| UPDATE 2/21/10 - Zoe is doing very well. She has adjusted to the family and has grown quite attached to my 7 year old. Although, she seems to play well with my 3 year old daughter she is very careful not to knock her down. They sleep in the same room and play constantly around the house. We have our first appointment for the vet. on 2/22/10. She is a great addition to our family and we are very happy to have her. I'm looking forward to our obedience training because she still pulls when we go for a walk, but we love her. 2/13/10 - Zoe has been adopted! 2/7/10 - Well, Miss Zoe has arrived back in NJ this morning after a brief stay in Massachusstes - unfortunately Zoe's new brother did not want to share his family. Zoe bounded back into the house here elated to be reunited with his foster skin and fur brothers but it was a tearful goodbye for the folks who had hoped to have Zoe in their lives. She was certainly well loved in that week and came back freshly groomed with a new toy, a pretty bow tied tied to her collar and a new pretty link leash. It was through no fault of her own or theirs that Zo had to come back into rescue and back in MA there is a sad boy who will miss Zoe. His MA family also feels, as do we, that Zo would be perfect in a family with kids and lots of activity. Zo is also fine with other dogs, it was just unfortunate that the resident dog in MA was unhappy about her presence. We are happy to see Zoe, but know she shouldn't be here long. She is just a happy go lucky. easy going, bundle of energy with nice manners & a sweet personality. She is happy to run around like a goof ball and she is also happy to snuggle up for a nap. If you missed your chance the first time, act now! 2/7/10 - Zoe came back into rescue today. The resident dog didn't take well to her coming into the family. 1/30/10 - I was adopted today! 1/26/10 - Miss Zoe was spayed yesterday and came through with flying colors. Zoe inched in at 48 - a whopping 15 pound gain from when she arrived back in December. She is at her perfect weight now - our work is done :-) I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to nurse her back to health, help her trust and then watch her as she began to love life. She is now the poster girl answer for anyone who asks, "Why do you foster?" 12/22/09 - Zoe went to the vet today and we were thrilled to learn she is now 43 pounds - a full 10 pound gain - not unlike her foster mom this time of year, except Miss Zoe needed to gain weight! The vet was thrilled with her progress - not just weight wise but also that the pressure sores she had are completely healed. She still needs to gain another 8-10 pounds but if we keep going at this rate she will be at her perfect weight in another few weeks. She came to my office with me again today and happily curled up at my feet, accepted treats from coworkers and even got in a few good games of fetch - she is very cute the way she bounces in unison with the ball. Her personailty is definitely starting to emerge - she's a great little girl! 12/21/09 - Zoe will be going to the vet tomorrow for a follow up appointment/weigh in and we are all curious to see the official numbers. She continues to be a very good girl at home, although if left to her own devices she will definitely counter surf - yesterday while her sweet potato was cooling off she decided she had waited long enough and helped herself, but this is really her only negative trait. She is perfectly housebroken, affectionate, walks nicely on her leash & knows basic commands. She is wonderful with kids of all ages and has learned to play. Although she doesn't like the cold, she did have fun pouncing around in the snow yesterday with her skin brother and his friends. All she needs for Christmas is her forever home and she will be a happy little girl! 12/11/09 - After a full week with us, this girl is settling in nicely - not so afraid and a little more confident. We haven't had an official weigh in, but everyone thinks they have seen improvement. Today she accompanied me to my office and she wins hearts where ever she goes. She's just happy to have a warm soft place to curl up - and of course food! She has been walking to school with us, but a recent cold spell has necessitated breaking out a warm coat for her. She patiently lets us put on her outerwear but is not very fond of the cold. We have decided on the name Zoe for her, which means, "life" in Greek. More to come! 12/7/09 - This little one is a sweetie & she is doing great! She had a wonderful afternoon at the doggie spa yesterday with Aunt Tracy & smells nice & clean. She is doing SO great she even went into heat yesterday - LOL! She is eating wonderfully & her digestive system is tolerating food perfectly! She has very good manners & is totally housebroken. We're working on simple commands & she is a quick learner. She has really attached herself to my 11 year old son & after he went to be last night we heard her frantically pacing the hhouse - she simply wanted to climb into bed with her little boy. We've already had to loosen her collar a notch :-) She is visibly relaing & much more at ease - her tail is no longer wrapped tightly under her body. She's going to be fine! 12/4/09 - This little girl came to us through a shelter via an owner surrender! Suddenly the owners decided they "could not afford her." Apparently they did not realize this until she was completely emaciated. Her pressure sores indicates she has been in bad shape for an extended period of time. In any case, this little girl is now well on her way to learning about kindness and love - and food! Despite the atrocities she endured she is extremely sweet natured. Her only health problem is a nasty case of round worm and she is on meds - already the worms are no longer visible so in a few days she should be fine and can then begin to start gaining some serious weight. I was afraid she would not be able to tolerate food, but on the contrary, she has been doing fine - both ingoing and outgoing :-) We are feeding her multiple small meals supplemented by Sea Cure (a fish oil product used to help malnourished and preemie babies gain weight) and peanut butter, and yogurt - all healthy stuff for this girl from now on! She (still trying to come up with a suitable name for her - her "owners" claimed her name was Princess despite not exactly treating her like one!) is a frightened little girl - her undocked tail is usually tightly curled under her tiny body - but in the past 24 hours she seems to have relaxed quite a bit. She does not seem to have an aggressive bone in her body - she likes the resident Chow and actually seemed a bit afraid of our surly Maine Coon cat. She amazingly has no food aggression, bless her soul. She has completely fallen in love with my 11 year old and sticks to him like glue. When we walked to school this morning she kept eye contact with him the whole way - and she wanted to follow him right into school. On the walk home she kept turning to look for him. She also walked beautifully alongside the Chow - maybe using him as a sweater for body warmth?! She won over lots of hearts at the vet yesterday and was patient and tolerant as she was poked & prodded. I don't think she has had much experience walking on a leash, but that will soon change. She does seem to enjoy car rides and she seems to be housebroken. I think this is one special little girl and we are looking forward to getting her healthy, strong & fattened up for the holidays! We will write more as we get to know her! |
