9/10/10 -Big changes at Diva's Foster Home and she continues to be the sweet adaptable girl!! Her Foster Family is fostering a three-week old skin baby girl. Diva loves the baby and has been wonderful enough. Although Diva is deaf, when the baby cries she senses it and comes over to check on the baby. Diva and Duchess continue to get along better every day. Diva will complete her training next week. Her Foster Family is very proud of Diva's continued wonderful improvements and behavior!

Diva is a silly girl,
Her coat just shines like a pearl.
Even though she can not hear
In our hearts, we hold her dear.

Today she is full of fun.
In the nursery she likes to run.
Today she thought she saw a bug!
So she tried to bite the rug.

She is learning to behave.
To follow commands, when my hand does wave.
She loves her family and does her part
In Boston we say she's "wicked smaht".

What a wonderful weekend Diva had!! Her Foster family went up North so Aunty Shelley and her family graciously hosted Diva for the weekend. Diva was a wonderful house guest and charmed the whole family. FM came back and Diva returned home without missing a beat!! It is amazing that in only a month that Diva has come far enough with her training and manners to be an impeccable guest. Thanks to Aunty Shelley and her lovely family. Diva and Duchess are getting along well. A favorite of Diva continues to be children. Aunty Shelley said that Diva was great with both of her children.

Diva and Jack sitting in a tree-K-I-S-S-I-N-G!! Yo hello, Diva here! I so love my two-year old skin Foster Brother Jack. I wear a leash in the house and today Jack picked it up and said "I am walking Diva"!! I have to say I really enjoy following him around and going to get toys he throws for me. I am going to training and also love that. Yesterday FM and I went to Petco. We saw two people and I very politely approached them to receive some pets. This is a huge step for me. I am learning that people don't mean me any harm but may just see me as the cute wiggle-butt that I am!!

Things are getting better and better with Diva!!  FM took Jack out for a few hours today and Diva was upstairs with Duchess for over an hour when FD was downstairs on the computer.  This is quite an accomplishement as neither was too thrilled with the other at first.  Time and patience did the trick as well as baby gates, leashes and crates.  Arlyn, Diva's trainer, feels that Diva is trying to establish her dominance over Duchess when she gives her the "hairy eyeball" which of course is not allowed here!  If this occurs, per Arlyn's training, Diva is simply placed in a time-out.  This does not occur in her crate as that is her happy place.  She is simply removed from the family, who she considers her people, leashed to the door in the kitchen out of sight from the family.  This is only for a minute but will teach Diva what is considered acceptable manners and behavior.  She has been here a month today and her entire Foster Family is proud of her progress to date.  With slow introductions (which is essential in any case when introducing a new dog into a family), Diva can learn to live with another dog.  Her favorite person continues to be her two-year old skin Foster Brother Jack.  She follows him everywhere and is extremely gentle with him.  Jack returns her affection in kind and loves his "Diva-D".  They are always supervised together which is the case with any dog and a small child.  Diva is thriving with obedience training, clear expectations and a routine in place that allows her to feel more comfortable and self-confident.  It will be very hard to see her adopted but we are committed to seeing her happy and loving her Forever Home!

Have we got some very important an exciting announcements about Ms. Diva! She started at Dog Training tonight and did wonderfully. Arlyn, the trainer from Petco, was very pleased with how Diva progressed in just one class. At first she was barky with the other dogs, but by the end of the class she was laying quietly by FM's side. Overall the concensus is that Diva is a very trainable dog who just has not been given the opportunity to learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not. She is a sweet girl who will continue to make strides and be successful given the right support. Diva loves her people and is working very hard to be the best Boxer she can be. It is very promising that after only one session of training that she seems to have gained some self-confidence, which is what every dog should be allowed the chance to have. So far she hs mastered the gestural command of "look at me" and is learning "good girl". Please consider making Diva a loving pet of your house to give her the "Forvever Home" that she is looking for.

Heyyyo! Diva here with an update. I am continuing to do well in my Foster Home. One of my fave people here is my 2 year old foster skin brother Jack-I just love to kiss him. I am doing better with seeing new people outside. Foster Mom will be taking me to training to help me do something called "socialize" and to tighten up my obedience training. Just because I can't hear doesn't mean that I can't learn! Please think about adding me to your home!! Diva-D!!

Well I got home from bringing Jack from swimming and opened my door to both my foster Diva and my dog Duchess greeting me! Both had tails wagging and neither was growling at each other which is great after only ten days together. My husband decided to try them loose together, supervised, with Diva still attatched to a leash but not being held. I was so proud of all three of them: Patrick (my husband), Duchess and of course our little Diva! I just had to share.

It has been very muggy here but Diva is one cool chick! As she is deaf, she is very dependent on her other senses to compensate. As she is very intune to visual input, she may be startled by sudden movements. She is always supervised and on a leash with my 2 year old Jack so if he begins running suddenly, Diva will not be taken by surprise. It is my feeling that Diva has not lived with another dog before. Intros with my female have been slow. Last night they were sleeping on 2 dog beds side by side which is nice improvement in under a week. Use of leashes and baby gates are recommended for slow intros with the new dogs. Diva is a loving girl and will shine in a great home!

Hello from the hot and hazy North Shore of Massachusets!!  Time for an update on darling Diva.  She is settling in well and I have an awesome official announcement-Diva has put on almost 2 1/2 pounds.  She does not need to visit a vet but they very nicely agreed to do a weight check for me.  Diva now weighs 42.2 pounds.  For a 2 year old she knows hardly any commands but she catches onto them real quick,  I tried her on an Easy walker Harness which really helps with her pulling while on walks.  She sleeps through the night well and is eating like a champ.  Make no mistakeabout this-she truly is DIVALICIOUS!!

What a way to celebrate Indeprence Day-starting a Boxer on a new life!!  Thanks to Lorelyn for bringing Diva to NH to meet FM.  Diva is a pretty, petite white girl who is DEAF!!  She is sweet and rode well in the back of the SCBR Transport Wagon (i.e. my Volvo).  Diva panted a little bit but is understandably stressed with all these new changes to her life.  She pottied twice and met my own DIVA (AKA Duchess) outside on leashes with nubs wagging.  She had a bath in Jack's baby pool with no problems as she was a little ripe.  Jack my 2 year old cheerfully greeted her and she returned the greeting in kind.  I walked her around the neighborhood and she porttied again but is a bit of a puller.  She did meet Winston the neighborhod Bassett Hound and was fine with him.  Now I am not a small girl myself and she could pull me so we will work on that.  Diva will need to get on a strict potty schedule and then I think she can be considered housebroken.  My dogwalker will try her on some different harnesses and head collars to see what works best for her.  She is now resting in her guest suite (i.e. thre sunroom behind a baby gate).  I think she would be great in a home with kids as she seems to love them so far.  Get your applications in soon as she is a keeper!!
Since I am deaf I will be needing a fenced yard, another dog and someone home more often.
