UPDATE 9/7/10 - Molly has adjusted well to our family and to the routine. She is very lovable and has learned that she doesn't need to jump in your face and knock you down to show her love. She is also learning not to jump on guest to receive a hello. Our only problem right now is that she loves to run away. She has managed to do this three times. We walk her twice a day for at least 30 min. I am hoping that obedience training will help the situation.

UPDATE 8/9/10 - Molly is adjusting well to our family of four. Since there is always someone coming and going because we all have different time schedules she is rarely left alone. She also gets excited when each family member finally arrives home. She is also adjusting to the parrots and rabbit. She no longer feels that she needs to chase them to play. She has learned to walk really well on the leash without pulling. She is getting better with informing us when she needs to potty. She needs to work on not jumping on visitors. Obedience training begins Sept 13 and she will no doubt master that.
She has a visit to the vet tomorrow where he will check her stitches and rash. I got her a harness for this visit since she loves to jump. She is very obedient, smart, and affectionate. My family and myself are very grateful to have molly in our lives since we loss our beloved Samson last year, after 10 years.

8/1/10 - Molly has been adopted!

Molly spent some time up at my mom's boxer camp while I was traveling for work...she was in the company of 3 10yr old boys and girls, my two, and another spry youngster about her age. So glad my family is used to a lot of dogs, makes my life much more affordable. Molly took a three hour ride to get to grandma's and she was a perfect passenger. I did put her seatbelt on her just in case she got squirmy but she didn't - not even a peep. I know Molly spent more time in her crate than she is used to here at my house but I didn't hear of any complaints. My mom is a big crate advocate...crate to eat, crate to sleep, crate to nap after eat, but in-between they get the run of the house and grandma's bed. Molly doesn't wait for an invitation - as soon as she walked in the house, she jumped right up on the bed and made herself comfortable next to grandma, until it was time to go outside and play. She spent most of her time playing with Marvin and Apollo [all close in age], exploring the barn and laying in the dogs room in a pile of boxers at grandma's feet while she played solitaire. The only thing she was missing was her bullysticks - those are her favorite and she chews through them like water.
I've never heard or seen Molly resist her crate but she does have a habit of not wanting to come in the house until she is ready. If she gets truly persistent, all I have to do is put the leash on her and she comes inside on her own. Found out Miss Molly has allergies which is why her skin was so raw - getting better but still itchy. She is taking a generic Zyrtec 1x per day until the itch goes away. I'm not a fan of mom's vet but I didn't want her to stay that itchy until I got back so she went to see him for immediate relief. When Molly has her spay appointment on Thursday, I will speak to the doctor about it and see what the cause is.

Some updates on Miss Molly: Molly is a sweet, sweet girl with oodles of energy to spare. She is also very smart - mastered the doggie door in ten minutes. She does know sit and paw, takes treats oh so gently and we are working on stay and wait. Molly is a bit of a counter surfer but doesn't take anything, a simple OFF and she's down. She does jump on people [and doors] so that needs some work but good news is she so light, she doesn't knock you over. If she was any bigger, you would absolutely need to brace for impact. Actually her standard greeting is to plow into you and give kisses. Molly gets very whiney when you leave but its still early so I'm not certain its separation anxiety or if its just the newness of it all. She is also a chow hound and will eat every bowl of dog food in her path. Molly is great with kids - I have tween boys as neighbors and they love sitting outside the fence and petting all the dogs. She hasn't barked at them once, or the neighbors as they walk by the fence. I live on a busy corner so that's no small accomplishment. She hasn't yet seen the toddlers in the house behind me but I think she will do fine once she does.  Oh, and the cats- I'm going to mark that as good. My cats aren't fans of energetic dogs but unlike Marvin, when the cats yell at her to go away, Molly does. She chases them just to see them but wouldn't hurt them.
I introduced Molly to Marvin and Sasha and it was great. They're like a little happy family...They play together, sleep together and even eat in the same room in separate corners with out any problems. My inside joke for Molly is that she is a boy trapped in a girls body. She's always mounting Marvin - hopefully that will stop once she is spayed - but she is also a very aggressive playmate. I can say without a doubt she would never hurt another dog but she might sound like she will. It's just her play sounds. She's a very grumbly, noisy, come-at-you-quick-as-lightning boxer with endless energy. She would great for any dog her size or larger who needs someone to burn off excess energy with, but she might intimidate some of the small dogs. Even so, the good thing about Molly is if you tell her to take it down a notch and chill, she does. Very good listener.

I picked up little Miss Molly yesterday as the shelter was closing. Still getting to know her but I think she will totally fine with my dogs. As of now, they have only met through their crates and the backyard fence but all seems good - no grumbling, nubs wagging. I'm going to keep Molly rotating in and out of her crate and introduce them tomorrow but I did have Marvin and Sasha gated off in the kitchen today when Molly was out and, again - all good. I can tell you she rides very well in the car, is very sweet, very generous with the kisses and is a tiny little powerhouse. She's petite but very lean and solid. Looks like she has been well taken care of but we do need to see the vet for some itchy red toes, tushy and muzzle...she has been in the shelter for the last 3 weeks so it could be something she picked up there. Little Molly pulls a lot on the leash and needs some basic manners, and does make herself comfortable on the couch. She's a cute bouncy little package with that zippy, skittish boxer energy, and very snorty :)
