2/24/10 - Sorry, it's been a little while since I've updated Reese, he is still the happiest, easy going guy....but we have run into some persistent lameness with his right hind ACL so we are having further evaluation on it next week with a local ortho specialist in hopes of getting a decision on what needs to be done for him now.
Reese continues to have a wonderful temperament, he walks well on the leash, and I can even walk him with my 3 dogs together. We are quite a sight, 3 boxers and a Boston Terrier, walking down the street.
It has also become very clear that Reese really picks up on his cues from my Boston Terrier, they are the very best of friends. Well, I'll let you all know how he does following his appointment, stay tuned......

1/30/10 - It'ssssss so cold here in CT that all the dogs were just so bored with the days....so today I bundled up and braved the cold brrrrrrr, and Reese had a blast running in the snow chasing my boxer boy and a few games of fetch with the tennis ball. He just loves chasing the ball and brings it back every time so you'll throw it again. He loves tennis balls, soccer balls, wholly roller balls, anything that will roll.
Reese has also started something new the last few weeks. He talks to me, I laughingly call it "chirping". Like now, I'm typing on the computer and Reese is making these tiny little barks, woffs and humph's sounds because he want's me to play tug of war with him. They are the funniest sounding little noises and will make you laugh. He has such a sparkling personality you can't help but want to just smush him.
Well it is dinner time for the doggies, so we will continue to update you on this awesome boy again soon.

1/1/10 - Happy New Year everyone, Reese had a great holiday week and he has been his happy fun loving self. He loves his new toys Santa brought, yup, a brand new BoBo with long fur. He just loves carrying it around and getting my Boston Terrier to play tug 0 war with it. He also got a jumbo sherpa ball and chew bones, all of which he shares well.
Reese has had some difficulty with the cold weather and his ACL, but at the same time he continues to run and play as much as the winter weather has permitted. Reese would also like to wish everyone a happy new year.

11/19/09 - Every week I seem to learn a little something new about Reese.
This week he started what I refer to as "calling me". As I have said before, this boy has ACL problems, they are healed, but they do make it difficult to climb stairs sometimes. Now most days, I am up and down stairs constantly while I'm home. After a while Reese just gets tired of following me. When I'm home he likes to be wherever I happen to be, and the other day he went part way up the stairs and quietly barked. I poked my head around the corner of the door and let him see me. Sure enough, up the stairs he came.
Now whenever he is sleeping then wakes up and doesn't find me right where he last saw me, he goes to the stairs and quietly barks, and waits until he sees me poke my head around the corner.
Now how cute is that.....

10/26/09 - We have been having way to much fun here with Reese, the snuggle puppy. He is such a good boy. At breakfast and dinner, he waits patiently by his dish- actually he lays down at his feeding station in the dinning room. This is not something we taught him, it's just something he does all on his own. My three dogs eat in the kitchen, but there just isn't enough room for a 4th dog to eat there, so he has his own spot in the dining room. While I'm fixing breakfast or dinner, he just lays down and patiently waits until his meal is fixed and delivered. He never makes an attempt to sneak in and help himself to anyone else's food, he just relaxes on his rug patiently waiting.
     Generally around 11 am and 11:30 pm they all get their treat, a "chicky stick" dried chicken breast, although he gets his last, he takes his to his bed right next to my boxer boy and they all eat them without incident. Very orderly and happy to share space with their treat without "sharing their treat".
     I also am very proud of the fact that Reese is doing so well on his sign training. He knows the following signs:
Outside
Go Potty
Come
Sit (or down)
Stay (he will actually do for several minutes)
Go for a Walk
Go for Ride (car ride)
All gone (cookies or treats all gone)
No
No bark
Enough (as in stop playing rough)
Come get lovin and hugs

     He is a very smart and well adjusted boy who is looking for his forever home who will love him and play with him forever. You won't be sorry, he is a love bug.

10/12/09 - Today I introduced Reese to the "pumpkin patch" a local farmer opens his pumpkin fields to young kids and locals, including hay rides and horses, goats and roaming chickens. Reese's eyes almost popped out of his head when he realized that he was surrounded by big orange balls, all shapes and sizes. He wasn't the slightest bit impressed with the fact we call them pumpkins, he was just thrilled with so many potential "balls" to play with. He wanted the giant pumpkin that weighed in at 438 lbs. displaying great play bow's and barking just begging the giant pumpkin to roll. Please, please roll.
He also decided that the miniature goats might be great toys too. I think given half the opportunity he would actually try his paws at "goat herding". Then it was off to meet the chickens....he did seem a little unsure of those flying, dirt pecking two legged critters.
Then it was his turn to try his paws at a hay ride, surrounded by laughing kids and parents. He was such a good boy sitting in the hay wagon. He loved the smell of the horses, his nose was sniffing away. It was a busy day with lots of new animals, smells and activity galore, and Reese just loved it.
Just imagine this boy surrounded by pumpkins and kids at your house. Trick or Treat.

