02/13/12 - Well Cassius has been with me a month now.  He has blended right in, all dogs are getting along well.  My husband and I were talking about his forever home and we really think he'd fit best with either a single person, or a couple with no kids, or a home with older teens maybe.  I think the only environment that wouldn't suit him best would be a very active, very busy household.  And that is only because he is such a quiet mellow kind of dude.  When you come home from work he's at the door with a toy in his mouth and full body wags waiting for your attention.  He thrives when you pay attention to him.  He won't bark when you come in but will dodge all around with the toy until he gets his fill of after work pettins.  He loves to go out in the yard and play, or go for a walk, or play at the dog park.  He'll run and play and you'd think he was years youger.  Then you come back inside and he will flop out on your lap or sleep stretched out on the floor like a speedbump, or curl up in your bed.  He has a kind, gentle disposition and the thing he loves most in the world is just being with you.  He would fit perfect with someone who is either home a lot, or can take him to work with them.  He does well when alone but I think it makes him more sad than it does my other dogs. He can actually furrow his brow in a "but..but...but where ya going?" look on his face.  Absolutely precious.  Somebody please come fall as in love with him as I am.

All is going well here and all three dogs are now upstairs together whenever the family is home.  We've taken our time with the intrgretation into our pack and it has paid off.  Any kind of food situation is still a trigger but we avoid that by placing all fur kids downstairs during family meals, and all dogs are fed their dinner separately.  They are all doing well and play wonderfully in the yard.  Cassius has made himself a member of the family and we have all fallen for his milk chocolate eyes and his kind loving spirit.  Yesterday I laid down for a few minutes.  I was laying on my side and all of a sudden up comes Cash, lays down behind me and plops his head over my shouder so we were chin to chin.  I gave him a scratch and when it wasn't easy enough to belt me with his paw for more rubs he came around to the front and pushed my arm up with his nose.  SO very cute and clever!  Yesterday, while in the middle of a race for frisbee rights, they sounded like two horses on a track racing around my backyard.  I love this!  My hope for Cassius is that he finds a calm household but also has someone to take him to a park, or play outside.  He loves to play and has a lot of energy left for a 7 year old, but then likes to come in and snuggle up right next to you.

Cassius has done very well this week.  He has settled in nicely and he and my girl Rain have become good friends.  Hudson appears to be jealous and we are still being cautious.  You would never know that Cassius is seven years old.  He is strong, active, happy and bright eyed.  He has a gentle 'snuggle bug' personality and loves to play frisbie or ball in the yard. He has greeted every person and every pet he has met and is gentle and accepting of all of them.   If you sit down, expect this boxer to want to be on your lap immediately.
Cassius is the easiest foster I have ever had!!!  He is so calm and accepting of all the changes he's been through.  He loves Nyla Bones and rope toys, and bounces around to play.  Oh! and he met the resident guinne pig, gave him a sniff and went on his way.  SUCH a good boy!  I hope someone is thinking about him already, he's amazing!

Cassius' second night went extremely well.  It was a work night so dogs have lights out at 9pm so we can go to bed.  Everyone slept in their crates and I had to wake them all up at 6:30.  Cassius was ready to go outside and later he was gated in the cellar by the wood stove and a big comfy dog bed. Amazing dog!

Cassius arrived at Hudson's Haven around 3pm on Saturday after a few hours in transport. Upon getting out of the car he immediately came up to me, nudged me with his face and gave me a kiss.  First impression:  "Wow. awesome temperment".  He needed some yard time and thoroughly investigated and marked the yard.  Then I showed him his crate and put him in for a little while so he and my dogs could all just smell each other for awhile.  I went upstairs to test his separation anxiety.  He whined and pawed for about a minute, but then settled down. Later we took a good walk, tried some dinner but he wasn't interested which is to be expected on the first day or so.  He's been drinking fine and going to the bathroom reguarly so all is good.
I let Casiuss upstairs today and he checked the whole place out.  He did try to counter surf so he must've done that in his old home. Occaisionally he will jump up on you but it's not in a hyper way, more like he just wants a hug.  I tell him "No Jump" and he immediately sits right down and looks up at me.  If I sit down, he wants to be on my lap.  My daughter is watching TV and he keeps going over and putting his front paws up with her for kisses and hugs.  He would LOVE to be a lapdog.
My daughters have already nicknamed him Cashew, and I just call him Cash.  I think he'd fit in any environment and with other dogs.  My female has accepted him already but my boy Hudson doesn't like any other dogs in his house, so I really just need to alternate.  We will work on getting the boys to be friends nice and slowly.  Cassius doesn't mind Hudson, has no problem with him, it's Hudson that can be the issue, but he's also guarding his home and family.
Because of his size Cassius might not be a good choice for a family with very small children.

Well, that's my 24 hour observation.  I can't wait to get to know this boy more but I bet I won't have him long at all because with this personality someone needs to scoop him up QUICK!  He's a kind, happy lovebug of a boy.  These milk chocolate eyes will melt in your heart!
