MEET:

TYSON
Back to Available Dogs
Return to SCBR Home
2/6/10 - Tyson is doing very well here and has fit in and still waiting for his forever home to come along.  He does not seem to be so stubborn as he has learned how to respect me more.  I don't let him on the couch or bed and he is crated when I am not home, to help keep his dominant personality with adults in-check.  He is great in his crate and goes in easily with a treat.  He loves to be petted and have his ears rubbed, then he shows off his cute smile.  He can be a finicky eater at times, so I am trying to get the weight on him by adding yummy things to his dry food.  Sometimes it works.  He is great with my dogs and cats, though he doesn't seem interested in playing with the dogs.  He just seems happy to hang out and be with someone.  It was so funny the other day when on a tv show I was watching the doorbell rang many times, he just woofed & barked like he was going to be my "big protector"!  I had never heard him make a peep before! LOL  He would be great as an only dog or with another dog and happy to be with anyone.

12/23/09
- Saturday a very sad owner surrendered Tyson back to rescue after 10 months.  They surrendered him as they had a couple of instances of him snapping at both the Advanced Obedience Class trainer and themselves when walking him that concerned them.   During these instances Tyson was over-stimulated and someone was trying to get him to heal.   They have a new baby on the way now too and just worry they cannot handle Tyson's needs.  They loved him & said he was wonderful with their young kids.
Tyson is a super cute boy and does that "snaggle tooth" smile that just cracks me up (you know, the Billy Idol/Elvis lip, for those of us old enough to know one or the other!-LOL).  He rode around with me for a few hours while I did errands and we got to know each other.  I did notice pretty quickly that Tyson has a BIG stubborn streak in him.   Even with yummy treats (umm-french fries!) & lots of drool pooling, he would only "sit" 2 times for me in a 20 minute time period of trying to get him to do so & reward him with treats.  So, Mister Stubborn only got 2 fries! :)  I can tell he is just a more dominant boy and pushing his limits with people.  He is going to need someone who is a strong pack leader type and will not let Tyson get away with things.  NILIF (Nothing in Life is Free) training (meaning he does something for any reward or feeding time, etc) is the way to go with this boy and I think he will do perfectly fine in his new home.   We also will waive the Obedience Training class requirements with him since it seems to be too much for him and not really what he needs at this point.  Are you the one for this boy?

UPDATE 7/1/09 - Tyson has completed his obedience training and he was at the head of the class!  Our instructor mentioned on "Graduation" night that Tyson was 1 of the best improved.  He now does much better on the leash.  We are still learning not to jump up but he does get really excited.
This is his first summer with us so we are really enjoying playing outside on nice days.  He seems to get very sleepy from being outside all day.
His fondness for dirty diapers continues!  And he still doesn't like to share his favorite spot on the couch with anyone!

UPDATE 3/27/09 - Tyson continues to make himself at home!  He loves being outside with the family whether we're going for walks or playing in the backyard.  He has mastered the rock wall on the swing set.
He has even learned to hang out around the highchair while our 1 year old son feeds him over the side.  And he always helps clean up our 2 year old after she's done eating.  Needless to say Tyson likes having small kids around.
Tyson begins obedeince training soon.  We're anxious to see how it helps him with stay and how to walk on the leash better.  Whenever we take him to the pet store everyone always comments on how strong and fit he is.
I have learned the hard way that we need make sure the cupboard where Tyson's treats are kept is securely shut.  If it is open, even the slightest bit, he will get the door open and help himself!

UPDATE 3/2/09 - Tyson is adjusting very well in his new home.  He loves going out for daily walks around the neighborhood and he loves playing on the kids swing set outside.  He loves to play with anyone who comes through the door and he thinks al of the company is there to see him.  He has started to become our lap dog and within the first few days he had already claimed his spot on the couch!
Our 2 year old daughter loves to stand in front of Tyson and when he kisses her she says "Thank you very much".  Although she does also rat him out when he jumps up on her bed or when he jumps up on the counter for food.  I guess it's their sibling rivalry. Tyson loves to go for trips to PetCo and to the vet because he loves to socialize with all of the other dogs there.  We just have to make sure we set aside enough time for him to make friends with everyone there.  Within the first week we did take Tyson to be groomed and to a vet visit.  Everyone just loves him and how sweet he is.  Of course, he just eats up the attention. The lady that groomed him said he loved getting his teeth cleaned!  The vet said he is a bit skinny but not worried about him.  She said if he gained a couple more pounds it wouldn't be a bad thing but that he is healthy the way he is.  We haven't started obedience training but will be within the next couple of weeks.  For now we look forward to playing and having more fun as a family.

2/20/09 - Tyson has been adopted!

2/11/09 -  Due to the upcoming arrival of a new baby, Tyson has been surrendered back to SCBR
after being adopted in 2007. Tyson loves my kids and just wants to curl up in their laps! He's super
sweet and gets so excited and wiggly whenever someone comes thru the door! He's great with other dogs and cats, and loves to go for walks. He would love an active family that has kids so he can shower them with kisses!!! He knows sit, shake, lay down, and almost roll over! hes willing to learn and just wants to please you! Could you be the forever family Tyson deserves???

UPDATE 10/10/07 - I was very fortunate to pick up Tyson for adoption on Sunday.  I must be the
luckiest person on earth, because Tyson is WONDERFUL!  Tyson is completely healthy, great with every single dog, cat, or person he meets, extremely affectionate and sweet--very well trained in every way--on the leash, with his basic commands, etc.
Tyson had a great first few days--we went for a 3 mile walk each day, had a doggie-play date with his new canine friend, Ali, played with some children in the neighborhood, gone to the dog-park for some great running, and Tyson was able to spend a lot of time relazing on his dog bed and his favorite p ace--the couch. I am extremely lucky in that Tyson is the only dog I've ever had in the house (my own or foster) that doesn't sleep in my bed--he sleeps on his own dog bed or on the couch, so needless to say, I've been getting excellent nights sleep so far! Tyson is having a great time, and is adjusting well--I think that I'm more anxious than he is, because I so want to make sure that Tyson has the best life possible. I've been leaving Tyson out of his crate when I've been gone--1 hour the first day, 1 hour the next day, 3 hours twice yesterday, and back to work today with Tyson having my friends come over and let him out and visit while I'm away. I am looking forward to my life with Tyson, and I'm certainly very, very blessed in that he must have come from a great home initially.  He's just wonderful!

10/7/07 - Tyson has been adopted!

10/6/07 - Hey Everyone, Our first foster dog will be leaving us tomorrow 10/07/07 with a gal named Laura. We picked him up just a week ago today and have enjoyed him very much! He has been a very good boy (most of the time!)

10/3/07 - Hey everyone Tyson lifted his leg for the first time the other day! He's still pulling slightly when he sees something he likes. We let him run on the beach and he came right back when we called as well as in the dog park. We gave him a bath, he loved that and lapped up the water happily. He has barked and howled it is so cute anyway thats it for now.

9/29/07 - Hey guys he's doing great and is such a sweetie pie!!!lol We walked him and he barley pulled and we found out that he can jump at least 4 feet or so as he jumped up on a wall during our mile walk The only time he would pull a little is if he saw someone to make friends with or a squirrel. He's a little nervous, he follows us around every where, he's great! People commented on him and we told them all about the rescue so we know he will go quick. He is so friendly and smart he knows how to sit, shak he wants to lol), and lay down. He is a very good kisser!
