3/14/10 - To think that Lucky will turn ten years old in just one month!  Other that his love of snoozing in the living room to keep me company, he doesn't act "old".  And I for one do NOT think that there is anything negative about a dog who likes to snooze!
Especially when they also enjoy as long a walk as you enjoy, enjoy car rides, enjoy an occasional romp in the backyard with a young and frisky canine friend, and perform their Boxer job of watching and informing their person of "dangerous situations' like a knock at the door.  And Lucky is the number one performer at all of those roles.
He fits in here like he has lived here forever, but he is still looking for his own true forever home.  Maybe you will get lucky on St. Patrick's Day and bring Lucky home with you!

2/9/10 -
As usual, Lucky welcomed our newest foster with wagging nub!.  Although he is nearly ten, Lucky still has enough puppy in him to enjoy a playful romp now and then and tolerate the playfulness of a much younger dog.  Lucky hasn't minded sharing his couch with the newcomer--in fact he was probably the one who 'told' Sherman that couches were even better than a dog bed for snoozing!  (Rocky is such a grumpy old man--he doesn't want to play or share a sofa)

12/12/09 -
Lucky was a big hit at the wonderful Boxer Rescue Awareness Day the Jeannie held in South Portland today.
He met and loved canines and humans of all shapes and sizes--including the tiniest puppy Boston Terrier we had ever seen!  He is SUCH a love-bug--unless you are a cat!!!
There was a very calm grey tuxedo cat in an Animal Welfare League adoption cage, and Lucky was WAY too interested in meeting that little feline face to face!  Just a reminder that there is a reason that we wrote "NO cats" on his website page!
I had a lovely chat with a number of someday potential SCBR adopters--which I love doing.  And Lucky was the ambassador for the breed while we were there.

11/20/09 -
Hello again--Lucky here.  Boy do I feel bad for my foster mom!  She has been so busy at school, she has hardly taken us for any walks!  She still gets lots of kisses from me and the guys, and we cuddle up nest to her on the couch, but I know she is tired.  She said something about another one of those Holidays next week, so maybe that means she can catch up on her sleep and her SCBR work.  But I'm going to help her out a little here.  Here goes:
She didn't even get to tell you about the other exciting trip UP NORTH that we took on the last special Holiday--the one where all the people put on funny clothes.  We visited her friends and even THEY put on funny clothes and masks.  I only got scared once, when these big teeth in a big hairy face was bending down and growling at me.  So I barked.  Once.  And it backed away.  Then I tried to wear a cape, but it kept sliding off.
All the other funny outfits that I saw made we wiggle my nub.  Bunches of kids came and rang the doorbell and I didn't bark at THEM!  I just wiggled and wagged, and waited for them to pet me--which everybody did because I am such a good boy!  And even though lots of candy was right in front of my nose I didn't try to eat or even taste any of it.  (But boy did it smell yummy!)
At night at this house we had to UP the stairs to go to bed.  That was different!  And mom had her own big bed bed again but  this time I got to sleep on a special little couch called a chaise lounge.  Let me tell you, I liked that lounging around part!
And just like at that other place UP NORTH, there weren't any fences, but mom knew that I wouldn't go anywhere away from her when we went out to do my business.  And I ALWAYS do that outside, not inside, (unless I just had to wait too long and I just couldn't wait...  Then I feel bad but I know I did my best)  Anyway, I was a good boy and we all had a lot of fun!
Back here at her house, that Oscar guy keeps her pretty busy, but I hear that he's going to his Forever Home.  And that makes me a little sad, because even though I love mom, I'm still waiting for my Forever Home and I've been waiting longer.  So maybe one of you other moms out there will read this and think that maybe YOU want to be my new mom.  Is it YOU?

10/19/09 -
psssst...Lucky here.  I'm sneaking in to write while mom is busy with the new guy.  She hasn't had a chance to tell you, so I'm going to.  I had so much fun!
Last weekend to celebrate a special day for some explorer, we got to do our our exploring!  Just me and mom, just the two of us. It was WONDERFUL!  We jumped into a new truck with a big thing behind it (they were borrowed) and drove UP NORTH, to a place I had never been before.  When we got to this new place, mom backed the truck and the big thing into the woods and parked.
She let me out of the truck to check out the new place and she turned the big thing into a camper!  We were going to camp out overnight,  I couldn't wait.  I jumped into the camper to see what it looked like and it looked like a tiny house with lots of beds. So I jumped onto the beds and looked out the windows.  I explored the inside of that camper.
When it was all set up, mom gave me my supper and then we took a little walk in the woods (so I could do my business.)  Then we both got into the camper and mom climbed into bed.  I explored the other two beds again to make sure we were alone.  And we were, so I got into bed with mom to protect her and keep her warm.
In the morning mom gave me my breakfast while she made her coffee.  Then we worked all day.  I kept right next to mom so nothing could hurt her, and she cut down bushes, and these nasty vines she called Bittersweet.  When she got tired we took a walk on the beach, and she sat in the sun on a rock while I made sure nothing could sneak up on her.  (Nothing did while I was there!)
When it was almost dark, mom turned the camper back into that big thing, but she didn't put it back on the truck.  She said we might get to go back again and do some more exploring!  I hope so--I LOVED every minute of our trip!

10/8/09 -
Sweetheart Lucky is still waiting at the Riverview Boxer Hostel for his forever home.  His foster mom (me) is wondering why no one has noticed how special this guy is, and scoffed him up!  I know I'm biased, and think all of the Seniors are special, but this guy is one in a million.

