UPDATE 10/21/10 - Emmy is doing well (health and personality). She loves going to her obedience classes. Our instructor told us a couple nights ago that she sees improvement with Emmy's shyness every week. She likes meeting the other dogs in the group and is learning a lot.
We took her with us with our other dog Chewie this weekend to a weekend getaway in old forge, NY. She had a blast, being outdoors and hiking. On the way up bald mountain she actually greeted a stranger without any sign of fear, this is great to see.
This weekend we will start training her on the invisible fence. It will be nice for her to be able to run around freely with Chewie.

UPDATE 9/27/10 - Emmy is still doing well, coming out of her shell a little more.  She is still very cautious of visitors, with time I think she will get used to the flow of them though our house.
We have started clicker training, doing well loves the treats!  Loves to play with the cat (sometime more than with our other dog ;-)).
I think she is getting used to our routine here, which is always good, dogs are creatures of habit.
The only big obstacle we are having is the stairs.... she really is not to keen on going up the large flight of stairs we have, another things that will get better with repetition.

UPDATE 9/18/10 - Emmy is doing wonderful!   Our car ride home from buffalo went well, she slept most of the way.  Our first step was a nice long walk with both Emmy and our other dog Chewie (far apart at first and we gradually decreased distance) hellos went just fine between the two.
We did a little slower introduction with our resident feline, we were unsure how Murphey (our kitty) would react, but that's just fine as well.  Murphey often plays with Chewie and he actually did play with Emmy last night for the first time. (The cat plays peekaboo under the edge of the bed with the dogs, quite entertaining).
She is eating well, we are slowly transitioning her to a new dry which she likes a lot.  It took her a couple days to be comfortable enough to do a full on boxer wiggle, but  for the last few days she has been happy as a lark.  She is quite the cuddler, she has really bonded with me in particular she is great with Tom but this week I have been able to spend a little more time with her than he has.
I did take her into work with me (I am a Vet tech) on Monday just to have her checked out, I noticed right off she had a bit of odor to her skin and ears so we gave her a nice bath and cleaned her ears and she is on a topical ointment to treat a yeast infection in her ears.  I also had them take a look at her eyes, I noticed a little bit of a haze to them, they said that her vision is intact and that the haze was likely due to a cholesterol deposit, not a big deal.  We also got her micro chipped and she got a few other vaccinations (lepto, kennel cough...). She was great for everything.
We are starting obedience class next wednesday, I think she will ace it though I have already started working with her and she is very responsive.
Overall we are soo happy!  I can't tell you how nice it is to take our daily walks with both Tom and I with a dog in hand (by the way she leash walks very well).

9/11/10 - Emmy has been adopted!

8/26/10
Well, well, well, I thought for sure being the dog of the month would bring me some attention, after all having my beautiful profile splattered on the front page of the web how can you resist?  I am loving this thing called freedom its cool!  Except Jonah wakes FM up around 3 am to go potty OMG is he crazy or what, dont he know I am snuggled up sleeping?  Jeesh!  FM says I look like I put on some weight, she should talk LOL!  I guess I cant help that she feeds me delicious food, there is no way I am leaving anything in my bowl for those other dogs.  Hey guess what?  FM brought home this cool new toy, its a fox but he has a pop bottle in him so he makes these cool noises when I chew on him.  She says its earth friendly cause she can change the bottles when it gets too smooshed  lol!  Lets see what else can I tell you to entice you?  I'm beautiful, I'm snuggly, and I am a wonderful boxer girl!  FM has no complaints, I dont chew furniture, I dont pee or poop in the house and when you come home I will do that fantastic kidney bean dance for you cause I missed you!  Please consider adopting me, I would love to have my own home with maybe just one other dog, there are tooooo many here.  I love my humans and all the attention they give me so hurry up I'm waiting.

7/30/10 -
Hi, Emmy here.  I felt you all needed to know how great I am doing!  I love people and the great outdoors, FM says that I am gorgeous and kind hearted.  I love, love, love stuffed toys, especially the ones that squeak.  Foster mom says they remind me of all my pups I was used to taking care of.  I am working on the trust thing with men: Foster dad is ok but the 17 yr old boy just scares me.  Foster mom says I am an attention hog. See, she was petting me and one of the other females walked up and I nipped at her, I just did not want to share FM.  I am still eating dry kibble mixed with wet food, hee hee I have them all convinced that I wont eat otherwise!  I havent really been around young children, so I'm not sure if it would be a good match or not. I still am comfy in my crate, its my safety net if ya know what I mean.  All in all, I am wonderful! Dont worry about me being 5 yrs old. I am young at heart but not too hyper like them youngins.  When its time to relax I either go to my crate or I am on the couch snug as a bug.  Well, that's it for now talk to you soon.....

