UPDATE 5/5/10 - Sorry for being a few days late - Polly is still wonderful. She had her spay surgery in early April and had no issues other than being a tired Polly for a few days. She was quickly back to herself. She continues to bring joy to our home. She no longer sleeps in her crate at night, she now sleeps in Andy's room at the foot of his bed. She dug herself a very nice hole next to the swing set in the backyard and keeps a watchful eye on kids playing on the swings. Most days you can find her keeping court while Stephen plays basketball in the driveway. She'll retrieve the ball if it gets away from Steve. If she is anywhere near the car when the door opens and she thinks she's going for ride and hops right in. Soon we will start her formal training. Andy has done a great job in reinforcing the basics with her. I promise that I will get on the SCBR email chats and supply everyone with pictures. The emails have been a great resource, so much information.

UPDATE 4/2/10 - Polly is doing just great. This girl knows how to have fun! Now that the snow has gone from NJ we have Polly outside all the time with us. She is a speed demon, very fast and loves the backyard toys like the frisbees and balls. Because of the winter storms we have many trees down and she even helped remove the branches, she carries one branch at a time to the curb with us. One time a herd of deer (12 total) walked across the yard - Polly just sat there watching them until the last one entered the yard now it was time to have fun with them. Polly started to chase them into our neighbors yard, those deer were just too fast and Polly gave up, sat down next to Andy who was bringing up the rear. Just to funny. Today Polly spends the night with our vet to have her spade surgery. We are nervous for her and will miss her terribly. Andy and Stephen are packing a bag of her favorite toys to take with her. A few days of rest then its back to fun in the yard. I cannot tell you how many
  times
we are stopped by people during our walks who say they have never seen a boxer with such color and poise. Andy has taught her to give her paw and to lay down. He is a good teacher and Polly is a good student.

That's all from NJ. Thank you for adding us to the SCBR email. The information and communication is great.

UPDATE 2/28/10 - Greetings from New Jersey!
Well here is our second Polly Jean update and she is doing just fine. We all survived, including Polly, her heat cycle which arrived just around the same time Polly joined our family. She is scheduled for her spay surgery during Easter vacation when we're home to help her recuperate. Vet visits are going nicely and she is set for her next updates for Kennel Cough on March 13. We gave Polly her first bath and she loved every minute of it. It was Polly's evening at the spa. Bath, brush her teeth (which she took to just fine and Andy did all the work just like a pro)and a nice coat brushing just before bed. We've had more snow this year, at least 48 inches since just before Christmas so our outside time with Polly has been limited. But Stephen and Polly do go for walks around the block when weather permits. She still leads on the lease but does love her time with Steve. Polly loves all of her toys, especially the ones that make a noise! She holds on to them squeezing down until  it makes a noise. She brings them right to us rests her chin on your leg and squeezes It's almost as if she is saying "ok I'm ready to play". She loves to run after the toy and brings it right back to us. Tug of war is one of her favorite games. She has learned to ring the bell at the back door when she needs go to the bathroom. Very smart indeed. She survived a large family gathering, over 30 people with little kids. Polly was a hit! She did jump on some, but it was all affection! Everyone wanted to meet and see Polly. She loved the little kids and was very gentle. We've scheduled Polly for her schooling later in April after she recuperates from surgery. She loves to dance with Andy and most nights watching the Olympics you'll find Andy and Polly all cozy on Polly's big fluffy pillow. A wonderful sight indeed. By the way we would love to share photo's with the group but don't know how to post them here. Anyone know? Well that's it from snowy New Jersey. Hopefully our next repor  t we will be enjoying the warmer weather.

