09/28/12 - Today is a sad day for all as we made the tough decision to send Buttercup to the bridge today. She had started showing aggression to people when being asked to do normal things and she decided she did not want to. She also had displaced aggression start showing when on leash and near other dogs and would turn on the person holding her leash.

thank you to Lori and her husband Richard for loving her while she was fostered with them and to Jo-anna too for trying so hard too to help Buttercup to be adoptable.  We will miss Buttercup.

Buttercup arrived with us about a week ago here at PW&T. We are very pleased to have her here with us!!  She took a few days to settle in since she has had a few ups and downs lately.  She has not been with any other animals but tries to play with them through the fences, but we are playing it safe with this girl since she is known to have a few issues with housemates! She is SUCH a doll though with people! She loves to kiss and cuddle. She also is very well behaved on leash in her crate and for toe nail trims. She loves to go on long walks, but also likes to just lay around with her people. She is scheduled for a grooming next week and we will see how much she likes the water! She is such a nice girl and is waiting for her perfect home. Won't you add her to your family?!

Hi everybody, Buttercup here to tell you about my VERY exciting day!  I got to ride up with dad to the Vet this afternoon.  WHile I was ther they sprayed some yucky stuff up my nose.  But like always, I was a good little girl and when they were done I kissed that really cute young Vet to let him know I didn't hold a grudge.  He thought I was BEAUTIFUL!   So did the nice ladies that work there.  Then, I rode home with mom, and she took me for a walk around the block.  We passed a couple of other dogs walking, and I didn't mind at all because I had HER!  Then I hung out at home for a little while.  Then dad took me for another ride (I LOVE going for rides!).  And THEN he brought me into this room with a bunch of mostly guys.  And THEY all told me how pretty and well-behaved I was.  (Of course I'm well-behaved, I'm a REAL Lady!)  Then back home, where I got to have my dinner and hang out on the deck with dad until bedtime, when I went back into my comfy crate.
Mom says that I'm going on a sleepover tomorrow.  I'm a little worried, but she said that she'll bring my bed so I guess it will be OK.  But I have to say, I am REALLY READY for my forever home.  I promise that I will love you, and keep you company, and be a good little girl as long as I can have you all to myself!   PLEASE come and get me!

- Well Miss Buttercup has decided she does not want to share her home with other dogs after all.  She recently started fighting with the male foster dogs in her foster home, even one she has lived with for about 6 weeks without issues.  She will be moving to a foster home where she can be easily kept separate from other dogs and is looking for her forever home as an only pet.
Buttercup will not do well going to a big city or condo setting where she has to use dog parks or doggie daycare or be around lots of dogs.  She would be happiest in a more suburban or rural setting where she can be the Princess.

08/17/12 - Buttercup returned to rescue.
Unfortunately Buttercup and the female dog in her new home hated each other and were having nasty fights, so Buttercup is back today to find a new home.  She was fostered with two other boxers and in her original home lived with many big and small dogs without issue, so this may have been a dominance or personality issue between these two dogs.  More updates from her foster home soon.

08/04/12 - Buttercup has been adopted.

I think that Buttercup is the quietest foster that the Riverview has ever had!  She will join the others in barking at someone at the front door, but not a peep out of her when she is playing, and she never initiates any barking.  With each passing day she is more comforatble with herself and her environment.  So while she is still a bit on the timid side, she clearly will learn that any new home will keep her safe.  I do think that she would be happier and adjust more easily to a quieter household.  My dream home for her would be one in which she would be the only "child".  But she also would be a great companion to another dog--or another human child--just not a totally wild and crazy Boxer puppy!

Buttercup is a happy part of my little "pack" here at the Riverview, and gets along great with Taisen (and Diesel when he is here).  SHe is a GREAT watchdog--very alert to the environment, but not a big barker.  She is still a little skittish about loud noises or quick movement toward her--she gets out of that space quickly.  But she is not hand shy or agressive at all.  Buttercup loves the men in my house (what a little flirt she is!).  She likes me just fine, too, but definitely prefers men.  Buttercup has not had a single accident in the house, and learned the doggie door in record time.   SHe was used to free-feeding at her former home, and she needs to be fed in a seperate room so that nobody steals her meals.  She eats slowly and daintily, and they don't!  Buttercup is a beautiful, great little Boxer girl, and she is ready for her forever home.

Buttercup arrived at the Riverview BoxerHostel safely,  She was trembling in the car when she arrived and was hesitant to enter the house.  But once that noisy retractable leash was changed for a regular leash and she was confidently led into the house she followed along.  She happily met the man of the house, and hung out with him on the deck all day (with an occasional trip to the backyard to do her business.)  Buttercup sniffed noses with Taisen through the baby gate, and while she wasn't acting as eager to meet him as he was to meet her, there were no hackles raised, so I am sure that they will be fine soon. Buttercup is timid in these new surroundings and with all the changes she is going through right now, but she is already starting to settle in.

Here is some background info on Buttercup
Buttercup was surrendered to rescue as her owner was going through a divorce and had to move into a place that doesn't allow dogs.  She lived 3 boxers and 4 small Chihuahuas and was good with all of them.  Her owner said Buttercup is dominant when meeting strange large dogs but not with smaller dogs. Once the dominance is worked out she is fine.  She never lived with cats but did injure a stray cat once that came in her yard, so will need a home without cats.
