5/24/10 - Zeus is a wonderful dog who would really prefer to be in a home without children.  If he didn't have such a problem with kids, he would be staying right here with us, however, he continues to growl daily at our son and any kids who happen to come over or be in our yard--and there are many kids around here.  We've tried in-home training with a specialist in hopes of turning this behavior around with no progress.  I hate to see him so scared all the time.  He loves adults, other dogs and cats though!!  He checks over our cat whenever she comes in from outdoors and he'll lick her just to be sure she's clean!!  Zeus has so many other great qualities in him.  He does not need to be crated.  We've never crated him and he has never gotten into anything ever--even when he had the opportunity.  He's not a counter surfer and he doesn't get into the trash.  He's also never had an accident in the house.  He hangs out in our yard and even though we don't have a fence, he never tries to run off--of course when he's outside, so are we.  He LOVES his toys, especially balls.  He will chase a ball all day long.  He also plays soccer with the bigger balls--it's funny to watch.  He knows lots of commands and our trainer said that he's very expressionable with his eyes. He also loves to go for car rides--he sticks his head out the window and sniffs the air--it's cute with his ears and jowels flapping in the wind:)

- After trying very hard to make it work out, a very sad family has made the tough decision that Zeus needs to find another home.  They love him but he just has not adjusted to living with a child or having kids around him.   Updates soon from the home that will be fostering him until we can find Zeus his new home.

UPDATE 10/4/09 - Zeus is doing well aside from some growling issues with my son and a few neighborhood kids.  I correct him right away and he obeys.  We have a personal trainer coming to help us with his issues and he seems to be making progress.  He loves to play outside with any type of ball.  Our trainer gave us one that is squishy but won't snap in half like a tennis ball.  He would make a great goalie in soccer as it's very difficult to get the ball past him!!  Having Zeus has been wonderful but difficult at the same time---I still miss my IdaBoo so much and his personality is very different from hers.  I never worried about anyone coming to the house or approaching her to pet her.  With Zeus, I really need to be watchful as he has lunged at a young boy and has been growly at times.  He has gotten better and he knows whose the boss.  I think he just either didn't grow up with children or he wasn't properly socialized with them as their quick movements seem to make him nervous.  As long as he is willing to learn and makes progress, I think we'll be fine.

8/9/09 - I was adopted today.

Zeus III is such a sweet gentleman. It must have broken the hearts of the folks who had to let him go. He is very happy. He gets along great with Lilly our cat and Cuddles our dashund. He is also very smart and knows all his tricks.
He wants to play with his tennis ball all the time and if you give up he is happy just to lug it around or keep it close by! I gave him a rawhide bone and he likes to keep it close as well, but will give it up if asked.
Loves going outside for walks and also is very good about going to the door when he needs to relieve himself. Goes straight into the kennel when asked with no problems or coaxing! Wow. Who could ask for anything more than this very sweet loving boy! He has been nuetured. I will get Savannah to do his box-top on Thursday.
Plenty of energy, loves to romp and play yet also content to snuggle up beside you on your bed, that is if you allow that sort of thing! Till next time....

7/31/09 -
Hi There!
I am Zues III (although I CANNOT imagine the 2 before me can equal my charm and sweet disposition.  BUT, that is My humble opinion.  Of Myself...)
   Here's my story.
I arrived in Connecticut with my Mom, Casey, from Missouri almost a week ago.  I have been hanging out at this place with a bunch of other Boxers.  Mostly I kept to myself although Mya the senior female here slept near my crate the first couple of nights.
I met the other two nice boy boxers and we ran and played for a little bit.  I like other dogs and I am NOT AT ALL dominant or possesive.  I will share my toys and give them up to a human pretty readily.  I like to lick little kids because it makes them giggle.  I guess they giggle because they cannot wiggle like a boxer can.
I am an acrobat my foster mom says.  The food here is kept upstairs.
When you see me you will see how SKINNY I am.
So, I was pretty motivated.  I climbed onto a chair, over the refrigerator, onto the steps and shazzzaaam!  I'm in!
Then some wiseguy invented plastic storage bins for the food.
I had to settle for TREATS after all that effort!  Foster mom couldn't figure out how I got on the other side of the gate that blocks the stairway.  So, I had to show her again!  LOL!
Not only am I beautiful, I am SMART!
I am the PERFECT boxer.  Foster mom can't say enough good things about me.  As long as I have a squeeky ball, some good food and a warm place to rest I will be in heaven.
You will find me to be handsome, house broken, nice manners.  I do pull on the leash a little bit and I do my best obedience when enticed with a tennis ball.  I crate really well.
When it is safe to walk me off leash, like at the beach or the park I am very happy and I do come back when you call me!
Have I mentioned that I am a talker?  I want you to play so I talk.
You hold my toy away too long and I BARK,  just once or twice though.
I growl at my toys even though they are in my mouth.
Foster Dad said I will be snapped up in a hearbeat!
I went to this huge place called Lowes.  I walked all around the store and people patted me and I wiggled and kissed everybody.  The noises didn't bother me and I was a superb ambassador for SCBR.  A nice man there wanted to adopt me on the spot!  Another nice lady said she would take me home too!
SOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo,
YOU had better get your application in for me quick, quick, quick!
Or you will miss out on me, Zues III
Good night, I will be dreaming of my new forever home and saving up boxer kisses for you 'til you find me!

Casey and Zues have arrived from MO. Very long trip for these 2 dogs, and they handled it beautifully. They are a beautiful fawns with black masks and white toes. Both are in very good condition, Zues could use a few pounds but he is so soft and sweet.
I would like to thank Brigid for overnighting both dogs and keeping Zues until he can be moved to ME this weekend, they ate while I was there and should settle fine, they do cuddle when they sleep. Who ever gets to foster Zues in ME is going to love him he is a real sweet boy.
