UPDATE 9/11/11 - Mugsy and I had our one year anniversary yesterday. We celebrated by taking a nice walk on Macworth Island with his new Golden Retriever puppy friend. Mugsy is doing very well. He had surgery a week ago to remove a growth on his chest. The test results have not come back yet but his cut is healing nicely and his stitches don't seem to bother him any. I haven't even had to use the Elizabethan Collar to prevent him from chewing them. He gets them taken out tomorrow so hopefully that goes well.
The only other update I can think of is that he learned to swim this summer. He absolutely loves the water! I started by throwing a stick out for him (not too far in case I had to go in and save him!) and letting him fetch it. The first few times he fell over his head he freaked a bit and did a very funny frantic doggie-paddle to get himself back to shore but he soon figured it out and swims like a champ now! He'd probably swim all day if he could!
He continues to have some anxiety issues toward other dogs he does not know while walking on his leash. We still go to Fiesty Fido class weekly to try to work through his fear. He is progressing slowly. Peanut Butter sure helps!!

UPDATE 3/10/11 - Today is my 6-month anniversary with Mugsy! He continues to be a fantastic companion. Last weekend we went to the dog park and he got to run for miles and meet lots of new dogs. He was very well behaved and playful with all of them. One woman passed us on a pair of cross-country skis and he was fascinated by them - he tried to follow her and her dog in the other direction!!
He is becomming a little bit bossy in the neighborhood and tries to bark at some of the dogs but I have discovered that he is just fine when off-leash. It must be a leash issue for him. We will have to practice his leash manners!
Mugsy remains very healthy and happy. He can't wait until spring so he can be outside more often. His favorite thing to do these days is to sneak downstairs at night to lie by the heater! I don't blame him :)
Anyway, thats it for our 6-month update.

UPDATE 12/10/10 - We hit the three month mark! Mugsy is doing great as usual. He passed his obedience class last month but could still use some more leash work! He thinks all dogs we pass on our walks want to play with him so he tugs quite a bit trying to say hello.
Mugsy is one smart doggie. The other morning I came out of the shower to find him in the hallway chewing on a a new rope toy I had bought him and placed in a gift bag under the xmas tree! I do not know how he knew it was for him but he didn't touch the other presents. He simply opened up his own, ripped off the tag, and started to play! It was hard to reprimand such a funny scenario!
Not much new to tell. He continues to be full of wiggles and always ready for an adventure!

UPDATE 11/10/10 - Mugsy has been with me for two months now and is doing great! He is a fantastic companion - always a bundle of wiggles, loves to cuddle, and is very protective of his master! His new favorite thing to do is to pounce on every single leaf that we pass on our walks. I think he thinks they ae squirrels! Today he is at Camp Bow Wow for the day. We continue to go to obedience training on Wednesdays so having him spend the work day playing with other dogs and getting rid of some energy is very helpful in our evening class! Thats about it for today's update. Back again in one month!

UPDATE 10/9/10 - Mugsy has been with me for a month now and is such a happy boy! He has settled in very nicely here. He has so much energy and loves to go for long walks. Last week he got to go to Camp Bow Wow on Wednesday and he received "5 paws" for exceptional behavior and getting along great with all the other dogs! What a tired boy he was when I picked him up after work! He also went to the vet for the first time a few weeks ago and received a clean bill of health. Everyone just loves him and thinks he is a beauty! He has made some friends in the neighborhood - a Boston Terrier and an English Bulldog - and gets so excited when he sees them outside! We started obedience classes two weeks ago. He was overly excited and did not concentrate well on his manners but he is getting better each day. His leash work is getting better slowly; especially now that we have the Easy Walk harness! Well, he is definitely a wonderful addition to my home. He is laying on his bed right now and keeps lookin  g up at me to come give him some attention. So, that's all for now. Another update next month!

UPDATE 9/17/10 - Mugsy has been with me for one week now and he's been a perfect angel the whole time! He never exhibited any signs of separation anxiety or timidness from day 1. As soon as he said goodbye to FM in NH, he jumped in the Jeep and sat-tight for his ride to Maine. Upon arrival at his new home, he explored each room on his own and once satisfied with all the new smells, he joined me in the kitchen for his dinner. What a good boy - already knowing to sit and not eat until told to do so! Then it was time for my dinner and he just vegged out in the living room, never begging or trying to counter-surf! The first night was a low-key night for Mugsy - he happily followed me around and went for a walk around the neighborhood. The next day, Saturday, we ventured to the back cove for a long walk. He quickly learned to heal on his harness; however, I soon found out that he needs lots of leash training when it comes to not pulling every time another dog passes! Poor Mugs just wanted to pla  y with everyone and no one wanted to play with him! Mugs went on lots of walks all weekend and was very well behaved for the most part. I did learn; however, that he does not like to be groomed! It took three of us to hold him steady for his nail-trimming at Petco on Sunday and I have yet to convince him to get into the bathtub! He has his first vet apppointment tomorrow so perhaps the vet has some good ideas for me! All week long he was very good while I was at work. He does not like the crate so I have let him have free-range of the downstairs of my house while I'm out. He hasn't chewed anything nor had any accidents (yet)! He has made lots of friends in the neighborhood (both dogs and people) and spent a few hours playing with my father's lab one night this week. He was a bit too rough with her though so they had to be separated for a while. Well, I could go on about Mugsy's past week for quite a while here but I must get back to work. Overall he's been a great dog and seems to b  e very happy and comfortable in his new home!

9/10/10 - Mugsy has been adopted!

9/6/10 -
During this past weekend Mugsy had a great time making new friends. We went to a Labor Day party with some of are friends and there dog Maggie. Mugsy and Maggie became quick friends and played for 2 1/2 hours straight!!! He was also very good with all of are friends. He didn't jump or bark once!! Mugsy was pooped the next day but he was very happy to get a chance to make a new friend. We are working on walking together, he still pulls a little but is getting better with every walk. He is such a good boy and loves to be hugged and pet on the head. He is also very good at sitting and staying when we are coming in or out of the house. He does not try to get out or bark when you are leaving.

9/1/10 -
Mugsey has been with us for a couple of days now and is even more loveable!! We are starting him on dry food and his tummy has done great, not one issue. From what we have seen over the past couple of days, Mugsey is a "pleaser". He loves to make you happy by listening to your commands and being a good boy. Mugsey loves to have is belly rubbed when he is playing with his ball. Things are very comfortable with him because doesn't act up, jump on the couch or bark. Just the other day we were in the backyard playing ball and my neighbors' dog came out side and started to bark at Mugsey. He stopped and looked at her then when right back to playing with me. He didn't even give her one bark back. What a good boy.

8/29/10 -
Mugsy comes to us from an owner who surrendered him because he's too spirited for her arthritis. He lived with another dog and a 10 year old child. The owner says "cats are afraid of him", but they didn't have any in the home. At the home, he slept in his crate with the door open and was used to spending time alone during the day. His owner said he's a sweet boy, loves to kiss and loves to play- everything a 1 year old boxer boy should be!
Today is Mugsey's first day at his new foster home and he doing great!! Mugsey is a very well behaved puppy. He knows how to sit, lie down & stay. Even with the long car ride he had today he was still the biggest sweet heart when we met. Mugsey is very gentle and very very loveable. It is incredible he well he listens to commands, we are very luck to be his foster parents!!!
