UPDATE 6/29/10 - Yuki is really coming along great. She was so afraid of people that she was being aggressive. This has changed a lot, but is still a work in progress. Took her to the vet today to get weighed and she has gained 4 pounds and she was so good. They were amazed! She didn't try to eat anyone. lol
She's got the life. Lots of people and other dogs that visit. She loves hanging out around the camp fire at night with us. We're going to try taking her on the boat soon. I think she'll do fine:)
We love her so much. It makes me sad that she could be considered a bad dog in the care of the wrong person. Some people think that I'm crazy for going through the work, but she's worth it. Spending the time and energy has changed her alot so far. At night she cuddles with anyone that'll have her and she is such a lover. So cute.

UPDATE 5/18/10 - Yuki is great! It's been a week now and she has settled right in to our home. She went to the vet's yesterday and all is well. No lyme, heartworm, etc. She is all up to date now.
She does NOT greet people well, but we are working on that. Even our vet thinks that she is wonderful and with time she will get past it. I'll be getting her into obedience soon too.
She LOVES toys and she has many. When she is nervous, she grabs a toy and won't put it down. The first night she was here, she fell asleep on my lap with a ball in her mouth. lol My daughters are so in love with her. She is so sweet. She was playing with a stick and got so excited that she broke her collar. She is full of energy. She went right to the front door though. Such a good girl. She also knows basic commands:) She has met other dogs in our family and she gets along great with them. I can't wait until I can take her with me to do a BRAD. I know she will be loved by all.

5/11/10 - Yuki has been adopted!

5/9/10 -
Yuki has now been here a week and is every bit as cute as her name.   She is fun and playful and the most loyal, loving dog I have ever met.  When I bend down to do something on her level she is right there giving me the most tender sweet kisses.  Her loyalties are very subtle.  She is not an in your face, in your way, jumping on you all the time kind of dog.  She just wants you to know that she is there for you and in return asks that you are there for her.  She will give me these casual little glances that just say "I know you love me, and I love you too".  She often accompanies me around the house just to check out what I am doing and is content just being by my side.
Coming from a home with one person to a home with 5 children and 3 dogs has been a huge adjustment for Yuki and she is doing very well with that.  She likes the companionship of her foster fur bothers.  When they are playing I do find her observing more than anything but she is also learning how to join in on the fun.  The adjustment with Yuki and young children has been a little more difficult and this is why the age under 4 is changed to "no".  Yuki just doesn't always understand why she has to share my attention with little people.  She is getting better and better with this everyday but seems to except the older children because they do not demand so much of my attention.
Yuki behaves very well in the house.  She does not chew or get into things that are not hers and does not mind if she is in her crate.  She is not rough in the house but is silly when she is playing with a toy and jumps like a deer.  She does however get very excited when she knows she is going outside.  Sometimes she is so anxious she is unable to control herself and we have had a few accidents.  I am working on this and bring her out more often so she learns that her level of excitement does not have to be so intense.  Yuki is a burst of energy when she is outside.  She wants to run and jump and play and just loves to be foot loose and fancy free.  This is when I call her kookie Yuki.  Then once we come in the house she settles right down.  She seems to know her place to play.  She continues to pull for a few minutes when going for a walk but then calms down and walks great.
Yuki told me she is sad today because it is Mother's Day and she wants her own forever family.  Kisses from Yuki!

5/2/10 -
Yuki was an owner surrender due to her owner passing away.  Her owner's family was unable to keep her due to their living circumstances and was sad to let her go.  She is the most beautiful dark brindle and the white on her neck and face has pea-size freckle spots (way too cute).  She is petite in size but a little thin.  I don't think she will have any problem putting on a few pounds here.  She did not live with a dog before but very quickly and perfectly fit in with my pack of 3.  She has no problem being in her crate and does not bark or protest at all.  When she arrived she seemed to pull on her leash.  I took her for a walk last night, with a harness, and she pulled a little for the first few minutes and then settled right into a nice stride.  While we were walking she heard a dog barking very aggressively and she did not even blink.  She seems very tolerant of small children and I think loves all the attention.  She has not even been here a full day and we are all in love with her.  Get your apps in she is amazing!
