01/14/12 - Hi guys--Lexi here.  Mom has been so busy that I knew I'd better jump in and help her out by writing a little about myself and how things are going here at the Riverview.  FIrst of alll, let me say that this is a great house--but I'm still waiting for MY home to come along.  Moose is a great big sister, and great to cuddle with, but no fun to play with! SO in MY home I'd love a fur sister or brother that loves to cuddle and to play.  A skin sibling would be even more fantastic.  But the other day when my skin brother sat down on the couch with me, he startled me and woke me up and I snapped at him because I was scared--until I realized it was him and I was OK.  So I'm worried that I could hurt a little person by mistake even though I would love them so much.  So I think I only want one who is old enough to always remember that since I can't hear anything I can get startled and scared if I don't see you or feel vibrations that wake me up.
I also want everyone to know that when I first came here I was afraid that Moose would try to steal my food.  So I would growl at her if she came too close to it.  Now I know that there is always enough food for both of us, so I don't growl anymore.  (Unless she tries to get too close to my marrow bone!)
Mom got me a nice warn jacket to wear when I go out, because it is cold (and snowy) here in MAine.  And I HATE the cold!  So I love wearing my jacket.  But I still want to come back inside as soon as I am done with you-know-what out there.  ANd then I LOVE lying right next to the woodstove to warm back up.  SO...if you have the kind of home that I would love for my very own, I'm ready and waiting!  Bye!

Lexi had an exciting weekend--she LOVES children, so having one of her 'own' for an evening put her into seventh heaven!  The eight year old who was visiting was also in seventh heaven--he was delighted that he had a 'Boxer who loved him' and wanted to go home and convince his dad that they should adopt Lexi ASAP. ( Even if dad doesn't think that's a good idea, SCBR has a young Boxer lover who is already committed to the idea of adoption instead of purchase--YEAH!)   Lexi was also very relaxed about her food and sharing--maybe since here there is always food available.  While I still supervise special treats like marrow bones, regular dogfood is just left available in two bowls in two different areas of the kitchen.  Sometimes Lexi decides she wants to sleep in the living room, and then I notice how cold my bed is.  Boxers put off a lot of heat.  She especially does since her fur is so thin.  SO...she has a new coat for the winter!  Red plaid flannel on one side, weatherproof fabric on the other--so she can stay dry and warm.  I thought it might take a little getting used to, but she loved it instantly.

Lucky Lexi came with me on a home visit to NH.  They fell in love with her (with good reason!) and she with them.  She revelled in all the attention she was getting--four people for just her--she was in seventh heaven!  They would have adopted her that minute (if that were allowed), except that they recognized that with her deafness, she needs some one home more than his work schedule allowed. So, as happy as she is here at the BoxerHostel, she is waiting for her family to come along.  Is it you?

Lexi has settled in nicely, and she and Moose have decided that they can co-habitate peacefully.  (Lexi was wondering why it was taking Moose so LONG to decide!)  I also discovered that not only is Lexi a bed-dog, but she likes to sleep under the covers!  She'll wiggle her head untli she has an opening and then wiggle her whole body under the covers.  She is quite the cuddler.  I can so imagine her settled for the night into the bed of her best buddy--probably a pre-teen--and loving every minute of it.  I do think Lexi would love to be part of a family, but she would also be fine with a single person or a couple.  Lexi does bark when she is seperated from her people, so an apartment or Condo might not be suitable.  She settles down eventually, and isn't destructive. We think she's wonderful, and we bet you will too!

Lexi has arrived at the Riverview BoxerHostel.  She travelled wonderfully for the short trip from NH to Maine, and did her business like a good girl in the yard.  She is all wiggles through the baby gate at Moose, but Moose is having none of it yet!  Lexi indicated that she was ready for a meal, so she had a small 'late lunch'.  Then she was crated while I took Moose to the Vet.  She wasn't too happy to be crated, and did some whining and barking.  When I arrived back home she was comfortably and quietly resting in the crate, so I'm guessing she settled down pretty quickly (since I didn't fall for her "Please let me out of this horrible place" routine!)  So far she's a doll, and I can tell we're going to love every minute with her until she gets snatched up by some lucky family!

Lexi just came from the shelter where everyone loved her. She was surrendered because the owner was moving. She is quite social and loves everyone. Being deaf doesn't seem to be an issue at all. She is very well adjusted. She sat in the back seat and never moved the whole way home. She has lost some weight at the shelter, but we will take care of that. I will do a full update when I get to know her better.