Today was the Homecoming Parade in Kennebunk.  Lucky was happy to greet everyone walking by (human and canine), and the noise didn't faze him at all.

Lucky loves attention, but he doesn't demand it.
Lucky loves to go for walks, but he doesn't need one every day (if you don't).
Lucky loves kids, but he's not rambunctious with them.
Lucky loves to be with his people, but he doesn't climb on the furniture.
Lucky LOVES his food, but he takes all treats gently and has no food aggression.
Lucky loves to go for rides in the car, but he can stay home without complaining.
Lucky WOULD love to have his own forever family, but he's still waiting....

Are YOU Lucky's new family?

8/29/09 -
Lucky had the chance to show off his playful side this week.  A friend of my son's has a young shepherd mix that needed a place to stay for the night.  So I said he could stay with us.  And Lucky LOVED having that youngster here to play with!  It took five years off his age for the evening--they played and played and ran and ran--and he acted like he was a puppy himself again.
I was worried it was a little much for Lucky so I made them stop for a while--then they were back at it again.  Let me tell you, they BOTH slept soundly that night!  It was really a lot of fun watching them, and I know they were having fun.
Lucky is a pleasure to have here.  His manners are impeccable, and he never gets on the furniture.  He loves going for walks, and now I know that he would love being some young pup's older brother if he had the chance.
Because he has trouble holding his urine for a long time, Lucky would love that his new home have a person who is home most of the time, and a dog door to a fenced in yard would be ideal (that's what we have here).  A doggie sibling--male or female, young or old--would also be perfect.  Are YOU his new family?

8/9/09 -
Lucky decided he wanted to 'help' me paint the fence that surrounds the back yard (the dog area!).
But he didn't really help!  He walked through the paint tray, splashing paint out and leaving foot prints across the grass.  Luckily he is such a great gut that he didn't mind at all when I wiped his painty paw, even between his toes, and tolerated a second wiping--this time with Vaseline rubbed in--to remove as much of the paint, which was oil based, as we could.
Now I remember to shut the gate to the deck so that my "helpers" stay there while I'm working.

7/19/09 -
Lucky spent the day at the Pet a Palooza at the Louis Doe Pet Center in Newcastle Maine as the SCBR representative.  What an ambassador for Boxers this gentleman was!  He met everyone with a wag of his nub and presented his head proudly for as much petting as was being offered.  He met Greyhounds , and an Aussie,  and even a little tiny Pomeranian with wagging tail, too.
He had a great day and he was GREAT!  And he slept like a log once we got home--all that hard work of meeting and greeting wore him right out!

We think Lucky is wonderful and know that we are Lucky to have him visiting with us.  We think YOU might be the lucky family that has been waiting for a gentleman like him to come along.

7/3/09 -
Lucky is happy to be fully part of his foster family.  He and Rocky are getting along like brothers--which is to say great almost all of the time.  I wouldn't let them eat side by side yet, especially since Lucky is a gobbler and Rocky is a nibbler, but otherwise they are doing great.
Lucky is also doing fine in the crate.  He is crated at night right next to my bed, and not a peep out of him all night long.  When I am not at home to supervise, he is also crated, and has done fine with that, too.  Not that I think that he would do any damage, but since Rocky doesn't crate at all, I use the crate to keep them both safe.
Lucky figured out the doggie door his first day.  And believe it or not, he even goes out in the rain!  (Thank heavens, because boy have we had a lot of rain!)  No accidents in the house for this gentleman, and that's even though right now he has a loose stool (probably due to all the changes he's been through lately).  So he is getting a dollop of boiled rice atop each of his meals for the time being
Lucky is settled in here, and we are happy to have him for as long as he needs to stay--but he would also love to have his own forever home--could it be yours?

6/30/09 -
Lucky has arrived!  He wagged his tail at Rocky through the baby gate, explored the back yard, and is in the crate for the moment.  (He'll have his turn to be part of the family in a minute. ) While both he and Rocky looked like they were happy to see each other, we won't rush into introductions face to face. (SCBR NOTE: We thought Lucky had a new home, but found out, quickly, that it was a big NO to cats, so he's back with us)

6/1/09 -
Well they say time heals, and that is certainly the case for Lucky.  He arrived two weeks ago after a long car trip.  He was scared, stressed and a bit thin.  He would not leave my side, would not use a dog bed to rest but just slept on the cold tile floor that first night.  Then I convinced him to sleep on a dog bed and has now graduated to calling one of the doggie chairs his own.  He had his surgery and updating of shots.  He had a bout of intestinal upset probably caused by stress, but is now well on the road to complete health.  He is eating well and sits and waits for permission to eat.  He has starting to chase Anneke (SCBR) and play, loves our daily walks.  He is very good on the leash and a gentleman when meeting people.  He has been going to work with me as leaving him alone just yet was not working.  But that, too is settling out.  He is starting to know that I will return.  This older gentleman is loving and looking for his forever home.

5/18/09
-  Lucky arrived safely  and will be heading to Dr. Matt for his snip/shots.  He adores the girls and is generalty being a good boy.  We will be updating his demeanor as we get to know him.

5/17/09 - Lucky is home in Maine.  He has been to busy to eat.  Has to check out the ladies of the house.  Hopefully will be taking him to the Vet on Monday for his shots and neuter.  He is a handsome guy.  Thanks to all the transporters for getting him home safely.
