02/03/12 - China has been adopted.

UPDATE 02/04/12 -
Hi, it's me China!!  I had a busy day today and just wanted to tell you about it.  I was very good during the night, my dad came into check in on me and I did a wiggle of the nub for him and mom was happy.  This morning, he got me a little nervous because he was pointing to my eye and his finger I felt got a little too close so I growled and snapped a little.  He really wasn't upset he understands that I have to get used to him.  I'm in love with my mom though, I follow her everywhere and when she goes out I can't wait til she comes back.
I ate very good last night and this morning as well.  My dad wants to give me treats but mom keeps telling him I can't have certain things and he just doesn't get it.  I'm willing to try them and take cookies from him but that's all I get to try, mom keeps yelling at him so no other treats for me.
I went for a walk around the neighborhood and the first person I met was the mailman!  Mom explained to me that he just lost his dog like she did and got another baby a few weeks ago.  We were about 5 feet apart and I kept smelling around me as him and mom were talking.  He kept calling my name and I ignored him - he was telling me how pretty I was.  Then he called my name and put his hand down for me to sniff and I gave him a little grrrr.....not a very loud one but I wanted him to know to be careful.  Mom was a little upset but proud of me because I let her talk to the mailman without really being bad.
So we continued our walk and I saw this dog across the street....I started pulling and growling and mom wasn't happy.  Of course, down the block there was another dog in a fenced yard and I got a little upset when I saw him as well....I really like being out by myself with no others around.  Oh wait, I almost forgot to tell you, mom met another friend who was a male and I was better when she stopped to talk to him.  He really totally ignored me and I was fine with that.  He did tell mom how beautiful I was.  When mom cautioned him, he didn't come as close as Guy the mailman did but to me I still kept watch.  After that we finished our walk with no other problems, oh wait I almost forgot.....coming up my block, I saw a lady wheeling a carriage and I kept pulling mom towards them....she doesn't know why and well they were crossing the street and I lost sight of them....then I saw me steps and went right up them and into my yard.  I got some cookies after my walk and then took a nice long nap.
My dad keeps trying to make friends with me and every time he comes close, I wiggle my nub.  He keeps telling me that I'm going to love him as much as I love mom but I really don't know.  He's willing to let it take as long as it has to.  Mom went out and got me another two collars because she didn't like the first one she bought for me.  The second one she bought was too big and the last one was just right.....I'm sending you a picture of me with me new collar.  Mom says I'm beautiful and she loves me.  I'm happy I found my home and even happier that my foster mom loved me enough to keep me until my family came along.
Well, I'm getting tired of writing and mom wants to send out another e-mail about some food she found so I'm going back to my bed.
I'll keep you updated about my adventures!
Love,
China

2/4/12 - China has been adopted!

01/18/12 -
I though I would do my own update and give my foster mom a break. She works alot of hours, and I'm such a good girl, I'll help her out.   Well, I'm here to say I have conquered one of my fears that I brought into foster care with me.  I now go down all the stairs into the basement without any hesitation.  My FM sat on the stairs for quite a while last week trying to reason with me, but I just layed on the landing looking at her.  She kept tugging at my leash, and finally she tugged and I stood and pretty soon I was downstairs with her.  Honestly though, that is the only way she goes in and out in the Winter, so if I want to go for rides with her, I had to be brave and get it done.  She was so proud of me, and I'm happy I get to go almost everywhere with her.  She had a sitter come in last week and I was a little scared and kind of hid in the bedroom until I heard my food bowl being rattled out in the kitchen.  I figured she couldn't be all bad, and she wasn't.  I got to eat and she went outside with me and we had fun.  I am still afraid of men because of bad experiences in the past, but after conquering the staircase, there is no stopping me now......I am woman hear me bark!  The good weather will be coming and I know you need a new best friend to start the season, so look no further, here I am!

11/19/11 -
My house is split entry. China waits at the top of the stairs for me to greet her...all the time she is wiggling and bowing and all excited. She's so cute!   When she come inside, she just waits for me to see her-she never scratches at the door.. Sometimes she lays on a step (I don't know how she fits), or sometimes she is at the bottom of the stairs sniffing around until she sees me at the door. She is very patient.
China sleeps in her own bed in my room at night. In the morning, I hear her get up and shake.  Then I hear her kind of snorting at the side of my bed. She has her head on the  bed.  She has one of my socks in the very tip of her mouth.  When I see her, she is all wiggles and gives me the sock.  I think that means "Oh boy, it's time to get up".  I let her out and put her food down.  Then I can go back to bed and she will eat her breakfast and come in and lay down in her bed.  Very easy dog to have around. She is just so sweet.
She is always so happy.  Always wants to meet everyone, but gets nervous when she sees a man's hand coming down to pat her. We go slow with men, but it doesn't take long at all for China to be comfortable with everyone. A couple of treats don't hurt either.

