UPDATE 11/22/11 - Layla has been with us for a year and apart from a few problems with leaking and some separation angst she is a happy well adjusted and healthy dog.  She does well at the shop greeting people and loves her neighborhood human and dog pals.  She is active and full of fun.
Layla is excellent with children and is generally kind and friendly with everyone she meets.  She appears to be an excellent judge of character and if she does not respond to someone positively we pay attention.  She guards her home and notifies us when visitors are coming.
We consider ourselves lucky to have such a fine dog buddy, and we hope to have her around for many more years.

UPDATE 5/28/11 -  Layla has been leading a comfortable and relaxing life.  Last night she decided to take up hunting and got a face and leg full of porcupine quills.  after a late night trip to the vet and $360 in vet fees, she seems to be feeling much better.  I hope this will be her last batch of quills but every dog we have had usually gets a second batch before they learn porcupines really are not fun.
Other than the quill incident layla has been doing quite well.  Her urine leaking problems were solved with hormone pills twice a day and she seems to have no other health problems.  She has been very good about not jumping on people at the shop while still providing an enthusiastic greeting to everyone.  She notifies us of all visitors.  She is always ready for long walks. She  shows up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  She takes magnificent naps often with her legs straight up in the air.  She has had few episodes of grass eating and  upset stomach.
We couldn't ask for a better friend.  thanks for a wonderful buddy.

UPDATE 1/28/11 - Layla has settled in very well and acts like she has always lived here.  She loves to sport and play with the young black lab girl net door.  She goes to the shop every day we work and greets each customer personally.
Layla seems to have no health issues.  She sleeps, eats, and exercises with great energy for a seven year old.  I don't think she knows she is not still a young dog.  We enjoy her speedy runs - almost like a racing dog.  We have never had a faster boxer with as much endurance as she has.
Layla is a kind and loving dog with very few bad habits.  She did eat a dozen unattended cookies one day and has been known to bark at strangers (whle wagging her stub) but that's as bad as she has been able to manage.
We love layla and kind of consider her to be lucky's younger sister as they seem to have much in common.  Thank you for a very special friend.  We love her very much.

UPDATE 12/28/10 - Layla has settled in at home and the shop nicely and is fun to have around.  She loves to sport with rosy the rescue golden from up the street at her house and like lucky loves lee the bone man next door to lucky and layla's antique shop.
Layla has taken to all of lucky's favorite resting spots - particularly in front of the wood stove now that winter is getting serious.  She doesn't really seem to like snow a whole lot but likes to run up and down all the paths I snow blow.  I think its ok outside in the snow except when really cold or windy - she heads inside quickly then.
Layla if she had lyme disease has shown no symtoms.  Other than a few stress related accidents when she first got here she seems very healthy and well behaved.  She is a very kind and loving dog who is a joy to have around.  We couldn't ask for a better friend.
Nancy and I have been working on her lease behavior and teching her not to jump up on people when greeting them.  She responds to direction very well and is making progress every day.  We both love her very much.

UPDATE 12/5/10 - Layla is a vert energetic active dog.  Nancy takes her with her for a 1-3 mie walk every morning the weather cooperates.  Layla usually has another 1 mile walk around 3 pm and several trips out for the usual during the day and evening.  She has settled into her new home very well and has proven to be very clever (she doesn't eat her dog snack until we finish dinner in case there are treats.  She has been very good about taking her lyme medication (when wrapped in cheese).
Her first few days there were accidents in the house but that stopped.  I think it was stress from going to and out of her foster home so fast.  She goes to Lucky's antique shop during the day and has taken over Lucky's job as greeter.  She is very friendly but needs to work on jumping up on anyone who gets excited to see her.
Layla is a a kind and friendly dog with a lot of pep.  Nancy and I both love her.  She loves to play with the rescue goldens down the road.  She is a little intimidated about going outside after dark outside of the lighted area in our front yard.  She may have already encountered wild animal poop.  Overall however she has had an excellent first week.

11/28/10 - Layla has been adopted!

11/20/10 - Layla had her urine sample delivered to Dr. Matt yesterday and he called back with good news that nothing was found to be wrong in her urine, just seems to like to drink alot of water.  She lets you know when she needs to go out and she will sit when coming inside off the line to get leash off, so smart. Likes to shake paws for treats and is very generous with her Boxer kisses. Very smart and well behaved a real keeper. All Layla wants is love. She had tested positive for Lyme so he gave her pills for this. All up to date on her shots has been spayed and ready to go to her forever home....

11/18/10 - Layla saw Dr. Matt today and so far we found out that she is Lyme positive. I need to bring in a urine sample as she drinks excessive amounts of water. He was going to update her shots and until he gets her sample there is no telling if something else is wrong. Please stay posted....

11/14/10- Layla made it!  Layla is a very sweet Dog, she made it into her foster home at suppertime last night. She is very smart, friendly and just wants to be loved and pet. She wants to be with you. She is microchipped.  So far she has made friends with our daschund Cuddles and everyone in the house. She is very clean and has been well cared for. She slept in the kennel last night with no problems. More later as we get to know her better.

11/13/10 - The new Boxer Girl Layla is now safe and sound with her Foster Family.  Well Miss Layla is one sweet little girl.  She's a beautiful flashy fawn girl in excellent shape.  She has some white on her muzzle but other than that you would not know she was 7.  Kind of petite.  She loved my Granddaughter Maddisyn who is 9.5.  She was all wiggle butt and kisses.  She was very very gentle taking a treat.  Great in the car.  She would poke her head up front every so often and give us kisses.  I had the last leg of her long transport and she was a dream. Hope she is enjoying a nice evening with her foster family!

11/13/10-Layla was surrendered by a family who took her in as a favor to someone who was having some medical issues. She was suppose to go home, but now the original owner can not care for Layla.   Her current home does not have the time or money to give Layla what she needs so they contacted us.   For the past 6 months she had been living with four kids aged 4 and up and was great with them.  They said she is very lovable and she just wants to be near someone all the time. Loves being touched. She is a good girl and she would be a great addition to anyone's home.
NOTE- SCBR WAIVES ITS TRAINING REQUIREMENT ON DOGS AGED 7 OR OLDER.
