2/13/10 - Shadow here, sorry its been so long since I have written. I have been sleeping and staying warm. About a month ago, foster Mom brought home this little yappy dappy dog named Alice. One paw down- I could crush her...lol. She's ok to be here, but I am jealous. I want the attention, not her! I was here first, ya know! So I go get her toys and bring them to Foster mom. She thinks its funny. Alice doesn't!!! I have decided maybe I should play with this thing. I bark at her, she hides under the chair, and I bark. She tries to come out, and I jump at her. She runs and I chase her, but I get yelled at. I guess foster mom says I'm too rough and will hurt her. She is little, you know,  one of those Mexican dogs....lol. After that, I was tired so back to napping I went. These cold days get to me. Oh yeah, I went to the vet few weeks back. I have a skin infection and one in my ears, I have meds for them and they seem to be clearing up well. I was tested for thyroid and diabetes and those came back negative. I did however have elevated liver counts so we are going to see if maybe I have something called Cushings. I will let you know about that. I am still waiting but  I am doing fine here. Foster Mom says she would keep me in a heartbeat, but then she could never be able to help another guy out like me. So I understand and I want to share the love here for the next Boxer needs it. Till next time. Love Shadow

12/10/09 -
Shadow here!! Boy, oh boy, we got that white stuff here and boy it makes me silly!!! I come in and I run and hop around and act all nutty, Foster Mom says...The cold doesn't like my bones so well...I have been snuggling on my bed and loving it when foster mom puts a blanket on me to keep me extra warm. Makes me feel better. When the kids come in from playing in the white stuff, they get hot cocoa, but foster mom says I can't have any. But I got a marshmallow, thanks to one of the kids. That was yummy!! I just wanted to check in to tell you I am still here waiting for that forever home. I am still doing well. I think I am going to hunker down for the winter as for the cold doesn't like us oldy but goodies!!! So, If you're looking for me, I will be in my nice warm bed!!!

- Foster Mom for Shadow here, Shadow continues to be such a good dog . I wanted to
take this time to write what the kind of home I think he needs. He really needs to be in a home where someone is home most of the day. He thrives on people contact, hence why his name is Shadow. He loves everyone in the house but I am his one and only. He must know where I go at all times. He could care less about other dogs and does not need them for companionship. Its people he wants. Don't get me wrong, he gets along with my dog they play they way two old farts would, barking at each other..lol. In the end Shadow wants to be with people. The write up the day in the life of Shadow is him. It has taken 5 plus months to break him out of his shell and for our trust to be earned. In the end he's a very happy, content old man. Give him love, food and a warm place to lay and he will be your best friend. He makes my heart melt every day. When I am down he knows it.He doesn't have all his hearing but I would say at least more than 50% so he really relies on you. So in closing Shadow truly is a amazing Shadow.

A day in the life of Shadow.
~At 6:30 am, my friend lets me out to go potty, then she leaves for school, leaving my here with my foster bud, Boxer. We go to the girls' room where there is usually a big pile blankets on the floor and we snuggle up on them till my foster mom comes home.
~About 8:30 am, there she is opening the door. We both get up, even though we are so comfy, but its feeding time. Boxer and I get a big scoop of food. The walking baby and foster mom gets that for us and a nice big fresh bowl of water. After we are done, I go and try to get some food from that walking baby. He has some yummy things to eat. After that, I go take nap. Chasing him can be tiring..off to the big pile of blankies I go!
~Then a hour goes by and time to go potty, so I go find foster mom tell her I got to go. After that, back to the pile of blankies. I keep that one eye open most days cuz if foster mom peels herself off the computer, I must see where she's going. Then that walking baby gets his lunch. Must follow to see if I can get any!
~About 1:30, foster mom leaves to work again. I follow her to the front door push the curtain aside to see her go, I hate to see her go I get sad. well back to the blankys again.
~At 2:30, the one who lets me out early comes home. I so excited someone is home again! She lets me out. Back to bed I go.
~3:30 and the rest of the kids are home the house is noisy. I get hugs and kisses and petted. I stay up for awhile because to much going on and those after school snacks come out and well I could get a crumb.
~Foster mom comes home 3:45. I push everyone aside to see her. I'm so excited!! I love her. Now she starts to cook dinner most time I get in her way and watch. Sometimes I go take a nap.
~5-6 Me and Boxer get our dinner and then outside we go. We play for awhile. Then the people eat their dinner and I stare to try to get some.
~Everyone's gets ready for bed or watches TV. I just follow and lay whereever I can with whomever I am following. One last time about 8 I go out to pee. Then its nite nite! All the kids go to bed and I cuddle with them and go to bed. Once in awhile I might have to pee during the night. I go to foster mom's room and make noises next to her to wake her so I can go out.
~Then the next day comes and we do it all over. Some days are different like those weekends. I get more of those kids.. I like that.

