UPDATE 6/7/10 -  Leroy is doing great!  We took him to a specialist in Maryland for his knee and it turns out it wasn't a torn ACL but a bad knee sprain/strain.  He is still going to physical therapy for the next 4 or 5 weeks. He is walking (being very stubborn about it) on a treadmill in  a water tank and swimming.  Also doing strength exercises at home and back to agility and obedience classes and doggie daycare once a week.  He loves it! He and our other dog Tootsie are getting along fabulously and play all the time! He has finally gained some weight (now weighs 41 lbs) and his coat is starting to get a great shine.  He keeps getting taller and is almost as tall as Tootsie (she is a year older than Leroy and she weighs 55 lbs.)Even though he was thin and small when we got him, I think he is going to be bigger than her-- He is great in the car and takes everything in stride! We love him so!!!
He passed his "STAR PUPPY" last month and his  level one obedience training and we are going to sign him up to take the Canine Good Citizen test on June 19th.  Even if he doesn't pass, it will be good practice and he can always try it again when they have it at our facility again next year. He is now enrolled in the level two obedience class and is doing really well.

UPDATE 5/13/10 - Leroy is such a sweet and happy dog. I have been feeding him 3 times a day and it is finally paying off----he has gained about 2 lbs each week for the past 4 weeks. He now weighs about 38 lbs. About 2 weeks ago we found out that he actually did have roundworms even though he had been re-tested when he was neutered and it had come back negative.
>
> Two weeks ago my husband came in the front door about 7pm and Leroy came off the chair (he didn't even jump) and stood on his hind legs to greet my husband and he slowly came back to the chair. For the next hour he "wookie" talked which became a whine and then a howl. We had to lift him off the chair and when we put him on the floor he would not put any weight on his left hind leg--he cried all night. We took him to the vet first thing the next morning and he diagnosed it as an ACL injury to his knee---4 weeks crate rest, no climbing stairs, no running and no jumping. We just got him use to really liking his crate so both my husband and I have been keeping him quiet every minute of the day out of the crate when we are home! You can imagine what it is like to keep two boxers from playing now that Leroy is feeling better! I took him to a physical therapist after he rested it for the first week. He is doing water therapy on a treadmill submerged in water, laser treatment!
> s and strength exercises at home. He has gone two times and the physical therapist feels his strength in that leg has improved alot already--she feels it may be a partial tear. We are hopefull that he will recover soon and will be able to continue with his activity at daycare, obedience and agility classes. We are keeping up with his strength exercises and added some supplements to his food.(Leroy went to agility 2 times to try it and he had no fear of any of the equipment --- he had a ball!)
>
> He is very well behaved and a joy to have!

UPDATE 4/7/10 - It has been about a month since we picked Leroy up from his foster family.  He is doing great!  He and our other dog, Tootsie, are getting along fabulously (she even lets him take a bone away from her while she is chewing it!).  He had his neutering and was on medication which really threw his intestinal system for a loop----. But we are working on that and fattening him up as well (he is still very skinny) He is going to "daycare"( I call it playtime) on wednesdays and he absolutely loves it!  I asked them how many dogs were there last week and there were 38!  The facility is so clean, quite large,  uses all positive reinforcement, works on basic training(being polite)when the dogs are there, and all the people that work there are so wonderful. We are so lucky to have them! All the dogs have to go for an "interview" to make sure they are "social" before they are allowed to attend. Leroy is doing great in obedience training as well.  He is so attentive!  When we practice at  home and I tell him we are "done" he barks at me as if to say---Let's keep going, I don't want to stop! Leroy is going for his first agility class tomorrow. I am so exicted to see how he will react and if he likes it.
I am glad to say, he has improved emensely going thru doorways and getting in and out of the car.  He use to "put on the brakes", so to speak, if he was unsure and we had to coax him to us but now he knows that getting in and out of the car and thru doorways with Tootsie means having fun so he even tries ( our car is still to high for him to jump out of)to come to the edge of the seat and attempts to jump out.
Well, we are tired, keeping both dogs busy with training and extra activities and making sure Leroy is feeling secure and safe and relaxed in his new home ---working on the potty training, etc but it is definately worth it!  My husband and I are having a ball!

UPDATE 3/12/10 - Leroy has settled in very nicely with our 18month old female boxer, Tootsie.  They met last sunday and have been doing fabulously ever since.  They play all the time and are doing nicely sharing toys. I have started some clicker training at home and he is picking it up very fast!  He knows the hand signals for sit, stand, down and touch and stays nicely on a rug when we are eating ( of course I have to toss him a few treats to do so). He will be starting sheduled obedience classes next week. He does get into trouble though so we are constantly watching him at all times ---like trying to jump up on a short cabinet that is in front of my living room window!
He is not housebroken yet so he needs to go out all the time. I am hoping he learns that fast as well. He is not use to walking on a leash so he "puts the brakes on" contantly and we have to get him excited to come to us so he moves forward.  He  also has an issue with going thru doorways for some reason so again we either have to get him excited or I have to have Tootsie come back to get him, then he follows right behind her. That's about it for now---will update next month.
