| UPDATE 8/3/10 - Zoey is doing wonderful in our home. She is a happy playful boxer with the usual loads of personality. She has been gaining weight with us as well which is a very good thing. We can still see her ribs a little too much but she eats and drinks very well so I dont expect any issues. Our only problem with her is that she is still extremely timid about socialization. When I bring her to the pet store she still wants nothing to do with new people. Other dogs she is fine with. She is this way with our neighbors that she sees just about every day. I dont want to think about her life before we got her. We will stay patient and consistant with her. On a lighter note, we discovered that she likes laundry, especially the dirty laundry from the hamper. Her favorite room is our downstairs bedroom and she likes to bring all the laundry down there to the bed we when we aren't looking. Its like she trying to build a fort out of my underwear hehe. We still havent taken her to obedience trai ning because I don't think it would benefit her yet. I think she needs to be comfortable in the surroundings before she starts. If anyone has any tips that might help, please let us know. UPDATE 7/2/10 - Zoey is doing excellent in out home. We have managed to put a few pounds on her and she has proven to be quite the little couch potato with us every evening. She loves to go on our daily walk with our other boxer Lennox, but she is still very shy with new people and frightens easily with new sounds. We take her to the pet store twice a week to help with socialization just by walking her around. She loves other dogs, but is very hesitant with new people. We have seen improvement though. She prefers to be able to come and sniff on her own terms. Around the house she is excellent although jumping on my head at 5 AM when I'm on vacation isnt model behavior. She likes our cat a little too much but the cat is smart enough to just hide when Zoe is in an extra playful mood. That's all til next time. UPDATE 6/12/10 - Zoey is fitting great in our home. She LOVES Heather and tends to follow here all over. I think its a female thing. Her and our dog Lennox act like theve been friends forever. We went for our first group walk yesterday and it went ok. Zoey like to pull some and we'll be working on that. She is not afraid of the sounds of cars but is still very shy to meet new people. We were very worried that Zoey would have trouble eating and drinking after talking with her foster mom, but that hasn't been a problem. She eats and drinks with Lennox although I find it funny that each like to use the other bowls. The one very funny thing that happened this week is that Zoey forgot that we have a screen door after the wooden one. She must have really had to go because when I opened the wooden door, she completely knocked the screen door off its hinges. Needless to say, we slow her down at the door now. UPDATE 6/6/10 - After a brutal trip through traffic from NJ to RI, we all made it back to RI. Zoey and our boxer Lennox hit it off great right away. By the end of the evening, our new little girl had eaten and drank and had her nub wagging and up in the air. I don't think we could have asked for a better first day. 6/5/10 - I was adopted today! 5/30/10 - We are getting to know Zoe a little more each day. This is a very shy girl who initially needs some space to settle in and come around. She is still fearful, some dogs are socialized more then others. Some dogs are well socialized but have timid personalities. I'm not sure if this is nature or nurture with Miss Zoe but you can count on her being the sweetest little girl. She needs you to be patient and allow her to come to you. She still jumps when you move quickly or if there is a loud noise. I am hoping as she settles in this will get better. Zoe is allowing me to pet her and is working her way into the pack. The older resident dogs have begun to let her into the pack. The have allowed her on the couch along side them :) She was actually sleeping with her behind on top of one of the senior girls. She seems to gain some comfort/security from their approval and being close to them. This girl needs to be in a quiet low key home. I would recommend if there are children in the home that they be well into their teens. I would really encourage another dog in the home too. More to come on the peanut...... 5/27/10 - We are on day 3 and this little peanut is slowly coming out of her shell. I am beginning to see the Boxer within. She has pawed at some of the resident dogs to play and has tried to join them on the couch. That did not go over to well..lol lol They're a bunch of divas... Sadie gave her a what for.. she barked and growled at the newbie. I guess it was Sadie's way of saying "sorry honey.. the prime property is not yet for you" . Zoe accepted the rejection and took a spot on the dog bed on the floor. Zoe is really trying for some acceptance from the pack. She is clearly much younger then these canine old folks. So, they get a little cranky when she attempts to box with them. Zoe moves right through it and finds something else to do. Zoe also found a pen that she thought would make a fun toy. There is still an adolescent Boxer running around in that little body :) She will need to be crated when no one is home. ( just so she stays out of trouble) . She ate and drank today.. finally! Whew. She is still timid but slowlyyyyyy coming around. More to come on this little cutie as we get to know her :) 5/24/10 - Zoe has arrived.. Zoe was surrendered because of her family lost their home due to the economy. She lived with children over 12 years old and was trained using a "clicker'. She is a very sweet young lady. Zoe needs some time to settle in she as she is a little scared and unsure of all the changes. I will update her progress in a few days as she settles in and becomes more comfortable in her new surroundings. I have no doubt the bouncing Boxer within will show herself shortly :) |
