| 11/21/10- Okay, since Duke IV can tell you about himself, so can I. My name is Gunny, and I just spent 6 months in a shelter where they took good care of me, but all those dogs barking and charging my kennel really scared me, the noises and the constant barking.....well, I really need some time to relax and be in a "no stress" atmosphere.
Here in my foster home, I love being outside with the resident dogs. They like to run and box and just plain have fun, and I really enjoy their company. But when we come inside, well, those memories of dogs barking and charging me are really hard to overcome, but I'm trying. I've made a lot of progress in just one weeks time. I love to go for walks, and I'm doing pretty good with it, but I get a little nervous when people come by us when I'm trying very hard to concentrate on our walk. This foster mom just tells people I'm a good boy, but I'm not ready for strangers to pet me yet, so we don't really stop to visit. I don't mind being an only dog either. I'm happy to rest in my crate or relax in a room all by myself when you go to work or the store. I won't mind at all being your only pet. Well it's almost dinner time here, so I'm going to go take a nap, I'll get back to you all very soon 11/15/10 - What can I tell you about this boy Gunny. Besides the fact that he's white, he has tiny brown freckles all over his body, and a cute little brown nubbin tail, and a large brown patch on his face that I find very handsome. He has very expressive eyes that really miss nothing happening in the neighborhood everything. He is still a little nervous, but that is completely normal at this time. He does have an awesome appetite, which leads me to believe he will finally gain some much needed weight. I also don't think that Gunny has not had very much exposure to other dogs or perhaps I should say positive exposure, and although I planned on taking introductions very slowly, he did meet my 3 very calm and unthreatening dogs in the yard today and I had the opportunity to watch him actually play with my deaf boy Reese and my Boston Terrier. He really wasn't quite sure how to play and was actually afraid at first, but to watch him box a little and run with my dogs was really awesome. To see a whole change in his demeanor, his happy eyes, his elation at running in the yard with another white boxer boy, well to say the least, it did my heart good. He did meet the little girls next door, and although the fence is between them, he was currious and happy to meet them. So stay tuned as we get to know Gunny better. 11/11/10 - Gunny had quite the day today. First this morning I was taking the trash out and (Gunny has so far not been a runner or tries to bolt out the door) I closed the back door but apparently not good enough as the next thing I know Gunny is right besides me marking the bushes I thought he would follow me back inside but no he decided to take a run around the condo complex. Calling him did nothing. I knew he went in the back of the condos towards the woods so I hopped in the car and headed down the road to see if he would come out of the woods. Sure enough he is out of the woods and running up the street towards home. I stopped the car opened the tailgate and he jumped in. Got him home put him in his crate and off to work. When I came home and opened the door I had a nose sticking out and the tail waggen away as if to say "hi missed you glad you are home". Not sure if I did not close both the latches as one was open and Gunny was out of his crate. Nothing was messed or touched. So I guess this guy does not really need to be crated. 11/9/10 - Since poor Gunny was in the shelter for months I thought once he distressed a little he deserved a spa day so today he was pampered. He was such a good boy. They all feel in love with him and everyone said if they had the room they wanted to take him home. I did learn that Gunny is a little shy when first meeting people but warms up after awhile. So, he will not accost your guest as they come into your home. 11/7/10- Gunny had a great night last night. We went to bed about 11 pm and he sleep without a peep until I was getting up at 7:30am We ate breakfast after going outside to do his business and then a rest after a good meal. I then left for church and Gunny walked into his crate on his own. Came home to a quite boy sitting and waiting for me. Today he wagged is little nubby tail for the first time. Gunny is good around children, but I would not let younger ones walk him as he is strong and can pull when he wants to get to a tree. We have not encountered any other animals at this point but will report back as soon as we do and I know his reaction. 11/6/10- Gunny arrived today from a shelter. He is an extremely quiet boy who loves to ride in the car and is now resting by my feet on his bed. He was well cared for in the shelter but we all know Boxers do not do well in shelters so we need to get some meals into this boy and fatten him up a bit. That is the fun part for me so I can give him lots of treats and let him know that he is going to be loved again. He is a tall boy with the cutest brown spot around his left eye and on his little nubby tail. I am not sure if he just does not really know his name or is in need of some obedience training. He will sit if I touch is back end with just a light touch. Right now because he is so skinny his head looks so big. This boy will steal your heart the moment you look into his eyes. I will keep you posted on Gunny as we get to know each other and he has settled in and destressed. |
