| UPDATE 6/26/10 - Guess what???? Deliliah has a new little brother! Zeke! But he won't be little for long. He's a 10 week old Rottweiler. And boy do they love each other. He brings out the mother in her again and he loves being her little buddy. They play so well together. I think that they really complete each other.
Deliliah is still working hard in her second doggy class. She is usually the star of the class, although she is so anxious to meet the other dogs, that she tends to leap at them when I'm not focused on the training. We are continuing to work on this and on being on a leash in general. Really I think she had quite a bit of training in her last life as she picks up on it very quickly. She did get into something again the other day and had an upset stomach for the night. She felt much better the next day, but we always have to watch out as she will eat ANYTHING! We continue to love having her in our homes and a part of our family. She is a cuddly, lovey, wonderful girl. UPDATE 5/24/10 - Not much to report, Deliliah continues to be a great addition to our family. She looked very pretty last night when my 4 year old daughter tied a big pink ribbon around her neck - Deliliah wore it proudly. She loves her new bed, doesn't ask to get on the couch as much. And she loves her toys, but she has to have them under supervision as she can chew up just about anything. She is a great hiker (except when she finds dead porcupines and rolls in them). Deliliah is very helpful in the garden where she eats unwanted weeds and turns the soil with her vigorous rolling. I think she is part dog, part pig and part cow, but all cute. Her training is going very well. She is learning to stay and to "leave it" along with many other useful commands. She often makes me laugh. She loves to run around like a crazy dog, especially after a bath. Really she is a perfect dog, and we love her very much. UPDATE 4/17/10 - I now understand the term puppy love. Deliliah may not be a puppy but I am definitely in love! She is everything Second Chance Boxer said she was. Relaxed? She couldn't be more or we might be worried. Snuggly? Wait, what is this chocolate colored furry thing next to me on the couch? She loves her chew toys and treats and her walks. We have been working a lot on leash training and she is getting much better about pulling. She is really great off the leash too - stays right with me. We did take her to the vet and are trying to figure out what she needs for vaccinations as she came with very limited records. Also we did find out that she has whip-worm so we treated her for that. She is putting on a little weight which she looked like she needed (3 lbs). Now we just need to maintain which might be a little challenging as Deliliah LOVES food. Fortunately she has not gotten into anything she is not supposed to again, and it seems as though some of those obsessive cravings for more food have diminished. We are signed up for an obedience class which starts at the end of April. We are looking forward to that. We are so happy to have Deliliah - she is a great addition to our family. UPDATE 3/22/10 - Deliliah is doing very well. She really is a great dog and we feel very lucky to have her in our family. She is great with our 4 year old daughter, Mazy. She sits and lies down on Mazy's command! She is gentle when she takes treats from her hand. She seems like she had quite a bit of training in her past. She continues to be curious about our cats and sometimes chases them, but only to get a better smell. I really think she just wants to be friends. We all went to my mothers house this weekend and Deliliah was very happy to meet her human grandma. She did get into a bag of snacks while we were out for dinner and among other things, ate a bag of raisins. Apparently raisins can be poisonous to dogs so we called the emergency vet and had to induce vomiting. She probably felt better after that regardless of whether the raisins were going to hurt her - she had eaten quite a bit. I think she has an iron stomach though and she was fine. Today she got into the bathroom trash. When I got home I scolded her and pointed to the crate we just got this weekend. She hung her head and obediently went into her crate. She is teaching me that I need to be aware of what I leave within her reach. Regardless of these incidents, we are so happy to have Deliliah! She loves going for walks, chasing a ball or stick, riding in the car, or just snuggling with her family. We all love her very much. 3/14/10 - Dahlia has been adopted! 2/16/20 - Dahlia is doing well in our family setting. She has been neutered and recovered fine from that. She is snoozing with the other 3 dogs on a pillow right now. She looks great after recovering from the puppies and surgery. Her hair has grown back, she has a very short shiny coat. She does not seem to shed. That is comparing her to the Yellow Lab here though! She has maintained her weight at about 40 pounds. Dahlia is a very friendly, people oriented dog. Loves to lie next to you, on you if you will let her! Mostly quiet, barks at cars in the driveway, visitors at the door. No aggressive tendancies to other dogs or people noted so far. She's been tested, believe me. Great appetite. I would not leave food invitingly around, as she is always interested. And eats anything! Kennel trained, she likes her hideout. One bad thing that has happened is that she killed a chicken. Don't know if she has ever been around them before, and our dogs are trained, so I was careless, and it was too much of a temptation to chase them. No repeat of that offense! I have her off leash when I'm out and about, and she stays very close to her person. Whoever gets her will be lucky. She is loyal, friendly, tail wagging, always glad to see you! 1/29/10 - One of Dahlia's puppies' new families had her son DNA tested. The pup was 75% boxer, which means that Dahlia has some boxer in her. But the funny part was that there is some Yorkshire Terrier in there, too! Maybe that's why she's little and short...not to mention that cute little bitty tail? Anyway, this means we get to move her to the main boxer page and she'll find her new home faster than ever!!! Is that YOUR home?? 1/12/2010 - Dalilah is such a wonderful dog! She is intelligent, loving and playful. Kennel trained, housebroken. When outside of the fence, she is off leash. She never wanders far, and is right there if you call her name. She is very easy going. She loves the teenagers here. We have a 7 month old here too. We have been able to take food and bones away from her without incident. No aggression towards humans/dogs at all (we have 3 other dogs here), she loves people. She weighs about 40 pounds. She has very short hair. Doesn't seem to shed much. In short, she is going to make someone a fantastic companion. She is happy to snooze all day, but comes alive and is very agile with any encouragement. She can jump up on a tall bed or over a stall door. She has been known to sneak treats off the counter. She will jump up on you if she thinks you are an easy mark. Going to get spayed tomorrow. Believe she had puppies very recently. She has a home here until a forever home becomes available. We love her! November 2009 - Dahlia came to us with her puppies. She had nine puppies, of which Stitch is the last waiting for his forever home. Now she's spayed and patiently waiting at her foster home for her OWN forever family! |
| Gimme a break! Would you look this good just after having 9 puppies?!? New pics coming soon... |
