| UPDATE 7/15/10 - I am a tiny bit late on my three month adoption update. I cannot believe that we have had Storm almost 4 months already, he acts and feels like he has always been with us.
Storm graduated from beginner training last month. He had so much fun, and misses his girl friend Wrigley whom he would spend his time french kissing to the delight of the other parents. Storm continues to be a great embassador for the boxer breed, and I am able to sing the praises of SCBR. We have had a few BBQ's here, with many of the family members meeting him for the first time. They totally fell in love with him, and he with them. I have many offers to dog sit if we want to go away. He is great with the children ranging from 4 up, and is a good sport about been led around, petted, feed from many different hands, kisses and loved on. Storm just loves attention! But is quite happy to lay by your side, unfortunately with me he lays on my feet. We are still battle seasonal allergies, and have him on Benadryl 2X's day. I finally give in, and had him tested for hypothriodism which came back negative, as around Memorial weekend he started to shed like crazy. Things have settled down and the hair has gown back in his bald spots. Storm will eat anything that come under protien, and looks forward to his meals. When he wants a snack he will put his chin on the little counter in the kitchen where I keep his duck jerky and knocking the bag if it is in reach. He is counter sufering a little bit more, but has come up empty mouth. He has learnt to stay out of the kitchen when I am cooking or making a sandwich, and lays down by the doorway while we are eating. He walks fantastically on a leash, which I hook through my fanny pack. He is getting better at ignoring other dogs. If he was running for office, he would have won. Storm loves my hubsand and knows that he has to sit down to get attention, and he's my hubands smoking buddy, (don't worry Storm does not smoke just goes out side everytime my huband does). He get mads if he does not call him when he is ready to come in. One day Stom hit the deck glass door so hard that I jumped and you could just see that he was fumming we just had to laugh. Can definately tell when he is not happy. So far he had caught a woodchuck an played ball with it for a while, until my husband realized and called him allowing the creature to make his escape, the also caught a bird the other day, again hubby to the rescue. Thankfully both animals were just stunned and got away. My sister is coming from England next month and she has toys for him, siad she could not leave him out, like he would know! My husband keep saying that Storm hit the mother load when I adopted him. He's my heart, what can I say, and he is just perfect! UPDATE 5/2/10 - Well Storm has been with us a month now. I am amazed at how much I love this guy; he is never to far from my side. I think he is part blood hound he can smell food or hear the rustle of a wrapper even if he is downstairs. He will eat any and everything he can get in his mouth, even used Kleenex (the only non food item he will get into), so I am changing all the waste paper baskets in the house to ones with covers. He is doing a little bit more of the counter surfing, but we are pretty good at not leaving food where he can reach. Storm has worked his way to bed privileges with my older son, and sleeping in my younger son’s bedroom at night, but on his own bed. He is continuing to learn how to play with his toys with us and loves to be chased in the backyard so he can show off how fast he can run, we have quite a few divots. He might even have rabbit in him, he can leap at least 2 feet in the air doing the kidney bean dance at the same time, and it has us all rolling even the neighbors. We are starting doggy classes May 3rd, I definitely need it, I sure he thinks he is doing quiet well just the way he is lol. We are still battling seasonal allergies; he is on an antihistamine from the vet as Benadryl was not doing the trick. His bald spots are growing in nicely. We have been to the dog park a few times, and on Friday met another boxer called Rocky who was only 11 months old but almost twice Storms size, they did have fun. Storm has yet to meet a dog he did not like he is Sooo friendly, and unfortunately not all dogs are the same. We are looking forward to finding actives to do with Storm this summer. UPDATE 4/16/10 - Hi Everyone at SCBR! It’s Storm checking in. Just want you all to know that I love my new family, and feel like I have always been here. They spoil me, but are very firm and believe NILIF. My new family just loves me and is unable to resist my DOG FACE look, even dad who really is not a DOGGY person, worries about me. I got a little cut on my paw the first weekend I was here from all the broken branches and twigs in the backyard from the storms they had ( Heh,Heh, no not me), that he yelled for mom to come and fix me up, it was nothing, just a scratch. Mom said I’ll get use to him; he was the same way with my skin brothers, (panics). Then he spent the rest of the day with little brother raking up all those pesky twigs. I have met the neighborhood dogs. There is a little bundle of fur who lives next door called Diesel, thing is he only weights 5lbs, but has a big mouth when he is on his deck. Funny how when we were introduced through the fence he did not make a sound, Diesel shook like a leaf (more like a weasel) I