| UPDATE 12/24/11 - Hi Everyone, This is a hard update to write. I had Mercedes tumor tested & it was positive. The Vet was giving me such a high price for removal & then said she would more then likley have to go to Boston for radiation treatments after at over $500.00 a wack. I took Mercedes for a second opinion & they believed she is unoperatable. We are enjoying our time we have together. She is so spoiled I hve been feeding her about anything she wants ( she is over weight) A little rolly polly, But we don't care as long as she is comfrtable & happy she will be Loved & spoiled ROTTEN! I know we are running out of time but I thank God every day for the time I still have & the wonderfull past year with this great little girl. My only comfort is I know she is very happy & has been Loved as much as possible in this last year of her life & that's what it's all about. Even through all the heartache of these last few months I would do it all over again because she will forever be in my heart & I
in hers. Thank you Second Chance you people are the best!!! UPDATE 7/23/11 - I'm usally earley on my updates but this time I'm late, We had a terrible set back. Mercedes has breast cancer. I truley panicked & had a melt down! She is the best little old lady at 9 1/2, she don't look or act her age. She is my clingy lap dog. It's great being a at home Mom with a dog that has to be touching every min. she can. The vet price was $100.00 to asperate it & now another $370.00 to test to see if it is operatable & at least $1200.00 to remove if it can be done! I live on a very low income I have had lumps taken out of my previouse boxers before & it was no where near that much. I had a BIG yard sale & raised a good amount [not enough] but it's a start. She is going in for testing next week so say a prayer. Somehow we will get through this. This girl deserves the best & I'll try my best to give it to her. UPDATE 2/6/11 - Mercedes is doing great, I see improvement in her behavior. She is with me most of the time sometimes Aunti Pam baby sits. Mercedes is fine if she is with someone. Does not do well left alone. On the rear occation she is alone she is in her kennel, she used to have "accidents" in the kennel however now I think she is more confident in knowing Mom wont be gone for long & always comes back. So there is no more accidents in kennel or in the house at all! Yeah Mercedes!! I really Love this little girl. She minds well except watch the trash bin or unattended food. She is getting much better at it. She is not pulling food off the counter or table. For a tiny little girl she loves to eat. Great in the car, when I first got her she had 2 "accidents in the car when left in there for aprox. [no more] then an hour. I think its like the kennel thing shes was just afraid she would be left there for a long time. That problem seams to have resolved also with much needed love & confidence knowing I will always be back soon. Thanks again for allowing me to provide a Loving retirement home for my Little Girl. UPDATE 1/3/11 - Hello Mercedes is doing great. She is such a love bug! I'm glad she is tiny [40lbs] full grown because she is always on my lap. She is learning some manners a little at a time. I'm very proud of her. Still can't trust her near your plate but oh well I just eat fast. She doesn't like to be left alone, she gets into some things & leaves a surprise for me however I knew all this about her when I got her & I think she is getting better. We are taking baby steps. Mercedes just loves people. I had an overnight guest Tasha when I transpoerted her Mercedes played in the yard with her but inside Tasha [3-x Mercedes size] was to stay away from Mom! So I think she Loves me as much as I love her L.O.L. I got Mercedes a nice dog bowl with a bone painted on the inside bottom, I filled it with water & watched in amazement at she kept putting her whole face in the water? Then she took the paw & was trying to pull the dog bone out of the water poor little goof bug thought it was real. I got rid of the bowl so she didn't dround herself. She is a joy & will be here for life. Thanks for bringing us together. UPDATE 12/7/10 - Ok I'm a day earley on Mercedes 1st week report, But I'm just so proud & happy with her I can't wait. Its been only 6 days & She only had 1 accident in the house! She is so smart & has already learned that when Mom or Auntie Pam [my sister who rents a room from me] is preparing our food she has to stay out of the kitchen, She sits right in the hallway door leading to kitchen also when preparing her food she has to sit & wait until I set the bowl down as opposed to jumping & / or diving for it half way. She is such a little food Hog! I don't know how she has kept her girlish figure L.O.L. Every night when I sit in my chair watching TV she is right on my lap sleeping. The first night she slept just about on top of me [ afraid she might lose me?] But now she is confident & lets me have my own space on the bed. The first outing we had to run errands she was so happy & excited to pull back into the same yard at Her House. My almost 4 year old Grandson was here for a few nights & she is great with him. I think she already knows she's here for life. She was having stomach problems when I first got it [nerves &/or the meds for worms?] However her last day was Sunday for meds & she now seams to be fine. Again Thank you so much for bringing us together. She is loved & spoiled! 12/1/10-Mercedes got a little bit of bad news today from the vet--she DOES have some worms--whipworms to be precise. So I picked up her medicine and she'll need to take that on her food for the next few days. And that should take care of the worm problem. And we hope that that will also take care of her loose stool problem. Poor thing has even had diarrhea! Not that anything have affected her appetite. For a little munchkin she likes to eat. Finally got a friend to help take a photo of this little girl. Yup, that's me holding her for her picture taking. Otherwise, she is just too wiggley for me to get a good one. 11/24/10 - Well, tiny little Mercedes charmed everyone at my Boxer-loving Vet's office. And everyone agreed that she is the tiniest Boxer they have ever seen. Everyone also agreed that (despite her being a Purebred) her size makes it look like somewhere a Boston Terrier added some genes, but also agreed that that made her even more adorable and adoptable as she is SUCH a little munchkin! Mercedes was brought up to date on her shots, is heartworm and Lyme disease free, has no fleas or internal nasties, and sailed through her her spay. The Doc commented that she did have a large uterus--equalling lots of puppies--but that it went well, and she did well under anaesthesia. He cleaned her teeth and removed two rotten old molars. Her breath smells better already. (Her eating couldn't get any better than it already is so I don't expect any changes there.) He checked her urine since she does drink a lot and pee often but said that there was nothing wrong, or out of the ordinary for an aging dog. She has totally settled in here, and she and Rocky are doing fine together. At three times her size he doesn't know quite what to make of her, but her size is just right for her. She has discovered the dog bed in the living room and the couch, and loves to cuddle. I'm happy to report that she sleeps in the crate next to my bed all night long without a single peep--and even into the morning so that I can sleep! She's learning some of the other rules around here, and hasn't had an accident in the house since her first day. SO...if you're looking for a Boxer that not only thinks they are a lapdog but IS, here she is! 11/21/20 - Teeny, tiny Mercedes has arrived in Maine. The Riverview BoxerHostel is happy to welcome her--she looks like she needs some TLC--especially the "love" part. Mercedes doesn't respond to her name right now but came to my "happy voice" calling her. She has eaten a nice dinner, and smelled every inch of the house and the backyard, where she finaly decided to go pee like a good girl. Some nub wiggling at Rocky through the baby gates, but until we get an OK from the Vet healthwise (she has quite the snorting going on) there will be no up close and personal contact. Mercedes needs a spay, all of her shots, a heartworm and fecal done, and a few seriously enlarged nipples checked out. So we will be off to the Vet as soon as he can squeeze us in. She is reported to be eight years old. And probably is--but for a miniscule girl she had no trouble leaping over the baby gate to join me in the computer room! In a single bound she was up and over! She also needs a bath, which she will have tonight. I've already changed her collar to a clean one, and one that has my identification on it. Not that I think she would, but she is so little that she might be able to fit under my fence! She was an owner surrender that lived with two kids (9 and up) and another male and female boxer. She got along with the male boxer great, but did fight with the female when she was in heat (both unspayed). They did not have the time or room for Mercedes anymore and contacted us to help. More to follow on this sweetie soon. |
