UPDATE 7/30/10 -   Lily has adjusted very well and now met all the family (kids, grandkids)and is loved by all. Our 2 1/2 year old grandson calls her: "my big doggie" while draping his arm over her shoulders. She is slowly, but surely getting over her insecurities and wants to meet new visitors sooner rather than later. She also is beginning to bark more to alert us. Her arthritis is being managed w/glucosomine and an occasional dog asparin. We are now getting back to our daily walks. On a personal note, we love her dearly and she has done well in training US to meet her various wants and needs. She has a lovely wardrobe and a selection of collars w/matching leashes. Obviously not important to her, but it makes us feel good - she has brought pleasure to our lives and I highly recommend the experience to older couples who have the time and desire to give and receive love.

UPDATE 4/17/10 - Lily has adjusted very well. She follows commands excellently. We just started private training for two commands: "stay" and "come immediately". She is a very good pupil. Also working on her shyness (fearfulness, non-aggressive).I have learned how to get her to feel more confident when strangers come to the house. We have a daily routine that she follows implicitly and we love her. She is very affectionate and loves to go for walks (every day) and also loves to run like a race horse around her big yard. Next week we are going to the park to see her interaction w/other dogs and children.

UPDATE 3/28/10 - Lily has adjusted very well. She has her daily routine down pat. She is well behaved and walks well on a leash. She now has come to look forward to our daily walks and misses them when the weather doesn't cooperate. She has become playful and loves to do laps around the back yard. We look forward to the summer and her reaction to the increased backyard activity, especially the pool.  She still is shy when it comes to strangers, mostly men, but appears to like children. She will meet new people on her own terms which is to slowly approach them and sniff when she is ready to do so. She is definitely the princess in the house and likes it that way.

UPDATE 2/27/10 - Lily has adjusted very well. She knows her limits and is very good about letting us know what she wants and when she wants it. She insists on sitting on my lap (all 65 lbs. of her) and sticks to me like glue - although she is getting over that a little bit. She is very neat w/her food and finishes it all. She has been thoroughly checked out by her vet and is doing well. She had a mild ear infection in both ears, but we were able to clear it up very quickly. She is very good about being treated. I had to clean her ears out with a special solution-soaked cotton ball as described by our vet. One night I was treating her ears and, following the directions, swabbed out her ear. However, I lost the cotton ball and panicked that it was in her ear canal. We rushed to Emergency. End of story: no cotton ball in either ear, later found on bathroom floor. Next time I wore my glasses! Lily was a perfect lady throughout the ordeal. She wakes us up each morning by blowing in our face and  will NOT let me sleep beyond 8 am. I try to take her for a walk every day, weather permitting, which she now asks for by barking at me. She is very skittish of cars and sudden noises so I have to be very aware when we are walking. I hope to get into an obedience class in March to re-inforce and learn some new behaviors. She really is very good and listens better than any kid I ever raised! I introduced her to two of my grandchildren (10 & 14) and she was very sweet to them.  am looking forward to her meeting my 2 1/2 year old. She takes her time warming up to people. It has to be on her initiation which is fine we us. She is polite and curious and eventually comes around.  Needless to say - we love her.

UPDATE 2/4/10 - Lily is adjusting well. While she is still shy and skiddish around men, she has become a very loving companion to her new mom. Each day she gets closer to her new dad which is helped by him feeding her  and allowing her to go to him to sniff and now pet her. She has the run of the house and is very obedient. She gets to go on long walks almost every day (weather permitting) with mom and also has a new suede coat to keep her warm on the frigid days. We may work with a trainer, one on one, if her shyness persists, but she needs at least two-three weeks to continue her adjustment. While she is reticent to people coming to her home, she is nevertheless curious and will slip into the room to observe. She had a complete checkup at the vet's and is doing very well, except for a mild yeast infection in both ears which we are treating. Lily is in her "forever home", to be sure.

1/31/10 - I was adopted today!