China continues to do well. She is a great companion and is well behaved when left alone during working hours. She is quite shy when meeting new people. You have to take it slow with her. When she wiggles, then she is ready for all the attention you can give her. She doesn't feel comfortable if you get too close and crowd her, which is not unusual.  She will sit up and give you both paws at once, or just give kisses, whichever you prefer! She is the queen of the back seat when we go out. Very content to check out things around her. She doesn't like to go down the stairs to the cellar. So I have been taking her thru the garage and up the stairs. She is OK with that, so she is slowly getting more comfortable going down also. She is such a nice dog to have around. Snatch her up before someone else does!

09/07/11 -
I can't say enough nice things about my China doll. She is a very easy dog to have around.
She is always laying somewhere close by when I am home. When I pull the shower curtain open, there she is, lying right on the bath mat waiting patiently for me to be done! She is great through the night, and she doesn't snore!. She is all wiggles when she sees I am awake. I have not crated her for some time now. She just doesn't need it. She has no separation issues. If I am going out to work, I pick up the water bowl. She never has accidents in the house, but I notice that she goes for a drink every so often, so I don't want her to have a problem.  If she is barking at someone she sees, I speak to her and she stops barking. She doesn't have that "I want to tear you apart" bark. She just barks to say she sees you or maybe it's "come pat me please!" She is a pleasure to have around. I do agree that she needs to be an only dog. That is when she is her happiest.  She is a sweetheart and needs to have her forever family. Please consider making China a part of your family. It will be a win win situation.

08/12/11 -
Well all the time we gave Miss China (3 weeks) to relax and settle into my home, has paid off to a degree.  She has spent the afternoon outside in the yard with my 2 male boxers and we have a new 6 month old female puppy visiting for a few days, and China wanted so badly to meet her that I let her out in the yard to see how she'd do....I am so impressed with this girl.  She played with the puppy, ran around the yard with her, did little body slams and play bows and just had a great time. However, when the excitement level was raised because someone walked by with their ill-behaved dogs on leashes she became "fence protective" and had a very loud disagreement with my older male boxer.  Although China can be around other dogs and walk with other dogs, I think she would be happier as an only dog.
I often can't stress enough to adopting homes how important it is to read body language as well as temperament of a dog.  Taking intro's slowly with China gave her the time and confidence to get used to having 3 other dogs in the household, and to know that they wouldn't crowd or harass her.
China is truly a treasure to have around.  Not only is she a doll to walk on the leash around the neighborhood, but she listens very well off leash in the yard, comes when called, sits and lays down on command (although laying down takes a little longer than sit), she also stops on a dime when told, and is just a very sweet girl.  She still is not fond of her crate and will "chirp" which is the only thing I can say to describe the sound she makes, but she will go in on command and is "slowly" getting used to it.

Miss China arrived back to her foster home after her spay and she was the perfect patient while she was gone.  The techs as well as the vets loved her, she was friendly with all and even gave her doctor a little kiss before leaving.  All agreed that who ever adopts this girl will be getting an awesome dog.
China has dissolvable sutures and she is heartworm negative, so she is now ready for her very special home who is ready to love her as much as she will love you back.  Beside her loving personality you will also love how soft and silky her coat is.  So who is going to be her lucky family?

07/24/11 -
China has been here for 4 days, and was nervous the first day because she had a lot going on. Besides coming to a new foster home, going to the vets for updating of shots, long car rides, a bath, and 4 other dogs wanting to greet her when she arrived, she has handled this all pretty well.  She is still seperate from my own dogs with baby gates, but she can see them and smell them and has relaxed more each day with their company.  I honestly think she would be happy as an only dog, but with very dog wise people, she could be okay with a submissive dog.  She was in a temporary home prior to coming to me who had horses, cats and chickens and she did fine with that.
There was some concern with how China would be with men, she showed some protective signs in the other temporary home prior to coming into rescue.  I've seen no indication that she is aggressive with anyone.  She's met men on walks and at the vets office and was fine, she has seen strollers and wagons with people heading to the lake, andshe was curious but definitely comfortable.  She loves to go for walks and is a doll on leash.  As soon as she feels a little pressure on the collar she slows right down making her a true pleasure to walk.  Knowing commands such as sit, lay down, come and paw are also nice pluses to having her company.   China will be spayed tomorrow, so more to come when she returns from her hospital stay.

- China has arrived into rescue thanks to a local shelter who thought she would be better off finding a new home thru rescue.  Today she went to our vet and behaved very well while the vet gave her shots and drew bloor for her heartworm test.  She never even flinched! What a great girl!  He gave China a very thorough exam and she stood like a rock and never moved, she will need to be spayed but she is up to date on all her shots now .  She sits when told and will immediately try to shake paws with you.  China has met my dogs thru the baby gates, and is a little intimidated by them so we will take it very slow with her.   More as we get to know this little lady, but I'm confident she will do well in foster care.
