04/25/13 - Unfortunately after spending the last few months with Baxter, we had to make the best decision for him and put him to rest. He is at peace now with no anxieties and stress. RIP Baxter 04/01/13 - Baxter has made huge strides in the past few weeks. Baxter is a sweetheart that needs an alpha human. He is an awesome snuggler and quick learner. We have been going on morning walks with myself and a 10 month old boxer. He is a quick learner on the leash as long as you are an experienced boxer owner. He is learning the "leave it" command when we walk. He tends to be on the anxious side, but has made tremendous strides within my household. He needs a "matter of fact" no nonsense kind of manner. He doesn't do well being "babied". His crate training needs some work still, but has improved immensely. He tends to drool in the crate initially, but then stops. He does need to put on some weight, his anxiety had caused diarrhea that has left him a little skinny. We're working on fattening him up. This handsome man has gone from barely playing at his last home to playing all the time here. He plays with my submissive and overly friendly boxer as well as chewing bones and picking up toys and initiating play which he hadn't done before. He is a sweet snuggler that lies at the end of the bed while I sleep. Looking forward to talking with anyone interested in this special boy. 02/22/13 - Sadly Baxter came back to rescue today to find a new home. His last home was devestated to bring him back but felt his seperation anxiety was not something they could get him over. More updates from his foster home soon. 08/23/12 - Baxter has been doing GREAT! He's only been with us for a month but we feel like it's been forever. He fits right in. Baxter has been able to check out Doggy Camp several times. First time, he had to take a few "time outs" and we were concerned but we kept trying and the second time he went, he was perfect... and has loved every minute of it since. He even did well while boarding there with his furry sister, Chloe. By the looks of it, we think he was the only dog in his previous home because he is a loner, but he enjoys an occasional play time after sissy bugs him enough. After checking out the trainer we originally picked for him, we decided we need to look elsewhere and have found a great place (same place where they go to doggy camp). Once the kids go back to school and the schedule settles, we will begin private lessons, as well as group interaction. Baxter is a great boy and is very friendly once he meets people and other dogs. However, the initial meeting is very scary and concerning. He barks, and lunges and drools... and appears very intimidating and aggressive to people and dogs (but he definitely isn't, and we can trust him completely). We've had to stop taking him for walks at the park until we can get that under control... just to avoid trouble. Bax is continuing to put on weight but not as fast as we would like to see. The vet said he looks good and healthy, so we aren't too concerned and are giving it time. Overall, we feel extremely blessed that Baxter is ours. 07/23/12 - We are so thrilled to have Baxter in our family. He has been home for 3 days now. He is still going through some adjustments but overall, he is doing very well. He definitely loves all the humans he lives with (mom, dad and two brothers 10 and 12). He eats all his meals and loves treats. We are hoping to see his weight increase rapidly. Baxter and our female boxer Chloe are also getting along. Chloe seems to want to play in ways Baxter isn't used to. She brings him all her toys, one by one but he isn't interested. With time, we can tell they will be best buds, though. Baxter is still dealing with separation anxiety. We bought him a Thunder Shirt that he seems to enjoy. He doesn't like being crated, so we are leaving him and Chloe out to roam the house when we are gone and they do VERY well. He isn't destructive in any way and goes outside to "do his business". He is SUCH a good dog! We are starting obedience training next week with both Baxter and Chloe. Looking forward to working with him. He is very eager to please and does all of the commands that he knows (sit, lie down, stay, paw) very well. We are also starting training on the invisible fence, so hopefully he will be able to run free with Chloe in the next few days. He is such a smart boy and is learning very quickly. We love Baxter's head tilt when we ask him a question. His face is so expressive... I just can't help myself but love him and kiss him on that sweet nose. Chloe doesn't bark at all and it's been exciting to see her reaction when Baxter barks at neighbors, or if someone rings the door bell. She has even tried out barking on her own since having lessons with her brother. It's precious to see how they interact with each other. Thank you for everything you have done for Baxter. We are blessed to have him as a member of our family. 07/20/12 - Baxter has been adopted. 