UPDATE 7/7/10 - After three months, Petey has become a very comfortable member of the family. He has integrated the routines into his life & is very devoted to us.  He knows what is expected of him, but also tries to scheme a bit...as only a boxer can!

We spent three days last week building an 18" high stone border around our garden. Not so much to keep Petey out, as to keep the dirt contained while he & his pals run through full speed.  We didin't build it any higher because we absolutely knew it would become a boxer "equestrian jumping" game & someone would get hurt. As a bonus, the amount of dirt tracked into our kitchen has gone down significantly.

It is funny how Petey will melt if he goes out in the rain, trembles during a bath,is afraid of the sprinkler, and yet he will get soaked playing with the hose and has a ball chasing the water!

Can't imagine waking up each morning without Petey coming in and covering his teeth with his lips and nibbling my ear.It is the cutest thing. Life with Petey is good!

UPDATE 6/2/10 - Now that we spend so much time outdoors, Petey is very very busy all day. He "helps" with all the yard work and planting and particularly enjoys anything involving the hose. Needless to say, there are lots of muddy puppy antics going on.

This week is our last obedience training session. In spite of the fact that he is a teenager, Petey has done quite well learning all the rules he is expected to follow at home and on his walks. We will, of course ,solidify all he has accomplished by adding lots of distractions as we work.

Petey has made great strides with getting in the car. He now gets in easily and is not stressed as we take a drive around the block. Soon we will begin taking longer rides & eventually get to the dog park. Yay!

So at the end of the day, Petey is a tired, dirty, & happy pup who just needs a quick hose-down before he comes in and rests up for tomorrow!

UPDATE 5/3/10 -   Petey has been with us for a month now and has adjusted well to his new home. He is happy & playful & wants to please. He is also very, very cute! A couple times a week, his dog friends come over to run & play in the yard. He also loves when people come to visit & behaves quite nicely.

Petey is is responding well to his training & enjoys the work; he is quick to pick up on the lessons. In addition to  basic training, the trainer is adressing the issue of his stress in the car. This is a very slow process, as we are slowly breaking it down into positive, stress-free steps.

As each day passes, we see more and more of his sweet personality shining through.

UPDATE 4/9/10 -   Week one with Petey: As with most dogs, it took a few days for Petey to relax into his new environment. He seemed a bit confused & perhaps a little frightened..."Who are these people & why did they bring me here?" We have remained very calm & consistent & have given him clear expectations and lots of praise. With that, it has been great to see his confidence grow each day.
While at the vet,Petey stole the hearts of the staff when he was so sweet & gentle with a tiny pup in the waiting area. In fact, everyone he meets, whether in our home or on a walk, falls in love.
Thursday was a break-thru day! A dog neighbor came over to play and they had a ball. The lawn was literally torn up from running and spinning. Petey's white paws were black & his cute pink muzz was caked with dirt and slobber...Dog heaven! Since then, it is clear that Petey is comfortable & happy with his new home & family.

4/4/10 - I was adopted today!

All I can say is what a difference a week makes!!!! This boy as really settled in and he is the funniest dor ive ever met. He has us laughing all the time, Just being a goofy guy, playing fetch and he has a stuffed squirl that he just loves to toss in the air and tries to catch. He will play for hours then so he dosent loose his ball he sits with it in his mouth on the couch. Ive tried to get a pic of him doing this but hes to fast for me. He has mastered the going out side routine. (thanks to Lina) he is such a happy boy. We really like him a lot. We have been able to take lots of walks and he does great with a harness, he does pull on a leash but we just go with the harness. All I can say is he is a funny boy who is just waiting for his forever home, im sure he will make you laugh as much as he does us.

In with a monsoon came Sweety Petey!!!!! He is soo cute and very frendly. It took him a little while, but he was giving us kisses on the way home. He is very scared and afraid, but I'm certin after settling in here he will do just fine. He walks fine on a leash, but its supposed to stop raining here today so I want to take him for a nice walk with a harness. He crates well, not a problem. He likes to play fetch with the boys. Its hard in the house, but they make it work. He is very tall and tends to counter surf, but listens well to correction. He gets along well with Cooper, But Lina still gives him a hard time. He dosent seem to mind. He is trying to play with them but is still unsure. Once he settles in he will be wonderful. More to come on Sweety Petey.
