12/23/11 - Moose continues to be the perfect house guest here at the BoxerHostel.  She has gained all of the weight she needed to, and looks great!  While she shows her age once in a while, she can still keep up with Lexi in their frenetic race-playing in the back yard.  She's great at snoozing on the couch, too!  Moose loves getting attention, so company is welcomed as that means more hands to pet and more bodies to cuddle up with.  Of course, the welcoming is after she tries to convince everyone that she is ferociously protecting the household.  She's a great watchdog, just like a Boxer should be!  Moosey-goosey is welcome to stay here as long as she needs to, but like the little eight year old who visited last weekend said, "She's not too old for me!"

11/15/11 -
Moose has decided that she can share her space with Lexi--yeah!  They even ran around the yard together a bit today.  Lexi is WAY faster than Moose.  Of course, Lexi is also way younger than Moose!
Moose finished her de-worming treatment, so now she can gain some needed weight and get healthier.

11/11/11 -
We finally were able to get Moose, and a stool sample, to our Vet today.  Good new first--she is almost back up to her pre-adoption weight of 55 pounds! She is doing very well for her age--her heart and lungs sound great, and her eyes and ears look good.  She does have two skin tags, and her teeth aren't great, but for twelve...she's fine.
Bad news--she has whip worms and round worms, so will be on a three-day series of Panacur (to cure that problem!)  Luckily for my yard, we are expecting freezing weather soon, so the whipworm eggs already laid in my yard should be killed, as they are very contagious.
Moose is a people love-bug--I call her my "Moosey-goosey-Lucy"  and she just wiggles!  As Lexi just arrived, we'll see how she does with another female dog in the house.  RIght now they're seperated by baby gates, and Moose is not too happy to be sharing her space.  I bet in a few days they'll be just fine.

10/23/11 -
Moose has arrived at the Riverview Boxer-Hostel.  So far she's been the well-behaved "dame d'un certain age" I expected her to be.  She smelled every inch of the back yard, peed and pooped proliferously, came up the deck stairs and investigated every inch of the house.  She even figured out the doggie door!
Moose, despite her name, is rather petite.  A bit underweight, and she reportedly has a voracious appetite.  She chowed down one bowl of kibble here already, and is looking around as if dinner should be arriving any minute!
Moose is a return to rescue. Despite having a great relationship with her Terrier brother 99 per cent of the time, two fights, and one dead chicken later she is back on the available page.  Since she's our "only" at this time, I can't comment on how she might meet a new dog, but when I picked her up in Topsham she and her 'brother' were doing just fine together--even when a treat fell right in between them!

10/23/11 - Moose has returned to rescue.

07/21/11 - Moose has been adopted.

07/01/11 -
Moose came into foster one week ago.  She has settled into our home like she has been here all along.  She is a fun, loving and gentle boxer. When she sees her leash she does the boxer dance.  She gets real excited to go for a walk or a ride.  Because of her arthritis she can't walk far, but she sure tries.  I thought we were going to have to carry her back, but she made it.  Yesterday I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride and she took off out the door and down the road.  She was so excited she forgot to get in the car.  I picked her up hitchhiking about 50 feet down the road, she hopped in the car and away we went.  We went down to the lake and she went swimming, she loves the water.  She gets along with my boxer Daisy and our three cats. She minds good, sits and lays down and makes a good guard dog.  She barks every time Daisy barks and Daisy barks every time Moose barks, who ever barks first has to have the last bark. She is protective of her food but she is warming up fast.  She is completely house broken but loves to lay on my couch when I'm not looking.  I have been trying to get her to play with toys but she has no interest in them.  She will do almost anything for a treat.  She eats and drinks like a moose, I guess that is how she got her name.