9/21/09 - It's me, Reese, although I can't hear but I can speak. I just wanted you all to know what a great puppy dog I am. I have learned signs, it's hard work sometimes, but my foster mom has lots of patience and she just keeps talking with her hands, and I'm learning. So are the other dogs here, she makes signs to them too. I really like hanging out with the other dogs, something you should know, I get along with everyone, even a visiting Beagle who has an attitude sometimes, but I like her anyway. I don't have to be crated as long as I have other dogs to hang out with, ones that are nice to me and will play with me. I can box and love tug-o-war with rope toys and holey roller balls. I always look to cuddle up with another dog when I go to sleep, I love being warm and snuggly, and I don't "hog" the doggy bed, I'll share with anyone.
Now because I have ACL problems, I can't climb on the furniture, and I sometimes have trouble with stairs, but it doesn't stop me from running and running and playing in the fenced yard, and I love to go for walks. Even though I sometimes move funny I don't hurt. I'm not in any pain. And I want someone to adopt me who is going to love me and cuddle with me, and give me a playmate to run with and sleep with.
I need a fenced yard so I stay safe, but that's okay, that way I can run and play for hours without any one worrying.
Oh, and I'm really really gentle taking treats too. My foster mom gives me a treat and somtimes she has to push it in my mouth because I don't want to nibble any fingers by mistake. I'm a really good boy. Come and get me soon, please.

9/8/09 - Reese has been doing great here and has learned 4 signs so far, NO, COME, his name, as well as GOOD BOY. He is a very quiet boy, even tempered and very sweet. He definitely takes his cues from my male boxer boy and my female Boston. He loves to cuddle with me and with the other dogs. He loves to eat, loves his toys and his treats.
     Although Reese is crate trained, he has earned his way into the pack and is very trustworthy loose in the house for an hour here and there. He would much prefer to have someone around all the time, but he is relaxed enough to snooze while you're gone. He is a very sound sleeper being deaf, but relaxed and trusting enough that when I touch him while he is sleeping he wakes up slowly with his little nub wagging, never startled. Due to his ruptured ligaments he does need to stretch and move slowly before attempting the stairs down into the yard. But, he is housebroken and has meet the 3 and 5 yr old girls next door, again his little nub wagging.
He is a very happy loving boy.

8/26/09 - We are having a great time getting to know Reese, he is such a doll and so very easy to work with. He is awesome with other dogs, friendly, playful and outgoing. He has no fears what so ever, not with people, kids, or other dogs. He is housebroken, he marked once (a dog bed) before he was neutured, but hasn't since. He does know how to fetch, and will bring a tennis ball back to you a few times, and even lets you take it from him without concern. He loves to run free in my fenced yard and especially loves running with my Boston Terrier. He has learned the sign good boy and his name and we will work on others as we go.
     Reese did go to the vet on Monday to be neutered, and since he has been experiencing lameness I had him checked over. It seems that Reese had some damage to his ACL both knees when he was a puppy and has ruptured ligaments, but they healed well and at this time he does not need surgery, but he does have difficulty with sitting as a result and instead of sit he will lay down. He does have trouble climbing a full flight of stairs but no difficulty going down them. A few stairs and you would never know there is a problem.
He is a very happy, loving, mushy boy.

8/21/09 - He is a deaf white boy
Reese arrived in CT this afternoon, thanks to his tranporters. He is a deaf white boy and he is cute as a button and just as sweet. He had a bath on arrival and was so good about standing in the doggy pool, and after his bath he decided that a good long run around and around the yard was the perfect way to dry off. He loves to play soccer too, although he will also grab the ball and run with it... Okay so he cheats a little.
He has met all three of my dogs and this boy loves them all. He is not the least bit shy, but I don't think he has really had any "sign" training so we have already started to work on it.
With all his excitement, he wasn't to hungry tonight, but this is not unusual, I'm sure he will be eating like a piglet soon.

Note** Because I'm deaf, I would do better in a place with a fenced yard and another dog from whom I can take my cues. I also like people around, so if you were home most of the day, that would be great!
