| UPDATE 4/10/10 - Moose is well settled in as part of our family. He no longer needs to be in the same room with us all the time, though he does prefer to be with us most of the time. He'll go outside on a nice day and lay in the sun while I stay in the house.
He continues to be wonderfully affectionate with our girls and he gets much love in return. He likes to go upstairs while they are playing and hang out with them. We were walking 4 miles every nice day until I sprained my ankle this week, so Chris is going to take over with some shorter walks until I'm healed. Good thing we have a big backyard for him to run in as well. Moose is getting along great with our next door neighbor's yellow lab and they have started playing together while the kids wait for the bus. He is eating great now that we have started mixing in some canned food with his dry food and he is putting on some weight finally. We will be starting obedience training in another week or two. He's a good listener for the most part but doesn't know how to do somethings like lay down from a sit! He goes to his bed when told, i.e. if we're eating and don't want him at the table with us. He listens well if told 'no' and walks great w/his harness. Moose is doing great with the cats, he doesn't bother them at all any more and puts up with the occasional swat our older cat gives him. We are still working on the separation anxiety, which is tough because I don't go many places each day (I work from home), but we're working on it. Moose is loving life and we're loving having him as a part of our family! UPDATE 3/22/10 - Oops! Sorry I'm a few days late! Moose is doing great. He has exhibited some separation anxiety when left alone last week. He chewed two doors. :-( We are taking big steps back in that area and will not be leaving him alone for a little while. He was not supposed to have any separation anxiety, but he had always lived with other dogs. I've done a lot of reading and we're going to progress slowly there. I work from home and have lots of neighbors, family and friends who have agreed to keep him company if we need to go somewhere until he's worked back up to being left alone. He is doing very well with our cats and we no longer feel we need to watch him every minute. He is a love bug with all of us, including our three girls who love their regular kisses! Thankfully Moose loves riding in the car because we are taking him pretty much everywhere until we work through the separation anxiety. He has had fun playing with our neighbor's dog and my sister's boxer (a SCBR dog from 9 or 10 yrs ago!). 3/13/10 - Moose has been adopted! 2/22/10 - Moose arrived here yesterday as a owner surrender. He is great! Very happy and frendly, Loves the resident dogs here, Loves the boys and gives great boxer kisses,He got right up on the couch and layed with them. He had a five star spa treatment and is now squeeky clean. His ears are good and toe nails trimmed. He is very handsome. We went for a walk with the harness, (that was recomended by a very good friend of mine) It is a wonderful tool. He walked right by my side with no trouble. We even got chased down the street by one of the neighbors yip yappers and he just kept on walking like " ya look at me im a cool boxer boy". He likes toys and seems to entertain himself, but loves to play and box with the dogs here. He did seem sad at first, I was sorting laundry and he was just laying on the floor, I said Moose and he jumped right up, I told him I knew he got a raw deal but he was going to be just fine. He isnt a fan of the crate but goes in with out a sound. We are going to let him sleep up stairs with us tonight and see how it goes. So far he is a great boy. He needs to be neutered and brought up to date on shots then he will be allready to go to his forever home. Hes a love bug and wont be around long. He is a moving target so I'm working on some pics. |