UPDATE 12/20/09 - Lily "Island Dog" is doing great, I'm surprised Lily went so long without being adopted.  She is perfect for our family. she has been playing with all the kids inside and outside. We got our first snowfall of the season today.  Lily loved running thru the snow with the girls.  Lily adapted so quickly with us. within one day it was like she has always been here, she even loves my husband.  They get along wonderfully. (we were told she didn't care for men) not the case with my husband.  Her tail is always wagging, she plays with her new toys, I really think she loves it here, and yes we love having her. So far she sleeps under our bed, I have no idea how she fits but she insist on going under, she likes to take alot of naps on the couch. we will be starting obedience training on Jan 4th,09.  Her license has arrived in the mail yesterday to put on her new pink black dog collar.  We are trying to schedule a vet appointment after the Holidays just to get a check -up and get her  on the books.  We took Lily for a walk in town last monday which was day one with her. She was little nervous but did great.  She has met what we call the neighborhood head honcho. he is a 5 lber (if that) toto dog (cant think of the breed right this minute). he runs around the neighborhood to who ever is out and plays with them. so far all they have done is looked at each other from across the road.  I think jack sensed that he needs to give Lily more time before he comes over. Lily is very gentle with our 20 month old, she really is perfect for us. My daughter Ashley who is 5 is in love with Lily. we didnt tell her we were getting a dog until the night before, but the funny part is she was asking us to call her Lily for the previous 2 months( she said it was her favorite name and to call her Lily)so when she found out we were getting a dog whose name was Lily was amazing.  Lily wishes to thank all the people from second chance boxer for helping her find the family she has been wai  ting for, She is so happy we picked her especially now right before the Hoildays, She says she got her christmas wish come true and that she needs nothing from Santa because she has the family she asked for....However I know that Santa has some pretty nice gifts for her including a new bed, crate that the side opens (very cool looking), raised feedind bowls, and many toys.  It really is like she has been with us forever, she acts like shes been here all along, she's very happy, she smiles and wiggles like crazy when anyone of us walks thru the dog. Again thank you second chance boxer. talk to in Jan after classes begin

UPDATE 12/15/09 - It's only been 2 days and Lily is doing great here in her new home.  She even likes my husband ( we were told Lily is alittle shy and nervous around men) but you wouldn't know that if you saw her with my husband, she has even given him kisses already. Lily was ready for some play time this morning before the girls went off to school, playing with her new stiffed moose.  She really has warmed up to all us quite quickly!!  She sporting a new pink black dog collar from "the Black dog Store" well known on the island. Lily is fitting in wonderfully. tail wagging in all,  asking to be pet, wiggling. She seems very happy and so are we.

12/13/09 - Lily has been adopted!

12/10/09
Lily has been so much fun to have back here.  She is doing much better as she came back a little depressed.  She has found a new ball that she will play with by herself until it goes under the sofa or a place she can not reach.  She will then whine until I get it for her and after so many times I tell her it needs to go back in the toy box.  Also I have learned she loves flannel sheets. She will snuggle to the bottom of the bed and then only comes up when she realizes she can not breathe. This girl really does have a wonderful disposition.  You know you want her....just call -she is waiting for you!!

11/18/09 -
Lily had to come back to us because the two of the children were allergic to her.  She was so loved by them and are terribly upset.  Lilly loved the kids and followed them around and even would switch rooms on who she would sleep with each night.  They said she fit into their live style within the short week she was with them.  Hopefully her next home will be her last.   She so deserves to have a family of her own.

"My two week vacation from Foster Mom" By Lily
Well my vacation came to a pleasant end when my foster mom picked me up on Friday the 23rd.  If that was a vacation, then what is work?!?  My temporary Foster Dad was great, a little scary at first, but he calmed down and let me alone until "I" was good and ready to let him take charge.  I must admit he was fairly gentle but very strict with the rules: sit , stay, heel, come.  But I showed him, as long as he gave me treats (love those hot dogs) I did all the actions he ask me to do!  Even in that scary school with all the other dogs looking at me! I showed them!! I wasn't afraid and could do the heel, sit, and even the long stay when old F.D. left me sitting by myself and walked away and finally called me to come to him...I did it immediately..right to his arms...he looked really proud!  He gave me free run of the house when he was gone. I was a good girl didn't mess anything, just watched the squirles and rabbits in the yards.  I almost got the rabbit-boy are they fast!! Foster Dad even took me to the dog park, which was okay.  I was just getting the play thing down.  F.D.'s neighbor had a fun fur friend and we played alot in the back yard.   I think I'm ready for my forever home!! I'm a little scared, but excited!  So give a call and lets see if we hit it off together, I'll be you best friend!