- Hey! Its me, Shadow!! My time of the dog of the month will be ending shortly, so will the month of October and daylight savings. That white stuff they call snow will be coming soon, I saw some of it last week! Its wet and makes me cold, brrrrrrrrrrr. I  like it when they put a coat on me to go outside. It keeps me warm. I am glad the season for thunder storms is over soon. I don't like them. I get very scared. I don't like the lightning. Days are going to be getting shorter now. that means more snuggling and naps for me...
I want to thank SCBR for giving me the honor of being dog of the month. I really appreciated the added effort to get me a forever home. Until you show up, I think I will chill with these peeps. I like them.

10/15/09 - Hey, Shadow here! Dog of the Month! Wow, I feel big and proud. I would like to thank the wonderful people at SCBR for rescuing me from the streets of NY. To my Foster Family, thank you for loving me and showing me people really do care. Oh. Oh.. Oh! What am I doing?? That's my farewell speech! I haven't gone anywhere yet. Silly me, DUH!!!!!!
The leaves are blowing around outside. I haven't figured out how to get one yet, they're tricky to catch... just like that cat across the street! Boy, would I like to get him. FM says it might snow this week. I will have to see about that stuff. That means I will have to put my coat on, take off my slippers and stop eating bon bons. Ugh! What a life... Well, I am going to have a cup of tea with FM and watch some tv. If she behaves, I'll let her up on the bed with me. I'll let you know about that wet white stuff later....All my love, Shadow.

9/6/09 -
I just had to share this. It's funny how a dog who has has been with you for over 4 months can, all of a sudden, go from a lazy couch potato to a total goof. Last night, Shadow peed on kitchen floor a little. We got him out ASAP and when he came in he was running and bouncing all over the place and started to wrestle with my boxer. Then they went to laying on the floor and barking and howling at each other.  It was so funny. They did this for like 5 mins. Then I had a flashlight in my hand and was shinning it on the floor and he was going crazy. So funny to see the Senior who eats, sleeps and does nothing all of a sudden show this side of himself. It was awesome.

9/2/09 -
Can You believe it? I have been here 4 months. Anyone out there? Now look at all those white boxers I have to compete with.  I may be the oldest but I am the cutest and potty trained and well behaved. I also have very good manners. I may not have all my hearing but I have more than half. I need a lazy friend like me. Why wait any longer? Fill out the application. I know you want to, I am just so cute.

8/12/09 -
FM here for Shadow.  Shadow continues to do great, he's such a good boy and so cute. Don't let his age stop you, he's such a lump on a log and just wants to be loved.  I don't know what more to say about him other than, he's truly a great companion. He eats well, goes potty outside and lets you know when he needs to go. Doesn't get on the furniture and doesn't jump on people.  He knows sit, stay, and lay down back. We areworking on paw, says he's old give me the treat". He's waiting for his forever home, until then we will continue to love him and keep him safe and happy.

7/9/09 -
Attention Attention!!!!!! Read all about it. Just the cutest white Boxer is still available. Yup me, Shadow, I am still here. I don't mind it but I do need a forever home. Fm wanted me to tell you I am not completely Deaf I do hear some and I understand a lot. So if that's scaring you from filling out a application don't let it. You wouldn't know I didn't have all my hearing. I can hear birds and keys and I know my name and sit and lay. Well what more can I say about myself that I haven't already said. These people think I am 8 but I tell ya I don't look it. I am such a well behaved man. See I am still patiently waiting for my forever home. PS... a quiet one.

