UPDATE 9/9/10 - I write this update with Luna Bella lying across my feet! She always has to be touching a human or her buddy, Youkilis. She remains an absolute joy to have as part of our family. She has a healthy appetite, loves to play, and is just so darned affectionate!
Unfortunately, Luna has another mast cell tumor on her other ear now. It is quite close to her head and will need to have her entire ear removed this time in order to get clear margins around the tumor. Poor baby!!! It is in such a  place where blood will be unable to get to the rest of the ear and keep it alive. We are holding off surgery right now as the biopsy showed that amount of mast cells is low and have not increased in just over a month. Otherwise she is as healthy and happy as can be!

UPDATE 7/15/10 -Luna has healed!!! It was a long recovery period, but Luna pulled through like the trooper she is. Luna has adjusted so well to the family. She and Youkilis are inseparable. They share everything -so cute to watch their antics! It is almost as if she never got the chance to play and act like a puppy until now. She still sleeps in bed every night between my husband and I with her head on the pillow like a baby. Neither of us minds because she is such a love! Even the cat likes her and lets Luna kiss him! Can't believe Luna has only been with us for 4 months. It feels like she has always been a part of the family.

UPDATE 5/3/10 - Luna had a second surgery last week to attempt to reclose the incision from the tumor removal on her hind quarters. The initial tumor was so large and so deep that they was literally not enough skin to close up the wound completely. No one's fault except her former owner who should have had it removed long ago instead of letting it go. However, he hadn't removed the stitches from her spaying 4 months earlier so what would be expected? Her ear has healed beautifully and the stitches should come out today. She looks so cute with her new little ear! Luna's care has continued to cost an unexpected fortune, but we love her and know it is not her fault that she fell through the cracks of the adoption process. She is happy, and we are happy with her and that is most important.

UPDATE 4/3/10 - My husband flew from Boston to Niagra Falls to pick Luna up from her wonderful adoptive parents, Bob and Debbie. She made the 8 hour car trip home in the worst rain that New England has seen in years! She immediately adapted well to her new surroundings. From what we understand, she originated in sunny California and now calls seasonal Massachusetts her home.
Luna bonded well with our other Boxer, Youkilis.  They are inseparable now and can often be found giving each other kisses. Luna plays wonderfully with children. She enjoys playing in the backyard with the kids while Youkilis can be found sleeping in a lounge chair! She is such a little lady and has earned many nicknames...Luna Bella, Luna Buna, Mrs. Wiggles. She loves affection and her whole body shakes when she greets you.
Luna seems to be well trained and only had a few accidents upon her arrival. The torrential rains probably had something to do with that. She is a pleasure to walk on (and off) the leash as she does not stray from your side. She follows simple commands without question. Instead of attending basic obedience class, there has been talk that she will be placed into the advanced obedience class. We are so proud! Luna had her first spa treatment after her arrival and LOVED it. She was a perfect lady and let the staff primp her to perfection! Like Youkilis, she thinks she is a person.
She has also won the hearts of the staff at the veterinary clinic. Unfortunately, Luna has some cancerous tumors on her body. We are awaiting surgery for her but know in our hearts that once they are removed she will be a healthy girl again.
We are still in touch with her wonderful adoptive family by phone and email. They are planning a trip east and will be by to visit Luna during their vacation. That is what a special girl Luna is! We cannot imagine life without her now. She has claimed all of our hearts.

3/14/10 - Luna has been adopted!

2/26/10 -
Luna is a gem.  A real sweetheart!  She is loving , happy and not hyper at all. She is pretty mellow for her age.  Not a jumper. She loves to be around people and other dogs.  Luna shows no dominance or aggressive behavior.  She loves to cuddle and kiss and lick.
We has her only a week and she fit right in with my two spoiled female boxers.  Luna follows around my older female, Cece, a lot.  She learns from her and admires her.  Cece doesn't mind to much, she just doesn't like to play much in her older years.  Anyhow, the three girls are great together.  They all just get along.
Luna could be a great family dog with or without other pets.  She could also make a great one on one pet.  but either way, she is just a perfect baby to have around.  Pictures and more later on.  Stay tuned for this cutie....she's worth it.

2/25/10
- Luna has arrived in her foster home!!!  What a sweet little boxer she is. She can't weigh more than 45lbs.  She is mellow and not a jumper at all.  She was recently spayed, and she is bit bony.  She needs to gain some serious weight.  When she was fed dinner tonight, she ate like she was never fed before.  And boy did she drink water.  A lot of water.
I will update on her tomorrow and hopefully take pictures. I will include top box as well.  I just met her this evening after I got out of work at 11pm.  She was given a bath earlier this evening, because she didn't smell so fresh when she was picked up. She is resting now by the fireplace feeling all clean and with a belly full of food. I also covered her in kisses and she loved it.
She is very affection and not hyper at all.  A loving, gentle sweetheart of a dog. She has already stole our hearts!!
