UPDATE 7/10/10 - Gus continues to settle in his new home. He has a habit now of taking one of my wife's shoes and moving it to a different room of the house but not chewing  it. Gus graduated from his obedience training a few weeks ago. As part of the last class there was a mini obedience olympics. Gus has struggled with making extended eye contact, but he actually won this contest. I was so proud. He even beat out an Australian Shepherd in this event. He also did very well in being let off the leash and coming when called. The instructor commented on much progress he has made.  It was so much fun.  My eight year old twins really enjoyed cheering him on. We are  having a lot of fun with him.

UPDATE 6/10/10 - Gus continues to be a pleasure. He is a bit of a hound though. He loves to did  in the mulch in the beds around the house and has made himself a comfortable place to rest under a tree. We just finished our fourth obedience class and he is progressing nicely. He does well with most of the basic commands. He did tug when being walked and switched to a head harness (gentle leader) and it was quite a sight when he first had it on.  He looked like a bucking bronco. He is doing much better with it now. He loves to ride in the car and he and our nine year old female are the best of friends. He did however meet a nice young lady a t obedience class that he has took a liking to. All in all Gus has been a wonderful addition to our famaily.

UPDATE 5/9/10 - Boy how time flies! Gus continues to be a joy. Everyone that meets him loves him. We have a  couple of young nieces( 2 & 3) who love him to death. Their parent's say they talk about him all the time and want to know when can they play with him again. He is so gentle with them. He starts his first obedience class week, not that he needs it as he is so well behaved. He also does great at a party.  We had about 25 people at our house on Saturday for a first communion party and  he got a lot of attention and was very comfortable amongst all the chaos. Everyone remarked how lucky we are and we agree.

UPDATE 4/17/10 - Gus has been with us a week and it feels like he has always been with us. He listens well and is the best mannered male in our household. Human members included. He gets along with our senior boxer and they play so nicely together. He has made himself right at home and loves to snuggle on our bed every night and boy does he snore. More to come next week.

4/10/10 - I was adopted today!

4/3/10 -
Gus got a clean bill of health from the vet and is recovering well from the neutering.  What a loving dog with such a great personality.  He demonstrates a healthy balance of independent and human time that is remarkable for a young guy.  He loves to be outside (we are working with him on a good balance of that too, because he would stay out there all day, if you'd let him), and is so funny, either sitting surveying the yard, doing laps trying to catch the birds, or playing, he has really come into his own this week as he becomes more trusting of his environment.  In the morning and at night, he is such a little nuzzler!  And be careful if you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, you might just return to bed to find him curled up in your spot!  He listens so well.  Still needs some work on stay, but is very attentive and willing to learn!  He is waiting very patiently for his forever family!

3/24/10 -
Hi, this is Gus.  Now that I’ve been at my foster home a few days, I thought you’d like to know how I’m doing.  It was difficult at first because I wasn’t sure why my surroundings changed, but I think it’s safe to say I’m adaptable.
My foster family has a 9 yr old female boxer.  Her name is Sadie.  She agreed to show me the ropes around here (like where the toy box is, what part of the fence to go to see what’s happening in the neighborhood, which food bowl is mine, stuff like that).  She is even helping me get used to my crate, which I don’t have to be in a lot, but sometimes.  This crate must have been hers once, because today she just went in there and took a nap!  I guess its not so bad.  I am very respectful of my older counterpart and when she grabs a toy away from me, I just go get another one!
I’ve already impressed my foster family with my 2 yr old training.  I come when I’m called, I sit, lay down,  shake and speak.  I am house broken.  I sit patiently when my meal is served or being offered a tasty treat!  I’m not a jumpy boxer, but sometimes when I’m playfully excited I do.
I feel pretty healthy, but just be sure I’m going to the doctor soon.  I guess I’m going to get neutered, whatever that means, but my foster mom said I won’t have to stay overnight at the vet, so I’m happy about that.   I am looking forward to finding my forever family, so these foster folks can help another boxer in need!

- Gus arrived yesterday.  He is a sweet 2 yr old gentle, polite, well behaved boy.   He is so loving and eager to learn new things!  He must be starting to adjust, as this morning he found his voice (so quiet yesterday), especially when he spends some time in the crate.  Very good about entering, but vocal about staying in it.  We will work on that!  There is no doubt he will make his *forever* home complete.