would not have hurt him. Not too sure about the black lab across the street he growls at me and is always barking. Maybe he thinks he owns the block! He might be bigger than me, but I am so handsome that all the LADIES GIVE ME HUGS AND KISSES AND THE MEN DROOL OVER ME LIKE A MUSCLE CAR. I AM RIPPED! I am having a ball chasing the squirrels, so many! Mom is happy as they are no longer eating their meals on the deck. My morning routine is, outside to do my business, breakfast, chase my tail while jumping up in the air, then play roll the ball with mom, who get frustrated when it goes under the furniture, and she has to get up. This family was tailored made for me just like my skin brothers I also have seasonal allergies. Mom took me to a new vet that gave me a good going over, says my prostate is boggy hopefully the antibiotics that I am on will take care of that, mom has to take me back next Thursday to see. I also have eye drops for my eyes and a spray for me neck which has cleared up beautifully. My hair is growing in on my bald spots as well. Mom brushes me with a glove everyday that I SPARKLE in the SUNLIGHT! My brothers call me a “FOOD HOG”, and “TURKEY NECK.” The food smells so good it just makes my MOUTH WATER, but mom is very careful, she gives me a little extra meat in my food, if I had my way I would eat everything she cooks. Thank you SCBR, Storm UPDATE 4/5/10 - Well... Storm has just completed his first week here in Rockland County! He has adjusted to our home wonderfully and just loves everyone, and everyone loves him. He is such a love, and has a wonderful calm energy. He is no longer my Velcro-boxer, and is happy watching basketball on TV with the guys, leaving me all by myself in the bedroom. Storm cried his first night for about 5 minutes when I gated him in the eat in kitchen with his bed. Now that he know the routine he has been fine. I had to crate him one day for about an hour; he fought me all the way then was fine once he was in. He has gotten over his fear of going down stairs and now is up and down when he feels like hanging out with the boys. Saturday night Storm had the run of the house, but insisted on trying to sleep with his big skin brother, who eventually closed his bedroom door, problem solved! But then his night time wonderings kept me awake. It brought me back to the days when the kids were babies and at the slightest sound I was up. We go out daily for walks and car rides, I love having my handsome boy by my side. One of my son's friend described Storm as my "Mid-life crisis," ha ha. We went to the vet on Friday, he was so good and they all loved him, of course. Vet's not sure if his skin condition is seasonal alopecia, wants us to come back in 2 weeks she measure the patches. I have noticed areas of dryness through his coat. He loves to bring us his rope to play with him, but we have to work with him or running after the ball and bringing it back. He’ll rather play with us rolling the ball between rooms. His nose works overtime when I am cooking, he scares me to death that he is going to get burned, so just like a child he is gated in the family room when I am cooking, so I don't have a heart attack. We are working on Storm proofing our house and remembering safety rules to keep him safe. Foster mom Wendy has been great helping me to adjust and answer my endless question and concerns. I know he misses her and Mugsy. I feel bad for him that he does not have another boxer to play with, but in time. We love him! As I write this he is sleeping on my foot squashed between the coffee table and couch. 3/28/10 - I went to the best home today! 3/25/10 - Storm here... sooooooo ...my hives are gone, my hair is growing back in my bald spots, my nails have been clipped, I get to sleep OUT of the crate at night with the other two boxers here in the "guest" room....(MY room)... I have learned to eat when the food is put down rather than walk away and eat when I want to.... (FM said something about.... "schedule when it goes in... schedule when it come out" - I think its because her "porker" Mugs will eat everything he can get his paws on in one gulp!) ... Anyway... she feeds me Natural Balance Duck and Potato (with some plain yogurt in the a.m). and boy is it good. I'm not too crazy about treats..well dog treats that is... however, I do like the occassional peice of cheese, and since FM thinks I have an allergy to beef, it's easy enough and here's the bonus.. NO labels to read.... Moral of the story..... I'm ready to go, go go..!!!!! You just need to come get me!. Oooh.. I'll even let you put me in a bunny costume for Easter if you want.. 3/21/10 - Storm is doing extremely well . What an awesome dog this is. Today, and yesterday, he spent the day lounging in the sun or playing with Mugsy, my 5 year old male. They take turns carrying the toy and being the one chased. He seems to not have a dominant bone in his body and when my female, who is very vocal growls at him (even playing), he stops and looks for Mugs... As if to say... "hey.... I'll find someone else to play with". He has full house privileges when we are home and away for short periods of time. I do crate him when we are at work for long hours as I have a very dominant female and while they do snooooze all day, I feel better knowing he is safely tucked away in his crate snoozing. I also have a thirteen year old step that comes home mid day who at times thinks nothing of leaving the