| 7/2/10 - Hi All, Champ here. Things are great here. I just went to the vet today and was brought UTD on all my doggie vaccines and had my thyroid checked and I'm doing great. I was also checked for heartworm and I am a negative for that too, so I am ready. I weigh 74 pounds and my coat is beautiful. Doc Hutchinson couldn't believe how beautiful and soft my doggie coat was. I must admit that salmon, anchovie dog food must be a huge piece of why my fur is so shiney, sleek, and soft, not to mention getting my thyroid managed and back in line. I did get my toenails clipped which I did NOT like at all but they were able to finish and my feet do feel a lot better.
I love going to the Vet. I stand up on the counter, with my front paws, and say hi to all the girls that work there, and I even jumped on the bench and sat next to FM while we waited our turn. I jump on the scale when I need to be weighed and I also jump on the table so Doc and take a look at me. I love the ride up and down on the table that is FUN. FM and I have been taking some walks and that is great. We don't see a lot of people due to where we live, but it's great exercise and the SMELLS out there are fabulous. FM keeps showing me deer tracks but I've never seen one and I keep my eye out for them but they seem to be very illusive. FM has a few things to say... (FromFM:) Now that we've regulated Champ's thyroid he is a much more playful boy. He gets a long well with all his 4 legged friends and folks in the home. He occassionally plays a bit rough now that his thyroid is in line, but he is quick to stop when we squirt him with a squirt bottle. Actually, as soon as he sees the water bottle he is DONE. The only reason we've had to resort to that is due to the fact that the other boxers in the home are much older and he really could get carried away with his play if left unattended. He has never gotten carried away but we don't want to go there. Occassionally, we will let Champ outside without being tied and he never makes an attempt to run. We don't encourage this, but now and again he's snuck out on the deck and just hung out with everybody and then he goes back in the house. He is a really good boy, and has resorted to coming upstairs every morning and visit with me when it is time for ME to get up. He comes up and wiggles, and puts his big front paws on the bed and waits for an ear scratch and gives a little kiss on the nose, then he goes off and checks on the girls to say good morning. Champ does NOT get on the furniture. He is NOT allowed on the furniture at all, and has NEVER even attempted to put his entire body on any piece of furniture. He actually loves to sleep UNDER beds, and coffe tables instead. That is his preferred sleeping arrangement. He is a very good loving boy. Yes, I AM a really good boy, and still waiting for my experienced doggie forever home. Champ 5/6/10 - Good Morning from Stonehouse Farm! Champ here, just wanted to take a few minutes and tell you about my morning. This morning FM and I took off at 6am for a two mile walk, and what a great walk it was. I was such a good boy and stayed right by her side. Occassionally I would get the scent of a deer under my nose and I needed to stop and sniff the heck out of it, but I had such a great time trotting along with FM. I was hoping she was going to let me chase the kitty in the garage but she doesn't so foiled again at play time. I'll let FM tell you a little bit more about how I'm doing. Champ is still a great dog and longs to be someones favorite dog. He is wonderful with kids over 4 years of age, and that is only because he is so big. He is approximately 75 pounds and he is strong. Very athletic, and absolutely loves dog cookies. He knows tons of commands and would make a great companion for a single person that is dog savy, without any cats or small pocket pets. (He wants the bunny too). He is still available to be your forever companion.... that's all for now. 3/10/10 - Champ is such a great dog! I don't know what to say, he is loving, and sweet. He loves to sit between your legs while you scratch his head. He is great for floor clean up. You'll probably never have to clean the kitchen floor. He does still love men the most, so are you a single gentleman who would love a sincere companion? Champ is your man. He loves to ride in the car, he loves going to the vet. (we've been getting his thyroid regulated) He jumps right up on the table and takes a ride to the second floor for the vet to give him a physical, not to mention that he will step on the scale and sit until his weight is registered. He is a really great dog and deserves a really great friend. He does love other dogs, he currently is in residence with 3 other dogs 2 female and 1 male and has absolutely no issues. He loves children, although he is strong and will do better with kids over 4 years of age. His only drawback is that he really does not like kitties. 1/27/10 - Champ continues to be a wonderful gentleman in the home. He loves to sleep in late and does not want to go outside until daylight hits the ground. He even will sleep through the other three dogs being fed in the house at 5:30am. We leave him out all day while at work and he never gets on the furniture or has accidents in the house. He is an excellent boy! He is very strong on the leash and does pull when excited but generally he has very good leash manners. H e still loves men more than women, and any time a new guy comes into the house he trys to give them an entire face bath and ear wash. The other day a friend came over and he licked from one side all the way over to the other side to make sure he got every nook and cranny. At the same time his little nub was going one hundred miles an hour. He's settled in really well, however he continues to try to get down and visit with pooh bear the cat so he can chase him in the basement. If he cannot get down he just stands at the door and whines continually. Champ is a really great dog, and doesn't know that he is eight years old. His face gives that away though. 