6/29/09 -

6/10/09 -
Shadow has been to the vet. He got neutered on Tuesday and he is home resting. He's a trooper! He's on a soft food diet.  They did some dental work also- gum removal and these things that look like bubble gum, so he's sore and resting. He got his shots. He has allergies, so he will be on benadryl for that. He got a clean bill of health: no heartworm's or lyme. The vet says he's not 100% deaf, but probably 75%. He hears certain things and others he doesn't, depending on the tone.
The vet also estimated his age at 8 1/2. So, If you're looking for a older companion, he's the man! He's so mellow and laid back. He doesn't get on any furniture. All he wants is a big fluffy blanket to lay on. Doc says he may have little arthritis, but not too bad. He's not hyper. Just perfect! He's waiting for someone to give him love for the rest of his days. He's such a handsome boy! Shadow should be placed in a mellow home, as he's older and not in the mood to play. When my guy tries to play, he gets mad. He's really not a snuggler, either, he just wants to know someone's there. Even though he's good with my guy, my dog is laid back. He is good with my kids. He is a old man and wants to rest, doesn't even like being outside too long.

6/1/09 -
Shadow is still waiting to see the vet on the 8 th to be updated on shots and neutered. Shadow is a great guy; so laid back! He is no trouble at all! Still unsure of age, so I will say over 6 years old. He does show some signs of age. I don't think he's completely deaf. He understands sit, stay, lay down, his name, and he hears bird's key rattle. Other sounds, like coins in a can, nope. He still loves eye contact talking.
He gets along fine with my guy. We call them 2 the grumpy old men. Shadow has no interest in playing with him at all. He eats good. He lets you know when he has to go; he goes out and then
right back in. He doesn't like outside, as in "tie up and hang out", but he will stay out there if I am out there. If I go too far, he will bark at me.
What else can I say other than he may be a older guy but he's so good? Once I find out more on his medical I will post that stuff. He had a bath this weekend so he's so soft and smells good!!!

5/15/09
- Shadow is doing well, Still unsure of Shadows age, We are still waiting to go to the vet..Long Story!!! He has the aches of a senior. I still thing 5 or 6 .He does seem to rely on me a lot and I think this is because he his partially deaf. He has separation anxiety from me. he not happy when he goes in his cage. But he does go.He's eating well using the potty outside. He truly is a shadow follows me everywhere. He sleeps out of his cage a night in my room on his blanket. He's the perfect gentleman. Waiting for a forever home. He Gets along with my dog but does not ever want to play with him if my guy wants to play he's growls once like Not in mood. he's a good boy and knows all commands and he has good manners. He's a Gem

5/3/09 - Hello, My name is shadow. I have been here in my new home for 4 days now and, boy, is it so much better than spending 15 days in a cage!?! My foster family is great. I am not sure how old I am, but I think I am a old man. I have aches and I don't hear very well, but that doesn't stop me from giving love and receiving it. I like to look at your face. I like touch. I am such a good boy! I sleep out of the crate and tell them when I need to go out. I don't jump andI don't get on furniture.
I got my name because I love to follow my foster mom or dog around like their shadow. I don't like to be alone. I get scared. I'm not sure what has happen to me, but I am liking these people. They sure do care. Foster Mom says I have to go the vet's. She said not to worry she won't leave me there. She says I need to be fixed and have my shots. I am eating well I get treats to. For an old guy, this is the life! I feel safe here and loved but Ma says there's a forever home for me out there, so please keep me in mind I'll be your pal forever. Till next time,
Shadow

5/1/09 - Our boy got here yesterday and we took a day to get to know him before trying on a name. We're going with Shadow because it fits. He came to us from a vet's office where he'd been staying for some time. After having in our home and getting to know him I am pretty sure he's is almost deaf. He only responds to certain things, loves eye and face contact, and follows my boxer like a shadow. He seems to have some common boxer oral problems- not sure of the big word- but once he sees the vet I can better give that info. But as of now he's a gentleman and has manners, More info on him and foster home pics soon.
Note** Because I'm deaf, I would do better in a place with a fenced yard and another dog from whom I can take my cues. I also like people around, so if you were home most of the day, that would be great!
