed work hours and didn't think it was fair to Ginger. She's going in on the 24th for her spay and shots and then she'll be ready for her new home! She's hoping to find a home who can give her all kinds of love and attention! Is that you? |