07/17/12 - I gave Baxter just over a week to adjust to his new foster home before writing an update. I am happy to report he has adjusted quite well into our home of a 7 year old male boxer and a 4 year old child. AS soon as he entered my home, he ran straight for my boxer( who was in the crate) and just had all nubs wagging and was jumping and whining. He loves other medium to large dogs. He met the neighbors yellow lab and had the same reaction. He loves to tease my older dog and run laps around him, although I don't think Bruno is too happy about this. I did introduce him to a puggle and he wasnt as happy to see him. He didn't growl or anything, but he was not a tail wagging dog and we decided to cut their meeting short. He loves to follow my son and I around the house. He is a people dog. He has made himself at home on the couch or my bed, but will get off when told. He listens well and does know some commands. He has shown some submissive urination when he met my brother and a male friend of mine, but they simply ignored this and kept petting and playing with him. Within 10 minutes they were best buds. His choice seat in the house when he is over is on him. He has shown some signs of nervouseness when I moved a little too quickly for him, but is better today than the first day he came here. He loves to snuggle and will whine and bark at you when he wants something, either water, food, or outside. I have been crating Baxter and he is adjusting well to it. He barks at first, but when I sneak back to the house an hour later to listen for him..he's not barking. He licks the crate, but doesn't try to escape. I have also left him out free with my boxer on some evenings and he has done wonderfully. And today I was a proud momma because I left him out for the afternoon with my boxer and I came home to a unscathed home. After spending this week with Baxter, my feeling is that he is doing really well knowing that I am alpha. He seems to have adjusted to that within the first 24 hours. My thought is he doesn't want to be alpha and needs to have someone to look for as alpha to be in control. During my training with him, I have been very matter of fact with him and he got rewards when he got into the crate and was walked outside quickly and briefly when coming out of the crate. I didn't "congratulate" him for getting out of the crate. This sweet boy needs a family who is willing to provide the alpha structure he needs to succeed as an adult dog. 07/08/12 - I was returned to rescue 06/24/12 - We brought Baxter home a week ago yesterday and he appears to be settling in. He does have some anxiety issues but we are hoping this is just the normal settling in process. Hopefully we will be able to leave him alone by the end of next week. We are also working on his crating issues (it appears that he was crated for long periods of time). Baxter does really well meeting new people and will now sit and wait to be greeted vs jumping and lunging at people. He is still very puppy like in some respects. He has meet most of the neighbors and most of our famly members. We have not tried introductions to other dogs yet as he seems very protective of us when he sees another dog. Baxter also went for a meet and greet at the vet and was a hit there with all the ladies! All and all, Baxter has made good progress this past week and hopefully will continue to improve. He does have a few issues but once we/he work these out he is going to be a great dog. 06/16/12 - I was adopted 06/06/12 - This is Baxters 4th day with us and has shown improvement every day. He has a hard time getting into his crate, but sleeps well and doesn't seem to mind it once he's in it. Of course, he isn't in his crate for too long. Only when adults are out and at night. I think he has a little super dog in him because without a sound, he's found curled up in a corner of a couch. His light footed is to his advantage for now. He is such a good dog. He tells me when he's hungry and when he needs to go out. He gives paw, sits, and even lays down on command. He can stay on command, but only for a moment. He has gotten stronger too. He lifts his leg now when doing #1 and can run 30 yards in a flash. He can stand on his hind legs, bringing his nose over 4 feet; a habit we will work on. I know it's too early to say, but it looks like he has gained weight. We tried a scale today that didn't show much improvement, but I now have a scale to measure the improvement the next time. His bowels are improving, but have not reached the consistency I'd like to see. He is eating 4 times a day and doesn't mind the banana I've snuck in the past few days. Being a mom of young human boys, I'm in the kitchen a lot and he is frequently right behind me until I scoot him out of the way. He's hoping for a tasty crumb of what ever falls to the floor or misses the trashcan. I can see he's full of energy and curiosity that he can't wait to share with a new forever family. 06/03/13 - I breathe a sigh of relief after the first 24 hours. Baxter came to us with some anxiety, itchy, with diarrhea and underweight. After a bath, food, rest, he is now obviously feeling better. Baxter is such handsome fellow. He joins a household of two human adults, two young boys and two female 4 legged friends. He and our K-I'd have adjusted very well to each other. Baxter understands commands to sit, come, and paw. His choice to slumber would be the couch, but has succumb the to the pillows and blanket on the floor. Baxter is easy to love and such a cutie. Though he has a fragile appearance, it hasn't held him back from running in the fenced yard and following his two legged housemates. I'm looking forward to seeing more weight on this tall fellow. |

| Due to my separation anxiety I need a home with another dog, someone home more often (retired, work at home, work opposite shifts) and a heavy duty steel dog crate for any time left home alone. |