storm door - ajar. My guys wouldn't think of going near it... not so sure about Storm though, so... as we love having him here... I'd like to keep hjm safely inside until his family comes for him. He is waiting patiently... and often sits by the front door just watching... and waiting. He is a REALLY VERY GOOD boy. He does the boxer kidney bean whenever I come home so much that he folds himself in half. He has enough wrinkles on his head for all three of the dogs here. He isn't really a treat guy, and while he will sit nicely when I give the other two their treats.. he turns his nose up. He does like cheese though ALOT and seems to think that the open refrigerator is an invitation for him to have a look!!. I think he has a food sensitivity.. either protien or a grain or both.... I am putting him on Duck and Potato tonight, which is nothing more than Duck... and .... Potato. 3/17/10 - I just received and reviewed Storm’s medical records. He seems to have had his first bout with “baldness” in May of 2009, which would have been around the age of 2 ½; and then again in March of 2010. Frankly, this corresponds with the age that my male boxer also first demonstrated seasonal alopecia. He is now 5 and hasn’t had any hair loss (other than shedding) this year at all. Likely, Storm will grow out of it. We have noticed some welts on him over the past day or two and it’s either from the change in food, or stress from his “adventure” (read… surrender x 2) over the past weekend. It’s nothing worrisome and we will figure out the trigger within the next day or so. He appears to have had a few canine siblings at his former home which explains his laisez faire attitude and demeanor with my two. He was boarded quite often, for what appears to be weekends, which speaks volumes as to why he doesn’t like the crate so much. I wouldn’t either if I was dropped off at a kennel every other month and left for 3 or 4 days at a shot during my lifetime. If you can give Storm the home he so very much deserves, that lets him spend weekends with you and your family rather than with the vet techs please give this boy consideration. He is a mush and a love and loves physical contact and attention. 3/15/10 – Hi…. It’s me… Storm…. Just came in from the outside and it’s wet… I tried to “zoom” around the yard to dry myself off, but I just stayed wet…. FM said cause it’s still raining… I don’t know… but I LOVE the “zooming” part… I’m like a Mazda… you know.. the car that goes “zoom zoom”. I’ve been having a good time here, but I don’t like the crate… If I sing long enough FM will let me out. I like to make noises that she says are “wookie”… don’t know what she’s talking bout… but I think I’m singin’, HMMMMMMMM… HMMMMMMM…O … O…. Ooooooo. . I do like to sleep with my people and I’ve tried to explain to her that the big bed is the BEST place for a boxer to sleep, but she’s having no part of it and made me sleep with her two boxers (we each had a bed) in the guest room… can you believe that????? A Boxer…. On a dog bed???!!! You rescue people gotta talk to her, cause she’s just crazy if she thinks that’s where perfect specimens of canine belong. C. R.A. Z. Y I tell ya.! I have lots o’ energy and don’t like to sit down too much cause there’s ALWAYS something going on… people moving, walking around…. Going here, going there…. I just gotta see everything. If you like having someone with you…. Always … I’m your guy. I’ll never leave your side… of course when I’m “zooming” in the back yard, you’ll have to keep up otherwise you’ll be eating my dust…Ha! . But… I’ll come back for ya… promise. You just gotta come get me first ! 3/13/10 Storm arrived in NJ today, from New York, in the middle of winds that weatherman are comparing to a “tropical storm”. So I guess it’s fitting. This boy has gotten a really bad deal over the past few days….. his family - who has had him since a pup, apparently has allergies. They found him a wonderful new home with another dog, two humans and unfortunately cats. Unknown to the first family…. “Stormin Norman” doesn’t like cats. They said he was at first okay, and was licking one of the cats obsessively and then became fixated. They were uncomfortable and called us asking to surrender him – since we were expecting Storm from the first family we gladly welcomed Storm into SCBR. He has been here for about 2 hours, has met my two boxers, (one female and one male ) in the wind driven rain, and is right now looking for someone to play with. They, have taken their spots for the night... one on the ottoman, and one on Storms bed…. (she’s the boss), and he’s doing laps. It’s going to take a day or two for him to settle in, but the laps will tire him out for the night. (fingers crossed!) He’s made himself quite comfortable in a short time. For a boy that has been in three homes in the past week, he’s AMAZINGLY happy. Nub is up, ears are perky and all seems well in his world. He is quite the kisser….and has kissed, me, the two dogs, and tried to get my BF.. but he’s having no part of it. Storm is a deep mahogany with a totally black face. He has a bit of seasonal alopecia on his flanks which will resolve as the weather starts to clear and as he spends more time outside in natural sunlight. This is an amazing boxer… just beautiful. If you’ve passed all of your tests with flying colors, and have been given the green light… I would suggest you pick up the phone. He will not be around here too long. |