9/20/09
I was lucky and won a raffle of three sessions with a dog behaviorist, so Lily and I took advantage of it and had our first session this Saturday to deal with Lily's shyness.  Lily really benefited from this one session.  Normally when visitors arrive Lily runs and hides.  Well, we have been working on a word and action and today we had a visitor and Lily was taking a treat and was all wiggles  from her within two minutes in the front door.  What a huge difference it made and Lily loved having the new friend.  She was not stressed at all.  I can only image what a few more sessions will do.  Lily is waiting for you.   Please think about giving her a forever home.  If you do, she will give you her forever heart and she has a heart of gold.

8/28/09 -
Well it is Lily's birthday today and she has decided to act like the puppy she is.  She finally took her first toy and ask to play with me.  Lily is such a sweet girl who needs someone that will take the time to let her become the loving dog that she is.  She needs the time to feel safe.  Do you have that kind of love to give her?  You will get the best dog.  I promise.

8/14/09 -
Lily has settled in and has not skipped a beat since her romp in the woods.  In fact, she seems less stressed then when she came to me.  Lily who tolerates the car slept like a baby on our way home.  I was a little nervous with her trap experience that she would not want to go in the crate, but just a few treats from the draw and there she was sitting in the crate waiting for me.  Yesterday we were out for an evening walk when my neighbor walked by with his toy poodle and Lily was a little alert but we walked together home and Lily was fine. Lily keeps asking me "where is her forever home"  She is waiting for you to pick her.  Love her.  She will give you so much.  Pick her --Love her.....please..

8/11/09 -
Well, as you know I am new to this whole rescue thing.
When my foster Mom needed to go out of town she made arrangements for me to have a "sleepover".  I got there bright and early Saturday and FM dropped me off and went on her way.   I was in my crate for a while and the lady came and took me outside for a potty walk.  I was checking everything out and enjoying myself when
all of a sudden here comes this big meanny dog after ME???!!??!
Naturally I was frightened so I ran.  He caught up to me and grabbed me by my neck and was tugging me around.  His mommy was trying to get him away from me.  When she did I ran for my life!!   Across the busy road and down into some bushes.  I ran and ran and ran!   I crossed back ove the road and now I was near the river I had been near when this whole thing started.  BUT, I couldn't get across back to where I started.  I could smell it and see it but the river was too wide and I didn't know how to cross it.

So, For a few days nobody knew where I was and I was VERY hungry...
I saw some deer and they seemed to be doing OK so I followed them around.  We found some nice quiet places to sleep, and to get a drink of water.

One day I was getting a drink of water and some people in kayaks saw me from the river.  they brought me some DELICIOUS kibble to eat.  Well, I ate some and saved some for later...
Meanwhile the people in the kayaks called the SCBR people.  It seems that I am well loved and there were SIGNS EVERYWHERE and people going FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE looking for little ol' me.  Can you IMAGINE?!?!?!   I MUST be special!
So when the SCBR ladies came to look for me they could find my food (and poop) but they couldn't quite find me.  So for a few more days they came and fed me morning and night.  They waited for me to show up but, I was afraid and didn't come out even though they called and called me.  They decided that a TRAP was needed.  A man from BOSTON offered to come and bring a trap.  However, the SCBR lady knew the ACO and got a trap from her today.
She came with her husband and they set up my food and blankie inside the trap and then they left.  About 2 hours later the lady was watching thru binoculars to see if I had come to eat yet...well the TRAP went OFF and scared the PEE OUTTA ME!  So I cried and cried and cried.  The SCBR lady and man came and got me out of the trap and brought me home to their house.  The big meannie dog wasn't there ANY more (PTS).  So I got into the shower with the lady and now I smell very nice.  I am sleeping in the biggest doggie bed I have ever seen.  I had some dinner and some Ice Cream too!
My foster Mommy said she will come for me on WEds.

I came home with a bit of a limp in my hind end and I am going to see Dr Lambert tomorrow.  I didn't have any fleas on me and no ticks that anybody could fiind..
I was the mosquito buffet though and I have lots of mosquito bites on me.
I actually look VERY good, I lost a few pounds but, I just look even better in my fur coat now.

The SCBR lady said it was time for a drink.
I got a nice fresh bowl of water and she got a cocktail.
Apparently, I'm not old enough to drink cocktails?!?
She said something about poison IVY?  But, I don't have THAT!

