UPDATE 8/27/10 - Lucky is doing better than ever. He graduated from obedience classes, and now is completely house trained, and can sit, say, lie down, and come. He got neutered about two weeks ago, and had a very smooth recovery. He was very brave! He loves this local dog park that we go to, and always is very sociable and pleasant to the other dogs. Lucky is as close to perfect as you can get.  I am so blessed to have him in my life.

UPDATE 7/21/10 - Hello again! Lucky is doing wonderfully! He is now 55 pounds and not yet six months old. He is a healthy, growing boy and an absolute joy. We have been in obedience class for the past 3 weeks, and Lucky is a standout. He has patience, focus, and determination that everyone in the class notices. We are currently working on sit, down, stay, and loose leash walking. I just found this great dog park just five minutes from my house, and I have been taking lucky there as much as possible. It has many fields for him to run through and plenty of other dogs to play with. Lucky loves everyone he meets and everyone loves him! I don't think either of us has ever been happier!

UPDATE 6/22/10 - Hello again! Lucky is doing better than ever. We have only been together for a month, but it feels as though we were never apart. He has had two vet appointments so far, and he is healthy and gowing 4 pounds a week!! By the end of this week he will be 50 pounds!! I LOVE watching him grow, and I pick him up when I can because I know next month I won't be able to! We begin opbedience training classes next tuesday, and I have a feeling these will be very valueable to us both. He is such a joy to be around, and I don't think I have ever laughed this much!!

UPDATE 5/25/10 -   I am amazed at how quickly Lucky adjusted to life in Maine. He seems to be loving everything about it, and I love everything about him. Lucky is an absolute joy. He is doing wonderfully with the house breaking, and we are working are other simple commands as well. We start obedience training on June 22nd, and I'm sure that will do the trick. I took him out to our summer island off of Casco Bay and he absolutely LOVED it! There were so many other dogs to play with and lots of places to run and play with no care to worry about. We just moved into our new house in Portland, Maine and I think he already feels at home. It is just the two of us living here at the moment, but my brother and his dog (who Lucky adores) will be moving in in a couple of weeks. Everyone who meets Lucky comments on what a wonderful disposition he has, for he has so much love and compassion to share. Last night I was upset and he ran right over to me and started comforting me in a way that no one else co  uld. He is so well tempered, and everyone's life is enriched after meeting him! We will send more updates soon!

5/22/10 - I was adopted today!

5/12/10 -
Lucky Puppy made his way to the vet last night with his foster dad. Of course he was sweet and well behaved. He had his first puppy vaccine and a check up. He is in fine health other than having roundworms. He had his first treatment yesterday and we have the needed meds for his next 2 treatments. The vet seems to think he is a boxer/mastiff mix the vet tech seems to think Great Dane. Seems safe to say that Lucky is a mix of boxer and either of those breeds. The vet said "He is going to be a huge dog", like we didn't already know that! Since I bring my own dogs to the same vet (all 3 adopted from SCBR) the vet wasn't sure if he was recently adopted by us or a foster. When he learned Lucky is a foster he seemed a bit upset we only fostering him. The vet said he is a REALLY nice dog! The vet also said once he starts putting on weight it is going to come on in a hurry!
Lucky is doing well on housebreaking and is getting better everyday. He adores everyone he meets and plays well with the other dogs. Lucky takes care of my 10 year old boxer by cleaning his ears and licking his face. It is so sweet and Lucky seems to get that Jamie is too old for him to rough house with... smart pup!
Lucky is very eager to please and seems to pick up on things quickly. He is not a bad chewer and very quickly drops anything he is not suppose to have when asked. He will grab an occasional shoe or flip flop but considering his age he had given us few problems and most importantly has left the furniture alone. Lucky eats like a horse but shows no signs of any food aggression. If I put my hand is his bowl while he is eating he just wags his tail. If I move his bowl when he is eating he just lets me take/move the bowl and wags his tail. It is really amazing how Lucky just kind of goes with the flow.... nothing seems to bother or upset him. He is going to make a special family very happy!
PS Just now Lucky went to the door and pawed it to let me know he needed to go out! Such a SMART boy!!

5/6/10 -
Lucky Puppy made his way to SCBR yesterday thanks to a wonderful, kind animal lover that saved him from an owner that didn't like him! Big thanks to her for helping Lucky! She was taking a walk with a friend when she saw Lucky tied up in a yard, his owner was nearby and she commented on what a beautiful pup he is. The owner told her if you like him, take him I am tired of him pooping all over! There was a bit of a language barrier but she was told he is 3 months old and a boxer. Of course she saved little Lucky from the man that didn't seem to like him. She took him home and contacted SCBR. I met her yesterday to pick up Lucky, he is a very big boy (approx 25 pounds) and is most likely a boxer/giant breed mix. I think Great Dane, but he could possibly be mixed with Mastiff. Anyone interested in adopting him should consider he could easily be a 100+ pound dog. Whatever his mix may be he is an awesome, awesome puppy. Much more mellow than a purebred boxer of that age!
Lucky has settled in here as if he has been here much longer than a day. He plays nicely with the 3 resident dogs and happily greets every human he meets. We are working on housebreaking but he has only had a few accidents which is to be expected especially as he adjusts to our routine/schedule. If he was "pooping all over" it was simply because his owner didn't let him out. He is great in the crate and kept it clean all night. If the other dogs don't want to play with him he just gets a toy and goes to lay down and chew on it. When he is tired he goes and finds a spot to lay down. He is not one of those pups who is afraid he will miss something of he naps.
Lucky's tail wags so fast his hind legs swerve side to side. He is a happy little pup who acts like he has never had a bad day. Luckily needs a family who is willing to help him grow into a great family dog and who realizes that training a puppy takes time, patience and a good sense of humor! Lucky goes to the vet Tuesday evening to be checked out & vaccinated. After that he will be ready for his new home!
**NOTE: Because I am a puppy, I will need someone who is home most of the time like work-at-home, retired, homemaker, etc.
