02/12/12 - Max has been adopted.

02/01/12 -
It has taken us a little I  believe that we have helped Max get settled into his foster home. Max seems to be loving it here although he is surrounded by only female boxers and he has learned to just let them rule the roost. He is so funny as he will work really hard to get any one of them to play, but also at the same time, he knows to leave Peaches alone if she is not having a good day. Max loves other dogs and he has such great manners around them. He will do his best to not step on anyone and I have seen him jump over another dog to avoid a collision at a high rate of speed. This boy can run and is enjoying the fenced in backyard.      In Max's previous home, he was diagnosed with esonophilical gastritis and he was put on a veterinary formula food which he does really well on. The first couple of days coming to his foster home were stressful on Max, as it is on any dog, and he developed some "tummy troubles". We stuck with our original game plan to keep him on just his normal food and that as he settled in, he would begin to feel better. Great advice from his owners and it has worked out perfectly for Max. Max made a trip to the vet to get a heartworm test, had an exam and he was given a depo injection to help calm his tummy troubles. It had been almost a whole year since he had one of these injections so he was doing really well at home. He was very good at the vets and of course, all the girls fell in love with Mr. Max. He was nothing but a gentleman and I was very proud of him. The tech that drew his blood for the heartworm test gave him a bandage on his front leg and Max was insisting that she had broken his leg as he couldn't walk with that bandage thing on there. It was all better as soon as I took it off of there.
I do think that Max will need a special home. He can only be fed his dog food and no eating off  the floor from children or babies also keeping his stress level down will help . We have a very treat friendly home but Max is a champ and only gets a couple pieces of his dog food and he is as happy as can be. I hope that you will check back to see how Max is progressing. He is such a beautiful dog and has such a nice personality.

Boxer'In on the Lake would like to introduce you to Maximus. Max is a beautiful, tall brindle and white boy who was an owner surrender into rescue. Max's owners turned him into rescue as they have two small children and found that they didn't have the time that Max needed. We all know how much our boxer babies need lots and lots of attention and time for exercise.   Max spent the last few months with the couples parents as they had more time for him but because of some health issues, it was imposible for them to care for Max. Max was very well taken care of and very much loved. They made an unselfish decision to turn to rescue for help. First, let me tell you that Max does not act like a 6 year old. He loves to run and has made friends with all the girls here. Who wouldn't be happy living with all those girls. Max has been great so far, eating every meal and just fitting in like he has been here forever. Max is very tall and has no problem putting his head on the table but he has good manners and doesn't do that. Don't know if I have ever seen a taller boxer. Also, Max is a talker, entertaining us with his conversations. He is very serious about it. Max is as gentle as he can be, being such a big dog. When he comes up on your lap, you have no problem knowing that he is visiting you. When Max lived with the babies in his family, he developed a very sensitive stomach. We really don't know if the babies made him nervous or if it was all the food that he was able to get at from cleaning up the floor. Hey, someone has to do it!! He is eating a special diet from the vets and has had no problems in the past years since moving in with the parents. That is the reason why we are asking for a home that has no small children and needs to be with older children who could learn not to feed him snacks. We will keep you updated on how he does here. So far, he has been the perfect guest. We are enjoying him very much. Max is a sweetheart and I'm sure the perfect home is out there for this sweet boy. Max loves other dogs so I do believe that he would benefit from having another playful dog in the household. More to come as we get to know this great boy.