1/1/10 - I just don't know why I don't have anybody beating down the door for this boy. HE IS THE BEST! When I go to work I leave him in the house without being crated, he never goes to the bathroom in the house. He does like to jump a bit when folks come in but we are working on this. He does want to eat cats. He is very fit, and does not know that he is 8 years old. We had a New's Years gathering last night with about 10 guests and he was excellent! Champ is extremely well trained. He knows sit, down, stay (and he stays), and shake! He loves my little girls. He takes biscuts very gently, never snaps He does growl sometimes when people approach the car, and we are being careful with that. He growled at the gas station attendant, but the guy stared him right square in the eyes, and I believe Champ felt threatened. We did an experiment with my friend who owns the feed store. I told him I had a foster dog in the truck and asked him to put some of the grain on the back seat. I told him champ's name and he said "Hi" and began loading the grain in the back seat. I told Champ to stay where he was and when my friend got to the 4th bag of grain that is when he growled. He never made an attempt to move closer to Andy and I think he was just nervous (Champ that is) so he gave a warning growl and that was that. I would rather have a dog be slightly protective than let somebody steal the car, and some of my other boxers would turn the key for a stranger. Hee, Hee! Champ would love to be someones only dog so he could have all the attention or he will do well with another senior dog. He gets along fine with all three of my boxers and we've had no issues at all in the house with any of them. He does have allergies and does require a special diet. If he does not eat the special diet he is very very itchy on his left ear and scratches behind it until he bleeds, so it will be important to keep him on his special "fish food diet". He's a great dog! 12/13/09 - Hi all Champ here, sorry for the delay but my life is soooo busy in this farm life I've been living. My FM has finally posted some pictures of me that don't make me look totally ancient. I'm such a beautiful reverse brindle boy, and my face is pretty much the only part of me that is showing the gray. I've really been doing a great job showing how wonderful I am with other dogs, as now I can roam the house with Carley and everybody here and I just love all these canines friends. FM & FD have been letting me sleep on the dog bed in their room with Metty and Simon and I'm just as good as can be. I sleep all night long and wake up when they tell me to but I'd rather sleep in a bit longer if truth be known. Oh, I just want to let you know as well that I have not had 1 accident in the house! I'm awesome! I like FM better now, but I still like FD better as he's a guy, ya know? I just like to bud around with the guys. I really hope you like my new pictures, I'm such a mush face. I love to rest my head on your knee or lap as you can see and I really like my head rubbed at the same time. I'm not difficult around the house at all. Oh and I love walks, although it's a bit cold in this state called Maine this time of year so I'd prefer to go back in the house as soon as possible after my business is done. FM takes me out to do barn chores and it's freezing! What is that all about? I told her I'm good without chores and she finally put me back in the house. I'm very exciteable and act like a very young wiggly boxer when you get me going so don't let my age fool you, and the gray nose as I definitely don't act my age at all. Oh FM mom wants to say a few words, take it away... Hi folks Champ is a great, great dog, especially for somebody who may be older and wanting a companion animal. He is just fabulous! He is so well trained, gentle, and well mannered. I think he's only barked once maybe twice while here on the farm and that was to let us know somebody was at the door. The worse thing he does is whine when you go out the door. He cannot stand when my husband goes outside it drives him to distraction so he whines until he comes back or he's bored with whining. If you are looking for the perfect "just add water" type dog, Champ is your man. Don't wait put your application in soon so you don't miss out! 12/7/09 - Hi again! Champ here~WOW I got to meet Carley nose to nose today and nothing happened. I guess she thinks I'm cute!! Gosh am I excited, now I've met all the canines in the house and there is not one that I don't get along with. I'm such a great boy. My foster parents went away this weekend and their friend came to stay at the house with all us animals, he was AWESOME! I got to sleep upstairs on the floor all night long right beside him. I just loved him, but of course I just love men anyway as my other owner was a man and I loved him soooo much. Today when Foster Dad came home my butt just about wiggled off, honestly I was sooo psyched. I'm excellent on a leash, excellent with my behavior, I sit and stay when you tell me to, and I really don't move until you release me from my spot. My foster brother and sisters don't do that even, but I do. The best part about me is, I'm trained, I'm hansome, and definitely don't know that I'm eight years old. I'm patiently waiting for my forever home to come forward, please put in your application before christmas so I can settle in before the holidays. I would love to be your before christmas present to yourself. Thanks Champ. 