Well that was plenty of adventure for a sweet couch potatoe like me.  I am going to dream of Peticures and facials and soft fluffy pillows!
But, before I go off to DREAMLAND;
I want to send big kisses and wiggles to my foster Mom, Beth Giacomini, Lorie D. and Nancy Lawson for spending time searching for me.  Everybody else, Thanks for keeping your paws crossed and wishing me safe home.
I Made IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, If I can find a forever home after all of this I would REALLY love that!!

7/26/09
Lily had to have her nails clipped so I opted to take her to Pet Smart and thought if I
got there earlier before all the dogs came out, but there was already two dogs getting groomed when we arrived.  Lily acted like a perfect little girl.  We had to wait so in the meantime another dog
walked into the room and Lily again did nothing.  She just sat there then got on the table and had
her nails clipped.  The reason I am writing is to let you know that you can take Lily out in public and not worry about her being aggressive towards other dogs.  She would just assume stay by you.  I think she is more afraid of the other dogs.

7/17/09
Lily here, thought I would let you know that my FM is thrilled to have me here.  She is really getting a kick out of  me and my antics.  I don't really understand it, but when she has to go out she gets this certain bag of treats out and I immediately go into the crate and wait for them.  I not sure why she gets so excited and tells me what a good girl I am because I know, if I don't go in, I don't get the treats...She is so silly...  Then we had company last weekend and again FM was nervous for me but I was fine and the company loved me. Today we  did something called a
home check ad well, okay, I might not be the best at this, but I thought I did alright, but FM thought I could have been a little friendlier.  I must say on my behalf, I did take a few treats from them, I did not make a mess out of their home, but the Dad was pretty tall.  What's a girl supposed to do, take treat from just anyone??  I think they want to adopt from SCBR but I don't think I would be their first choice.  They want a more energetic one and I am a more laid back kinda of girl...oh well, FM tells me all the time that "my family" is out there and I just need to wait for them.  Hey, could you hurry and  choose me.  If you give me time, I will melt your heart.  FM tells me that and I believe her..she does not lie.

7/10/09
It has been almost two weeks since little Miss Lily came to make a pit stop here and to
wait for her forever home.  She is just the sweetest girl.  I have learned that she is a little bit of a
Sarah Burnhart as she will whine and talk to you if  you wait to long to feed her or let her out to
do her business.  It is really funny.  Lily is very low maintenance.  Just give her a bed near you and she is set for life.  Her papers show that she was taken from her mother at 6 weeks and I feel that is why she is a little nervous.  We had workers outside the house this week and she was not  happy and afraid they were coming in to get her.  It took a firm command to lay down for her to finally settle.  When I left for work, I put her in her crate to feel safe.  She walks right in now and waits for you to come home.  Lily's only real issue is that she needs to be your one and only ... Please give me a call if you have any questions or concerns.  Lily is waiting for your call.

7/1/09
I know it has only been a few days  but I wanted to keep you posted on Lily's improvements and her personality so far.  She is a very quite well mannered dainty girl.
She has started to settle down on our walks as she was very nervous the first couple
of days but had a great walk today and even ventured away from my side to sniff and
checked some smells.  We encounter a few dogs today and she was very good.  No
barking or any aggressive behavior.  She just wanted to make sure they were not coming
after her.  I just kept walking and redirecting her to keep walking and she did.  We had
a lot of first today:  My first kiss, she picked up her first toy, and she walked into her crate
today.  She is fine in her crate as when I come home she is just lying there and waits quietly
for me  to let her out.  If you are looking for a  laid back girl Lily is for you.  You will
just need to give her time to warm up to you.  I see improved day by day.  She really is a very
easy girl.

6/28/09
- Lily arrived today and, after a small meal, she is resting by my feet.  I was told that she takes a little while to warm up to people, but if you ignore her she will eventually come up to you (especially men).  She loves to snuggle and sit with you.  She loves children, but does not tolerate other dogs.  She loves to go on walks, but I not sure she was taken in the car a lot as she did not really settle down at all on the ride here.  Lilly was surrendered due to  some medical problems with her human family.  Their wish for her is that she finds her perfect family to love and give lots of hugs and kisses.  Are you that home?  I am positive Lily will blossom into a loving confident companion for you and your family.
