10/23/11 - Sparky continues to do well.  He has been with me for two months now and I'm beginning to realize how quickly DM progresses.  In the last few weeks Sparks has become more wobbly, his legs kick out to the sides or get tangled in each other more often and he falls a bit more.  None of this seems to bother him at all and he continues to be happy.  I've had a couple/few instances in the last week where he has fallen back and sat in his own poo while going to the bathroom.  I've tried a couple times to give him support with a sling but he won't go at all if there is anything under his belly, so I try to be right next to him and support him when he has to go but that doesn't work well either.  I think he thinks that's his private time so when I come too close he stops and tries to move and ends up stepping in it.  So for now I keep an eye on him and if I have to wash fur bum when he's done, that's what I do, I don't mind.  I do wonder though, how it's going to go as things progress further.  If he won't let me hold him upright, and he won't potty with a sling around his belly, it's going to be rough.  We'll see, spirits are good at this point.
Another thing we're doing now is holding his food dish for him when he eats.  He's a real tall boy so when he first came, I was putting his food dish up on a low shelf so he didn't have to bend so far.  My two also both eat on elevated dishes rather than the bowl on the floor.  I noticed he didn't seem to care for that as he had probably never experienced it.  If he eats from floor level he ends up kneeling on the floor, so I sit with him at breakfast and dinner and hold his dish for him so he can get all the yummies without the bowl sliding away from him.  I don't mind doing that at all as I call it our "chat time".  I hold the dish and talk to him, he eats well then burps in my face!  Compliments to the chef I guess.

When Sparkles first came to me he was the quietest Boxer I have ever (not) heard.  Well...my two residents have taught him well!  From my office, his favorite room, he has a good view of the front yard and walkway.  Any time he sees someone walking up to the front door he's now the first to give a woof which gets my two going strong.  When all three are in the basement behind the babygate at the stairs, people come in and look down and there's all three of them standing together barking up a storm with nubs-a-waggin. It's a really cool picture.
So long story short, he is doing well but becoming more weak.  I enjoy helping him and am very glad he's here.  He's a good boy.

- So The Sparkinator is doing great, feeling good right now and happy as a clam.  Oh boy does he love football Sunday in our house.  After watching our Patriots win yesterday, and because Sparks can't come upstairs, he was treated to some leftovers.  Meatballs, pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, yum yum yum!  When my vet told me he prescribed spoiling him rotten, that's what I know how to do!
We play in the yard on sunny days, Sparky walks the yard, sniffs all there is to sniff and even tries to run off with the resident's frisbee! He's met all the local neighbor dogs who go by on walks or come to visit, and anyone that comes by for a visit comes right downstairs to meet Sir Sparks-a-lot.  He gets tons of attention and love from everyone.  And he gives it right back. Right now he's all snuggled in his blankets in front of my desk, loving the quiet light and a good stuffed Kong.
I've attached a couple pictures taken just now, he's such a good boy!

Sparky is doing well, he is definitely a member of the family now.  Last weekand and the one warm sunny day we had this week we all went out in the yard to play ball and fisbee.  Sparky just LOVES being outside running with the other dogs.  He does still run too!  He uses his back legs together to bound around, it's adorable because you can just see the sheer happiness on his face.  My residents fly around him at five times the speed but Sparky will run in little bursts with me and then we fall over and do belly rubs and laugh and play.  I love this boy.

What can I say about Sparky?  He is very handsome, has a funny personality, is charming when he wants something, looks deep into my eyes when he's serious, he can be a goofball, yet is cuddly and attentive.  Heck if I wasn't married he'd be a great catch!

These are the Sparky Journals.  We will keep you updated on all his antics and endeavors and hopefully you will see some of the wonderful boy I get to share my home with.  Sparky has already incurred new nicknames.  "Spark-attack", "Firework", "Sparkles", "Wipe Out" and "Sir Sparks-a-lot" to name a few.  This boy brings us fun and humor EVERY day.

Sparky is an owner surrender because he was spending way too many hours alone.  It has been determined through pictures and video that Sparky has DM.  I can not put into words how sweet, kind and gentle this big boy is.  He's been here a week, has adjusted well, my two resident dogs have taken to him as well and he is an absolute pleasure to have in the house.

Although Sparky cannot climb stairs and has trouble walking, we have given him his own apartment in my finished basement.  My office is downstairs, the family is always in and out the basement doors and the residents sleep down there at night as well, so he has plenty of company day and night.  He plays (hangs out) in the yard with my dogs and has likes the room he has to move around.  Just today we were outside and Sparky was trying to chase a leopard frog across the yard.  He's playful and spirited and doesn't let his wobbly legs hold him back from getting places.
