11/30/10 - It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Rocco has gone to the bridge. His health had really gone down hill recently. We did all that we could do to try and make him well again. In his last week we saw him loose interest in us and his food. He no longer wanted to go for the short walks that he loved. Rocco loved people and he was a great companion. We affectional nick named him Bud (short for buddy), and he would come to Bud as well as Rocco. In short Rocco was a supper dog, I am glad that SCBR was able to give him a second chance.

11/2/10 -
Rocco has been sick the past month or so and seen the vet many times.  He has recovered from the antibiotic although he still occasionally has some blood in the stool, but nothing like before. The lesion on the outside of his mouth still looks good. However there is swelling again inside the mouth. Also when he went in for his annual there was some swelling in the jaw/chin area. The vet thought that it was an enlarged lymph node and on the antibiotics it went away. A couple of days ago I noticed that it was swollen again, now the swollen area fills my hand.  At this point being over 12 years old and a boxer, we do not have many more options for Rocco and nothing the vet can "fix".  Please keep Rocco and his foster family in your thoughts.

9/11/10
- Rocco here, boy am I glad that it has gotten cooler around here. That summer heat and humidity was not my idea of fun. I like going for my short 10-15 minute walks around the neighborhood. I can't walk too far because my legs get tired and start to give way on me. But  my heart wants to walk farther. Foster mom takes me on 2 or 3 short walks a day, I love this.
I had my annual check up at the doctor's yesterday. I don't know about you but I don't like going there. For one thing their scales always say that you are heavier then your scale at home. The vet says I now weigh 89 lbs. and I need to go on a diet. Ugh! I like my food, can you tell? The other thing the doctor found was that I have an infection in my mouth and have to be on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. I hope this takes care of the problem.
I really am a very good house guest and would be happy just to hang out with you. Are you looking for a loyal friend to hang out with you? Then I'm  your man.

8/5/10- Happy Birthday Rocco!  Rocco turns 12 years young today....and going strong.

6/12/10 - Rocco is still looking for his forever home. He is such a good dog, he always waits for me to go through doors or narrow openings first. To me this is no little thing. I have had to work on this with every dog I have ever had, and it  was not something that came at once, the idea that I'm the boss. Rocco has this down, he is such a good companion. He is perfect on walks no pulling at all. Lately though he has been having more trouble getting up from a laying down position  on my hardwood floors, so carpeting would be better for him.

4/30/10 - Rocco here...Anyone need help with steaks on the grill....I am willing and able to guard them for you until they are done to a rare perfection. Really anything on the grill is fine with me I am not picky. I'm easy to get along with. All I need is a warm bed and two squares a day. I am a loyal companion and will stick to you like glue. Isn't there someone out there who wants some love??? Get your application in and pick me.
Over the winter Rocco developed a pink area on his jowls. At first I thought it was from eating all the fresh snow that he likes so much. When it didn't get better on its own we brought him to the vet who gave us some ointment to put on. It is starting to get better. Rocco continues to be a great dog to have around but he would love to have a forever home to call his own.

2/13/10 - We have really gotten to know Rocco. He is such a great loving dog! When he first came to us, he was a little skittish when you went to pet him. I don't know if it is because he didn't know us or was just not used to being loved, pet, or scratched. Now he loves the attention and will even come up to you for loving now and then.
Rocco is not picky about his food at all any more. I do put yogurt on his breakfast, but he will eat it without just as well. I don't have to put water or broth on it anymore either. Like many boxers, Rocco has some gum over growth and tarter build up on his teeth. I try to brush his teeth weekly and this really helps with his bad breath.
Rocco also had a problem with leaking urine. This was probably from a combination of age and his being neutered. The vet has him on Proin, which costs about $10 every two months. The Proin has helped tremendously and he doesn't have to go out as frequently and stays dry.
All in all, Rocco is a wonderful companion and is looking for a home were his people will just love him.

1/10/10 - Just wanted to explain what Rocco is doing in the snow. We have wood piles in our back yard, in other words shelter for "critters" to keep warm in the winter. In the pictures of Rocco in the snow, he is looking for a "critter", which he never did find. He was so intent on finding it! Rocco loves to just hang out with his people. He helps with bringing the wood in and with shoveling snow. Fresh snow is another one of his favorite things to eat. He will follow me back and forth as I shovel trying to eat the snow out of the shovel. Rocco is a joy to have around. He wants a forever home that is looking for a  loyal companion who is happy just to be with you. Do you need any help with any of your chores? Rocco is waiting to help.

11/30/09 - Rocco here! Boy, do I feel like a changed man! I went to the Dr.'s a few weeks back (Rocco was neutered) and I wasn't feeling so good for a while after.  But now I am running around like new. Foster mom has finally figured out how I like my food...with a little beef broth (or pot roast juice) on the top and I will eat it right up! I am such a good boy, I know that I am to do my "business" in the woods, now if the resident girl could just learn this it would make mom so happy. Foster mom keeps saying she is going to train me on the invisible fence, but she hasn't yet because I stay right with her in the yard and come when I am called. So if you are looking for a lovable, gentle companion, I'm your man!!

10/16/09 - We have found that Rocco is much happier if not crated, which he doesn't need to be because he is the perfect house guest. Rocco is a great companion. He loves rides in the car and go for his daily walks. Rocco got to visit some with some friend's dogs. Some of them liked him and some didn't. No problem for Rocco, if you don't like him that's your problem, he just ignored them. So if you are looking for an easy going guy, he's your man.

9/21/09 - Rocco arrived here yesterday afternoon. Rocco is a gentle older gentleman who just wants to be with people. He also enjoys going for walks. So if you are looking for a loyal companion Rocco is the dog for you.