UPDATE 2/5/10 - Polly Jean is doing just wonderfully. We travelled from New Jersey to New Hampshire to pick her up from her foster home. We left NJ after school on Friday, Jan 29, stayed over night at the Holiday Inn Express in Keene, NH (very nice hotel) and visted with Polly's foster family on Saturday. Angela and Mark were wonderful and very gracious. New Hampshire is a beautiful state! We left for NJ around 11am, Andy our 10 year old sat next to Polly who was in her crate and talked to her all the way home. She travelled well. We arrived in NJ at 5pm and welcomed Polly to her new home. She loved the big yard and all the new toys waiting for her. She did have some bathroom accidents in the kitchen that first day but I guess that's just nerves. That night she slept in her crate in Andy's room and was waiting patiently for us in the morning to take her outside. Our first full day with Polly we had lots of fun with her and her new toys. A few more accidents especially when she encountered  a new room in the house. We're figuring out her schedule. Family came to visit later in the day to meet Polly - she was very friendly and polite. No jumping on people. We noticed on Sunday that she was following Andy where ever he went. One time she sat right outside the bathroom door waiting for him to come out! Monday came and our weekly routine began early in the morning - it was like Polly was always part of our routine. She loves her crate and has her special I Love You heart pillow, a gift from Andy, in the corner and carries it around the house with her. Her appetite is hardy and loves the little treats from Andy. She had her first visit to our vet on Wednesday and she is up to 54 pounds. The vet and his staff were all impressed with her. She was very well behaved and did not mind the examination. She is current on her rabbies and parvo from the NH vet. Her next visit to our vet on Feb 13 she'll get her other shots. We did notice that she had some spotting and her vulva is s  wollen
- our vet confirmed that she is heat. We will have her spayed as soon as her cycle is over. It does not seem to affect her personality at all. We will start her obedience training after her recovery. We visited a highly recommended obedience program here in NJ. We're finalizing the arrangements with the program to start school after Polly's spay recovery. She does pull on the lease so we are careful with her and look forward to help from school. Funny story with the vacuum cleaner - we were vacuuming and Polly started to bark at the vacuum and hit it with her paws like she was boxing. Andy was playing with her last night on the floor and she licked his glasses right off his face. It was so funny. When Michelle sits grading school papers at the kitchen table Polly lays next to her on the rug near the kitchen door. Juliana and Stephen get into the fun too with Polly. Polly is so happy when she greets the children when they come home from school. She loves to play toss and bring back.
In such a short period of time we are now a family of six. We look forward to sharing more fun stories and pictures. And we especially look forward to warmer weather when we can spend more time outside with her. Thanks to everyone with SCBR.

1/30/10 - PJ was adopted today!

1/21/10 -
Jamas has become a real family member.  She has learned all the house rules and she seemed to understand it All in 2 days.  Shes very smart.  She comes when she is called  ALWAYS.  She goes in her kennel without any hesitation.  She still cries though, for about 2 minutes then settles in.  (she doesn't want to miss anything)  All strangers she meets at the door with Boxer wiggles.  I don't have any children that come so I am not sure but she just seems to love everyone so I can't imagine that she wouldn't love anykind of human flesh.  Not to eat just to lick.  She loves to lick and cuddle .She has adjusted to our home beautifully.  She already knows how to give me those Beautiful puppy eyes.  She loves to eat and loves treats. So any new training that's her button.  She is now walking nicely on a leash. She sits and waits nicely at the door to go out or to come in. Jumping on people has decreased.  She's been very good about that.  However when I get her too excited sometimes she forgets. For only being with us a little over a week I would give her an A+.  We will miss her.  She's considered family now.  If you like to laugh, and have alot of love to give Jamas will be the girl for you.

1/14/10 - PJ alias Polly Jean has arrived.  We call her "Jamas".  She gets all excited and almost smiles!!!!! She's one adorable reverse brindle.  Loving and full of Boxer kisses and wiggles.  She's very underweight but loves to eat.  In no time she'll be nice and plump.  She is very curious of the cats but does not chase them.  She is very playful.  Her ride home she just wanted to cuddle. Her first night she cried through the night in her crate but lst night just a few whimpers and fast asleep, she was still sleeping when I woke up.  She loves the other dogs and her and my Myah are running full speed, and having a great time together. She good in the house though once she comes in she settles right in.  Loves attention and she's a leaner.  She'll take all the loving you want to give her. She stands on her hind legs to see what's on the counters and tables but we are working on that, along with her jumping on people.  She wants to please and is very receptive.  We will be seeing the vet for her vaccines and to get a weight on her.  I want to guess--45-48lbs.  Pictures to follow.  She's going to get scooped up quick so get your appliations in.
