UPDATE 7/29/10 - It is with much sadness that I have to report of Dantes passing on 7-19-10. I have been unable until now to update his site. My BEAUTIFUL boy Dante had been suffering w/ bladder cancer & no one knew. I have been HEARTBROKEN with his loss as he had become an instant addition to this family, fitting like a glove. He has been greatly missed by his Momma,Daddy & Laila. We spared no cost on his treatment but there are just some things you cant fix. God how I wish I could have! WHAT an AMAZING boy!!!! I honestly feel that he was sent to us for a reason & we were given the privilege to be his forever home.(even if it were just over 6 wks) Such a kind and gentle soul. There is much to be learned about our "babies" and how we treat them. I know Dante knew how much we loved him & I know he crossed the rainbow bridge carrying his kong frisbee that Daddy got JUST for him. Watch for his BEAUTIFUL pic w/ Laila in the scbr calendar. (I hope)LOVE YOU DANTE!! XOXOXO A Special thanks to the  Animal Emergency Clinic of mid Maine & Winthrop Veterinary Hospital. (especially Dr. Bryant)

UPDATE 7/2/10 - My first update ( 1 week ) was done via telephone. I left a message about Dante. All I can say about Dante is he's just truly AMAZING!!! It's now been 30 days and I feel like he's always been with us. He gets along wonderfully with our little girl boxer Laila. I'm not sure if you have seen the pic I sent Scott but they are two peas in a pod!!! That photo was taken just one day after he arrived in his forever home. He has been to our vets and did very well! He is such a gentleman and listens to everything we say. I couldn't have asked for a better boy!!! We love him SO much! His absolute favorite new toy was a kong frisbee that his Daddy got him. Its definately his favorite but he is always willing to share with his girl Laila. He shows no food agression @ all which is a big plus! Our grandkids (3 & 6)happily feed him treats & we never have had any issues. He totally respects his family and in return we cant give him ENOUGH love! He plays & sleeps & plays & sleeps! Such a cu  ddle bug! Dante is an exceptional rescue & there is no way he will ever be alone again. THANK YOU FOR GIVING US SUCH A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY to have this dream come true!

6/4/10 - I was adopted today!

Two quick stories: 1) yesterday all 4 dogs were out back doing their business, all off leash, when the Fed Ex truck came.  2 of the dogs ran out front to greet him...oh no!  Julie ran after them and our 3rd one followed her.  She gathered up our 3 so the delivery could be made without the guy being lapped to death, looked around to see where Dante was and he was not to be seen.  She opened the front door to get the 3 in and go look for Dante.  Much to her surprise and pleasure, as she opened the door, there he was, sitting in the house like the good boy he is!  He had gone back up on the deck and in the back door because he knew running away from Julie was wrong!  What a good boy!  2) This morning, after doing his business, we were waiting for Maxi to finish and he noticed the kids left the frisbee behind the chair on the front porch.  He got down on his belly, snaked under the chair, got the frisbee and snaked out from under the chair.  He got up, had it in is mouth and handed it to me so I could put it back in it's "usual place" and then went inside with Maxi.  Again, what a good boy!

Well I think it's time the lady of the house takes a moment to
say what I think of Dante.  Dante is a true and genuine soul.
He loves to know where you are at, but has grown to trust
it's safe for him to take a time out when needed on our bed, all
by himself.  Dante reminds me of a deep thinker, just seems to
always have alot on his mind.  I would also say he is on the
conservative side and will wait on your every move.  I truly
love this little guy and know that he is going to make one of you the
best and greatest dogs you will ever have.  If you like to take
walks, like to cuddle,  if you like a dog you can trust off a leash,
he is YOUR guy!  It is so nice to have one that you do not have
to put on a leash, as he stays right by your side no matter what!
He is quite the frisbee player too, man he even brings it back to
you and it doesn't get much better than that.  Dante is an all around
great dog and if he stays here much longer I am afraid we will be all
to happy to keep him right here with the girls.  He has them right where
he wants them and when he gets really excited he is very loud and makes
them all run and hide, but he is just making noise that is all!
He is all veted up and ready to go, so don't
wait too long, Dante will not be here long..........the special ones
never are!  He follows in the footsteps of some of the greatest male fosters ever: Tiki, Rufus, and Junior and Dante is definately in the same class.

"I'm done with letting my foster family speak for me.  In my opinion they are way too cautious.  After having my world turned upside down, I am getting along great with the other dogs here.  If you adopt me and have another dog, it may take me a few days to get used to them but I think I can do it.  I don't scare them any more and in fact I sleep touching them and they sleep touching me.  As far as kids under 4 go, they say no only because I am so tall and when I get excited when someone comes home, my happy dance may knock them over.  As far as every day living, as long as they don't jump on me or pull my ears and nub, I think I can deal with them.
I go for lots of rides and am good in the car while I wait.  I tell them when I have to go outside and do my duty and they have even let me off the leash a few times and I didn't try to run or go on any adventures (one of their dogs does though...hehehehe).
I am getting my shots tomorrow and will be ready to be a part of your family.  I listen better than most, obey better than most and love all the attention I can get.  So before I get so used to living here and won't want to leave this foster home, dial 1-800- GET-DANTE and let me show you what a great Boxer is all about."
P.S.  I am also changing the name of the song to "NO LEASH, NO COLLAR, NO PROBLEM!"

Dante is coming into his own and settling in now comfortable with us, his new digs, and has accepted his female counterparts.  When he's with one of us he is the perfect companion.  He's all wiggles, snuggles, kisses and will lay in your lap or by your side for hours.  He has stopped his growling at the other dogs except for once in a while when food is involved.  He is very possessive of food.  Other than that, he just goes about his business and doesn't pay much attention to what the others are doing.  Not a leader nor a follower.  He just loves to be doing his thing on his time schedule.  What a great boy and to those who pass him over, you are going to kick yourself in the butt for not adopting Dante.

5/10/10 -
Dante is starting to relax a bit more and is eating now.  I can't imagine what it must be like for him to have his whole world turned upside down.  He is a real trooper and is putting his best foor forward.
So far we know that Dante will be the cream in someone's coffee.  He loves to ride and is good in the car when left alone.  He is good on a leash, housetrained (talks to you when he needs to go out) and will lay by your side as long as you want.  Also, he is not a snorer.  He loves to be outside and on the deck checking everything out.
He hasn't started playing with toys or the other dogs yet but I think that will come in time.  He is very possessive of his food, the kitchen in general and when he's on the bed.  He does growl and lets the others know that it's "his" area and to stay out.  When he is in the main areas of the house he is fine with them because he doesn't pay them any attention but he has the others frightened if he is in the kitchen and that is why we believe that he should be the only dog in a house so he doesn't have to share the attention or the food.
All in all, Dante is a very good boy who listens and obeys and has a classic tall and lanky "Boxer wiggle" when he gets excited.  He will be somebody's best friend and will go everywhere with them.  If you want a sidekick to be proud of.....Dante is your man.

5/8/10 -
Dante arrived last night.  You can tell already he is very good boy with tons of personality.  He was given to the SCBR to insure he gets a good home and the life he deserves.  It was a case of his owner being relocated to another state and reluctantly couldn't take Dante with him so Dante is going through many changes and needs a couple of days to settle in and get to know everyone before we start bragging about him.
