| UPDATE 5/30/11 - Kane is great. He and Bailey continue to get along great and he loves it when Jake visits. Kane is especially loving the fact that he is a New England sports fan, go Bruins!!! UPDATE 4/26/11 - WOW, one month today! Hard to believe this big ole boy has only been with us for a month. He has settled in like he has been a member of the Hart clan for years. Kane and Bailey continue to develop their relationship. They certainly amuse each other inside and out. Kane went on his first hike last weekend (Mt Major); he did great, slept all the way home. He will tackle Mt Chocorua, in the White Mountains, with us on Friday. Kane is in week 5 of 6 of obedience class and is doing great. Showing everyone he is very smart! We have taken Kane on a four mile trail loop through the woods out back several times; off leash and doing great the past few times. He has earned a few nicknames, Mr Cuddles, Mr Wiggles and Mr Stinky are a few. He loves to ride especially with Bailey. He loves to use Bailey's head as a head rest. I think Bailey really likes it too. Sue and I love coming home; we get greeted with this really funny howl by Kane. He only does it when he is really e xcited. Kane has found a great home and has quickly become a big part of our family. UPDATE 4/1/11 - Kane is quite the dog. We picked him up in NY last Saturday morning, he hopped in the car and road for eight hours with complete strangers. He was amazing, very calm, curious and full of kisses!! We were prepared for the worst (the thought of poor Kane in a car for eight house) and got the best; laying down for most of the ride. Kane arrived at his new home Saturday night and immediately began to settle in. Five minutes of whining in his new crate and asleep for the night. Sunday morning began with a two mile walk, just Kane and I (Steve). Upon returning to the house Kane was met by what would soon be his new girl, Bailey (a sweet brindle boxer). Kane and Bailey immediately had a connection; she kinda looks like an old girl friend of his. Then off for another two miler to bond with Bailey. By mid day they were like old friends. Later that afternoon, Kane had is first training in his new yard with an underground fence, he is a quick learner!! Kane met J ake (male boxer) later Sunday afternoon. He and Jake are now very good buds it took them a little longer and a few extra walks to bond. We walk every morning and night. Kane is now done with yard training and is enjoying his new yard off leach. He loves running with Jake and Bailey. With all of this exercise, eating has not been any problem. At night he is a real couch potato and is real cuddley. Kane had his first vet visit yesterday; once again he was great with all of the folks at the vets and in super health. We love him to death and feel like he has been part of the family for years!! He seems to be very comfortable in his new home for life; every day is filled with kisses from Kane. We can’t thank you (SCBR) enough for bringing Kane to us. Our dealings with everyone in your organization has been nothing short of terrific. 03/26/11 - I just got adopted!! 03/21/11 - Kane has been here a little over a week. He has adjusted amazing well. It's like he has always been part of the family, and I think, in part, that is due to my 2 dogs. I'm sure he would prefer another dog or 2 in his forever home. I had a house full of people (adults and kids) yesterday and he did great. All wiggles and kisses. He loves to run in fenced yard. He almost gallops or prances and he just goes and goes. He chases the ball for fetch but doesn't bring it back. I'm sure he just wants me to exercise too. What a thoughtful dog! I've discovered he is a cuddler too. At night time, before he goes to bed for the night, he likes to cuddle with me. Sits right next to me with his head on my lap for some scratches. He also puts his head on my lap when I'm eating at the table. His tail is going like crazy and I think he is waiting for me to drop some food. It's hilarious! He is learning stay. He almost has it and then we will work on down. I'm hoping the weather gets nice soon so I can take him on a walk and see how he does. He also has found his voice. He barks warnings for people coming to the house or neighbors across the street. I tell him "thank you" for the warning and he stops. He is a super sweet dog! I couldn't ask for a better guest! 03/16/11- Here is some more info on why Kane came into rescue: He was surrendered by his family due to they felt they had too many pets. He lived with 4 other dogs and was said to be good with them. He also was used to kids as they had grandkids from ages 2-14 years old that visited often. Kane's owner did rehome him themselves at one point to a family without another dog. That home loved Kane but he constantly cried and whined for days and was always looking for another dog. After 5 days or so they returned him to the owner. The owner also said Kane will whine/cry in the car if he is not with another dog. For this reason we are going to look for a home with another dog so he has dog companionship too. 03/15/11 - Kane McBoxer here! I'm feeling the "Luck O' the Irish" and I'm looking for my four leaf clover in the yard. I know my "furever" home is out there! I'm settling in nicely in my foster home. There are 2 nice dogs here and I get to play with them everyday in the fenced yard. We all get along great. I like the female boxer. I think she is my new girl friend and give her lots of kisses. I've seen the cats through the gates and I sniff them and my tail wiggles. I'm not sure how I would react if I got to meet them without the gate though. Everyone I meet says my pictures don't do me justice. I'm very handsome with my chestnut color fawn fur, my white face with my black eye, and my muscular body. I met some nice skin kids too. They were older (16 and 11) and I just loved them and wanted to give them kisses. My tail goes non-stop. I don't countersurf either. I like to sniff the people food but I don't jump on the counters. I also make boxer bubbles when I'm eating my own food. FM laughs at that. She thinks it's cute. No accidents either, in the house or my crate. I'm just a good dog, if I do say so myself! 03/13/11 - Kane arrived in Western NY yesterday, after a 6 hour car ride. He reportedly did very well. He got a tour of the yard and house with the resident dogs crated. Met the dogs through gates and crates last night. All wiggles and kisses. Taking the introductions slow, we did a meet and greet outside with resident dogs, one at a time. Lots of sniffing and more wiggles. Then a short walk around the yard, with each of the dogs. He walks great on the leash. He knows sit and takes treats very gently. Crates well. So far, he is a great dog! More updates to follow as we get to know this sweet, cute dog. |