7/10/10
Hello everyone, Emmy here and I just wanted to briefly update everyone on how things are going here in NY.  Foster mom says I am coming along nicely but there are a few things I need to work on, for example I seem to shy away if you have something in your hand a piece of paper a shirt anything I freak out and run.  Also when I am eating my wet food in the crate I sometimes growl at the other dogs for trying to get it  lol!  Mine all mine!  I eat the dry kibble fine with the others around I just dont like sharing my special food with them.  Another thing we are working on is when FM's daughter is eating I protect her from the others, I just dont know what their problem is they are scrounge hounds and want to eat everything in site, so as I am giving my snarl FM says NO be good and I stop.  She explains to me I dont have to be so protective.  I want you also to know the great things about me, I just LOVE to snuggle in the recliner with FM or whoever lets me.  I go potty outside like a good girl and even play sometimes with the others.  I love all humans, sometimes a little shy with men but once I know they are not gonna hurt me I am fine.  I also have discovered what toys are and I just love them they are so much fun, especially when one of the other dogs pull on the other end boy oh boy that is too much fun.  All in all I say I am the cats meow when it comes to boxers, so if you have lots of love to give, well I say i'm your girl!!!!!!!

6/28/10 -
Well, I have seen a major turn around with Emmy.  She has become more and more trusting of people and enjoys running the yard as fast as she can with Jonah!  She also sleeps out of the crate at night with the other dogs on the couch or in my chair in front of the air conditioner (she's no dummy)  I have watched her picking at the dry kibble left out but I still feed her kibble and wet food once a day in the crate so she keeps up that girly figure.  She is such a love bug, she finds it is her place to lick everyone (the other dogs) to let them know she is there for them and loves them.  She must have been a great mother to all those pups she was forced to have.  She is a great boxer girl and deserves a great loving family please dont make her wait forever to find her forever family!  She may not be a pup but by all means is not old, she has plenty of fun filled years to spend with her new family could that be you?!

6/15/10-
Emmy had her spay done and is healing fantastically. She also had 2 teeth removed and is still eating soft food, but I have been adding dry kibble and feeding her in the crate so the others dont eat her food, as they don't get wet food.  Emmy is slowly adjusting to living like a boxer should. She tries to play and is sleeping on the couch with the other dogs during the day, but still likes to sleep in her crate at night. She is roaming the yard more and more. She is a wonderful boxer girl and and loves to lick Jonah's face when he has wounds from scratching due to his mange, I guess that is her mothering instincts from having so many litters of pups. Little by little she is getting used to the house and living with humans and other dogs and cats. She doesn't seem to be as timid or shy as she used to be when she first came here and will roam the house freely and comfortably- not running to her crate with every noise.  I think she will make a great boxer to a loving and nurturing home that understands what she has been through and will be patient and go slowly with her so she is not overwhelmed and allowed to take her time to settle in.  She will fit into any home that has lots of love for her.

6/10/10
Emmy went to the vet today and is in great health, tested negative for heart worm and the doc doesn't think she is pregnant and scheduled her for her spay tomorrow morning knowing that if it does turn out she is pregnant not to abort!  She weighed in at 50 lbs and was well behaved for everyone she came in contact with.  I mentioned to the vet that she has not been eating and the doc went and got a can of wet food, popped the top and all 4 of the cats at his office came running in the room and Emmy just looked at them like back off that's my food.  She ate it up with out hesitation so i guess i must buy some wet food and mix it in with the dry food to get her on a feeding schedule.  After hearing Emmy's story Dr. Gerber was amazed at how well she behaved and how friendly she was.  She is a good girl and needs a home where she will get a lot of attention and love, she still runs to her crate for safety but is getting better at making herself comfortable with roaming the house.  With a little patience and a lot of love she will make a great companion for someone.

6/8/10
Introduced Emmy to the other 6 dogs in the house and all went well her nub was just a waggin the whole time.  Of course the biggest pain is Jonah who by the way has not been neutered yet and likes her smell LOL!  She still runs directly to the crate when she feels overwhelmed or hears a new noise.  She loves the run of the big back yard even sharing it with the others.  She is not comfy enough to get on the furniture but i'm sure with time she will fall in suit with the others.  Emmy has finally taken a drink of water but has not eaten a bite yet, gonna try some wet food to entice her.  Last night I couldn't leave her in the crate so i brought her up to my room and i ended up sleeping on the floor with her all night, she snugged up against me so tight i almost couldn't move.  Emmy goes to the vet this Thursday to get a check up we need to check for heart worm and a pre spay appointment.  So I will update after her vet appointment, hopefully all is well.

6/7/10 -
Emmy made her way into rescue today thanks to Laura and her husband.  She is very friendly and seems to be well socialized.  She is in a crate right now because I'm home alone and don't want to take a chance of doing intros alone. So, we will take it slow to do it right. I'm sure she will be fine.  Will report more as we get to know her and hopefully get some pics she is gorgeous! She and some other dogs were rescued from a breeder that was closed down by NY authorities- check out the story here.
Emmy was a breeding mom at a "puppy mill" backyard breeder. She spent years in a basement having litters of puppies. Even through it all, she still loves people and wants to be a normal little girl.