12/2/09 - Champ here from Stonehouse Farm~ Wow, I didn't know there was a life outside of the city. What a difference! Different smells, different things, and definitely different animals. A cat that lives outside named Pooh ~ Yuck outside brrrr. The biggest Great Danes that FM keeps refering to Horses. I've never heard of that breed of dog, but boy oh, boy are they big! I don't really have an interest in them but I like to look at them when I go for my walk with Foster Dad. Gosh, I really like him. Now FM she is kind of the "enforcer". Always making me go in the stupid crate, which I do but not willingly. Thankfully I don't need that crate at all cause I'm such a great boy and have no accidents in the house AT ALL! I'm much too proud for that . I like to hang out with my Foster brother Simon. I'm happy to hang with the girls too, but Metty keeps growling at me when I get close to Foster Dad or Foster Mom or near her couch. She seems to really like that couch and boy does she growl loud when I get close to it, so FM finally put her in the crate! Seems fair enough to me, but she was not happy about that all, and I can't say that I blame her. I like other dogs and have shown NO aggression at all to these dogs, but again Metty has no interest in being my friend. I think I would do well with other dogs in a home should you have one. Cats are interesting but I really can't get close enough as it keeps hiding in this place called a hayloft and that is off limits to me. FM says she is going to take me for a walk with Simon to see how I do, seems like a no brainer to me :) Don't you want a dog in your home where you can just bring me in and play and relax? Not worry about housetraining, or having to leave me in a crate? I'm an awesome dog and would love to make you my new best friend. I am allergic to a few things and eat a special doggie diet of Eagle Pack Holistic food, so my ears don't itch, but as long as that is maintained I'm good to go and no ear problems. By the way if FM every buys new batteries she will update my picture on the website. Don't let the picture here fool you, I am a big boy and not small like I look in this picture. Please put in your application now to adopt me, I want to be in a home where someone loves me all the time in time for the holidays! Thanks for your help with this ~ Your new friend Champ! 11/30/09 - Champ is a great dog! Beautiful and lots of muscle. Doesn't seem to mind Metty & Simon however he has postured a little bit with Metty but she currently has her nose out of joint due to the fact that he is here. Champ is still a bit stressed and sad due to his changes. Our understanding is that his owner fell sick with a terminal illness and had to move in with family. Unfortunately some of the family members were allergic to Champ and he was sequestered to the basement until we brought him into rescue. I cannot imagine how sad this boy is to leave his owner of so many years. I believe that Champ will do extremely well in the company of another man as he has really shown that he feels more comfortable with my husband. He walks with me and listens but he just doesn't wiggle for me like he does my husband. So guys out there who want a loyal companion, here is your chance at a really great boy! He doesn't know that he is 8 years old he really thinks that he is 5 as he has a ton of energy and loves to go for walks. He is not much of a country boy as he just doesn't know what to do with the horses and the cat and all the other animals that live on a farm. Today he whined for 15 minutes while we fed the horses in the barn~definitely a city boy through and through. Let's get those applications in for this wonderful boy as he really needs a great forever home! 11/28/09 - Champ has arrived at Stonehouse Farm and is much bigger than he looked in the pictures. He weighs 75-80lbs and is a typical size boxer in height. Very very strong and muscular, but listens when you say no. He doesn't love the crate as he has been in it about 10 minutes and is making a lot of whiney noises, but he will get over it. He has a beautiful coat! I believe the car ride to Maine stressed him out quite a bit, but I'm sure he will chill out soon and take a nap. I think he will require a little bit of leash training due to the fact that he is so strong, but he is not naughty strong. It was determined on the transport up to Maine that a Flexi-leash is definitely not the way to go with this boy due to his strength. I believe this boy will make someone a very nice dog. He met Metty but she was not interested in being friends and growled shortly after introductions. He seemed okay with her but since it's his first night we kept the introductions short so as not to stress him any further. We'll try the boy in the house tomorrow with him and see how that goes for introductions. It says he's always been a good boy to all people. but not sure about all dogs. Champ is just waiting for his forever home, I'm sure he will make somebody a perfect companion to live out the rest of his boxer life. He loves walks according to his letter he came in with, so if you have a daily walk on your list get your application in now. |
