UPDATE 8/18/10 - Killer Nik reporting in:  Well, it's 6 months since my Mom picked me up and she is sooooo lucky, of course, I kind of like it here too.  Unfortunately, I just do not like walking on a leash so she has to go it alone in the mornings.  I still have a huge yard to run around in and that keeps us both happy.
A couple of months ago I overheard her making an appointment for me at the vet's, so the night before I decided to give her a reason for the visit.  She let me out and I saw one of those little "black and white kitty's" in the yard, so true to my nature, I took care of it and devoured same.  Now, according to my prior records this makes number three!!!
Well, I had a nice visit with the vet and all the people there who thought I was just wonderful :) I got updated with all my shots plus a Rabies booster.  Noooo problems.
Except for the walking issue eveything is hunky-dory.
Talk to y'all later,
Nik

UPDATE 5/19/10 -   Niki here again,
Well, I've really settled in.  I am soooo well behaved, everyone who visits loves me:) I have to admit, I do give my mom a really bad time when she takes me to walk, as a matter of fact, she wouldn't even take me the other morning, but how am I going to learn if I don't get a chance?  It's not a good situation for me:( My problem is I don't like to be restrained, I have a Halti collar and I spend most of the time trying to get it off my nose.  She's tried a harness and a spiked collar - neither of which keep me in line - there are too many distractions, birds, squirrels, people, other dogs (who are much better behaved than I) all these distractions are basically friendly, I really just want to play.
When I get back home I'm free to run and have a ball so I guess I should just be satisfied with that. Oh well, maybe she'll try again soon and the few times I have to stay inside while she goes out will teach me a lesson and I'll try to behave the next time - hopeahopeahope.
'til then, Niki

UPDATE 4/19/10 - Niki here,
I really like my new home but I still give my mom a hard time when she takes me out for a walk.  I just don't like other dogs when I'm being restrained, however I'm going to try hard to control myself!
I got my certificate from Training class - I did really well. There was a big German Shepard there who apparently didn't like me from the beginning, I don't know why because I'm so sweet :) Anyway, we did a pass by and I behaved beautifully and he must have taken a hint from me because there was no 'talk' between us.
I have a big yard to run around in and chase squirrels so I do get plenty of exercise. I've put on a few pounds too, she feeds me well.
From the looks of it I think I will be basking in the sun for most of the day - we haven't had very warm weather lately so it is a welcome sight.
'til next time,
Niki

UPDATE 3/21/10 - Niki has been here a month and is doing just great.  We are doing fairly well at training class but we need lots of work with the leash, walking.  She does fine in the yard, heeling, sitting etc.etc. but on the street there are too many distractions for her.
Last week-end she entertained her 'nephew' and the two of them got along very well - although I'm sure she was glad to see him go when it came time for him to leave. She wiggled a lot afterward.
Niki loves to spend  her days outside, she wants to come in onlyu for an occasional cookie or a drink of water-with the temperature up in the 70's the water dish remains in the house, but the door is open and after chasing the squirrels she dashes in then is out again.  I have noticed fewer squirrels lately, not that she has captured any but they are more aware of having their peace and quiet interrupted.

UPDATE 2/27/10 - Niki came to her new home last week and is doing extremely well.  She settled in right away and acts as though she's been here forever.  She will not go into the crate and looked at me with an expression on her face that said "no way am I going in there!" I tried coaxing her to no avail, so I put her bed next to mine the first night and she has slept there ever since - no problems.  She loves running in the yard and chasing the squirrels but so far they have outrun her.
She definitely needs to learn how to walk on the leash.  We started training classes on Wednesday and she has learned the lessons that were given her at that time.  Hopefully, learning to walk properly will come as quickly.

UPDATE 2/25/10 - Niki is doing just great.  She has settled in very well from the first day.  She wanted no part of the crate so her bed was placed next to mine and she slept right through the night.
We had our first training session yesterday and she came through with flying colors - by afternoon she had 'down' just pat.  She needs to learn how to walk and not be too aggressive to other dogs, but each time it gets better.  Hopefully by the end of the sessions she will behave just as she does inside the house.
Niki seems very happy here and I'm enjoying her immensely.

2/18/10 - Niki has been adopted!

2/13/10 -
Niki Is doing great! I'm surprised that she is still here. She is very sweet. This girl is very loving. Niki has been here for just over a month and she has warmed up nicely. She plays well with Casey, our family dog. She does well being left out of the crate. I let her stay out when I took Casey to the vet, and she did fine. She was a little lonely, but did ok.  This girl is awesome.

2/7/10 -
Hi everyone, Niki here.  My foster mom took me to the vet last Monday to have my lump removed and everything went ok.  I was a little out  it but now I'm back to my old self. My foster dad plays with me a lot.  I also know some commands like sit, give me paw & other paw, lay down, and  outside.  I am also very sweet.  I'm looking for my forever home so please come and get me, you won't be disappointed.

1/31/10 -
Hi everyone.  Niki is  doing great.  She is a sweet lady and will be going to the vet tomorrow to get her lump removed from her lower stomach area.  This girl is funny she loves flashing lights that move!  She loves to give you kisses and looks to please you. She just does not do well with small pets like cats, small dogs, and ferrets. She  will be way too rough with them.  Get your applications in now, she  will go fast !

1/9/10

She knows some commands like sit, give my paw, give me other paw. she is not crate trained, but with a little biscuit she will go in. She loves to give a lot of kisses. She is a sweet girl. I know she will not be here for long before someone adopts her .
