| UPDATE 9/27/10 - Lexi is doing great!
I was very worried about Lexi adjusting to her new home and family. The first night and next day were very hard for me to watch. Lexi was affraid of everything. Any new sound sent her into a fright that she would not snap out of for a while. This was at home and also on walks. The third day was a little better at home but still the same on walks. The fourth day was her real turnaround. I think that she realized she was in her new home and not a temporary location. When i came home from work she had the wiggles. Since that day her walks have been better. She still gets afraid at new sounds and sights, but she isn't as frenzied in her reaction. Every walk she is improving and i am sure with time she will be as wonderful on walks as she is at home. On saturday we took Lexi to my mother in laws house. We brought her crate and set it up in a bedroom that was out of the way. After a long walk when we tried to get her into the home she was very apprehensive, until she saw her crate. After being in her crate for about two or so hours she was comfortable enough to come outside and play with us. There were about 10 people at the house and two little girls under the age of 4. When Lexi was outside she had the time of her life. She played very nicely with the kids, running around them and never touching them, and very patient when i told her to sit so the children could walk up and pet her. She was an absolute delight and the life of the party. Lexi is very healthy. We switched her to new food right away. Her stool hardened up a little. . . but isn't as solid as i think it should be. No other problems have come up. No obedience training yet. We cover our couch with blankets and have to readjust them to keep the couch covered. One day i lifted up one blanket and shook it out and placed it back on the couch. When i was done Lexi looked at me and used her nose and paws to push the other blanket so that it covered the rest of the couch. 9/19/10 - I was adopted today! 9/8/10 Just want to give an updated on Lexi's car manners. She rides wonderfully in the car. Not a peep out of her. She stays put in the back seat. I usually use a seat belt but I wanted to give her run of the car to see how she was. When I stopped and got out of the car she stayed put. Once going she laid down either on the seat or on the floor. She paid no attention to strangers that came up to the car. She really is such a good girl. I also want to tell you when we come in the house she immediately sits right down and lets you take her leash off. Even when we come in with no leash she still sits on the rug by the door until you give her the okay. This will be great during the winter months or rainy muddy days. It will give you a chance to clean her before she messes all the floor or rugs in the house. I can not take credit for this. 9/3/10 Lexi continues to grow more and more confident with each day that passes and will now settle down and have a nice snore. She also loves to watch over the place and has a nice deep bark, but I am sure would run and hide if someone came in the door. She barks at the UPS man but then runs to the couch and hides. She really is funny. With this unbearable heat I have not been able to take Lexi in the car with me to see how her car manners are. We are hoping with the break in the heat this week to do just that. We will keep you posted on that. This girl is very low maintenance. 8/28/10 Lexi wanted me to tell you just how much she enjoys being outside. She loves to go in the yard or on walks. So if you enjoy the outdoors, working or relaxing in your yard or loves to walk or go hiking she will be a great companion. 8/26/10 - Lexi has been here almost a week and she has been a dream. She is a very timid girl. Maybe she was taken from her mother too early. She is starting to come out of her shell. She is so funny. When she hears someone outside she will bark and then jump on the couch and hide. Her bark is nice and deep but if anyone comes in, she runs to her crate. With time I bet that will change and she will find her courage. She loves to snuggle with you --I think she likes to hear your heartbeat. When we go to bed watch the news, she snuggles and wraps her paws around me, but once the TV is off she jumps off and sleeps on her bed. She gets up when we get up. She walks beautifully on leash no pulling at all. We have encountered numerous people with and without dogs and she just keeps walking by; no barking and pulling to get to them. It is very peaceful. Could Lexi be the one for you? if so, call and I'll tell you all her other secrets. 8/18/10 - Lexi comes to us from an owner who surrendered her because working to make her get along with her other four legged sibling has been unsucessful. Lexi will need to go in a home without another dog. She is a very timid girl who takes a little time to warm up to you but, once she has her time, she is a sweet loving pretty girl. So far her life has been pretty stressful - being seperated and crated most of time. I know there is someone out there that will give this girl a peaceful, loving, home life. This is what rescuing is all about. Pictures and more updates to come ASAP. |
