| UPDATE 8/22/10 - Cassius is getting settled right into the swing of things with us at home! He is soaking up all the love, snuggeling and doggy kisses. He has been enjoying playing with the frisbee and tennis ball in the back yard and is starting to be able to stay outside hooked up by himself for short amounts of time without getting upset. He hasn't tried to chew or destroy anything in the house! He is a very fast learner and is learning to listen. When he barks at someone or does something naughty he is put in time-out upstairs and has learned not to come down until invited back downstairs...it has worked out very well when introducing him to strangers! We have a private dog trainer coming to the house on Thursday to start trouble-shooting his anxiety related to people coming to the house... we will keep you posted! 8/15/10 - I was adopted today! 7/31/10 - We have definately figured Cash out now. His aggressiveness and excitement when people come in the house is purely protective. We had some friends come over and enter the house from the back deck, sit down and with us. Cash wandered out on the deck and didn't even bat an eye at them. Once you are in the house everything is fine. We are working very diligently with him on strangers coming in and he is improving every day. He just needs some love, patience and consistency. He plays rougher than most Boxers but there is definately no intent to injure. He just loves to play with a young Boxer or a squeaky toy. A good doggie school and consistent home training and this little man will be the catch of the day! Someone is really going to be glad they picked Cassius. If his new home had a fenced in yard for him to run around in, I think he would think he was in heaven! Oh yeah, he does think he's a lap dog and once again, Julie has stolen another one from me! 7/24/10 - Cassius is getting pretty comfortable here. The girls took a vote and said he can stay forever because he is such a good boy. Still can't figure out how the vote ended up 53-0 and only the 3 girls voted. I'm thinking Mabel stuffed the ballot box! Cash still needs work when strangers come to the door. He barks and wants to protect his castle so we have to hold him back so they can enter. Once he calms down he is fine and goes about his business. He truly is a diamond in the rough. He just needs a home that will work with him and be patient with him, not throw him in a kennel so ne never learns proper social skils. 7/16/10 - Somebody had better adopt Cassius quick because if it doesn't happen soon, I'm afraid he and Mabel are going to jump a freight train to Vegas and get married! They hug, kiss and spoon all the time. It's embarrassing when company comes over. People think we are running a doggie brothel here. I think Mabel has taken one of the house phones and has hidden it so if any potential forever homes call, she just hangs up on them....."he's staying here" she barks! 7/12/10 - Can someone please tell us where Cash went? The dog we have now is playful to a point where we have to make him take a nap in the afternoon! He is just an awesome dog now. I think he has a thing for Mabel....I always catch them sleeping with their arms around each other and French kissing! I have to make him use mouthwash before he goes to bed because he sleeps with his head on my pillow. After sleeping a little while he curls up in a ball with his snout under my chin. He is already the world champion of squeaky toys. He has found them all and knows how to make each one squeak without being shown. This young man is a keeper and is loyal and obedient as the day is long. 7/10/10 - See me in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA466Cunx0E 7/8/10 - The Worm Has Turned! Cashie-boy woke up this morning after sleeping in the dog-pile last night, and decided the 3 girls weren't so bad afterall. He discovered that playing with another dog is AWESOME! He and Mabel played all day chasing each other, mouthing for hours, biting each others ankles, playing with tennis balls and squeaky toys and non stop grab ass! We had to make him take a break because we don't think he's in "Mabel Shape" yet. His tongue was dragging so far down he was stepping on it. He's taking naps with the girls and now takes treats and eats with them without being separated. If you want to bring the king home and have another dog, it should be one of equal size, no cats and introductions will be a slow and constantly supervised process. In a few days everything should be good. We are so proud of Cassius! 7/7/10 - Cassius has made huge strides in just a couple of days. He is mingling with the 3 resident Queens and no incidents today. He is just a great boy....manly and yet has a soft side when he snuggles up next to you. He snuck out the door today without a leash on and stopped the second I said his name and came back in. I would still say he will do much better as the only dog. Seems his issues with other pets are more protective than anything else. Nobody can sneak up to the house without him knowing. He has a bark like Duke on the Beverly Hillbillies! He sits, stays and lays down on command. If you feel your home is empty and needs something but you can't just put your finger on it.....it's Cassius! 7/5/10 - "Cash" has changed locations here in Maine to see if he just doesn't like little dogs or all dogs.....so far, the verdict is all dogs. By himself, he is the most affectionate and eager to please dog you have ever seen. He told me after being with me for 5 minutes that if I needed a liver or a kidney, I could have one of his! Cassius needs to placed in a home where he is set up to thrive and shine. That would be a house with no other pets, and no small children simpley because of his strength and his excitedness with people. He needs a home where someone is with him most of the day and has the time and desire to work with this awesome guy and mold him into a life long companion. I don't know what happened in his past to make him not like any dogs but take them out of the equation and I will put Cash up against any dog in a loyalty, affection, listening skills, and eagerness to please contest any day of the week! \ There must be someone out there that wants to bring home this very awesome boy and make him the 'poster boy" for Man's Best Friend! 6/26/10 - Cassius arrived here yesterday around 4:00. He is a really sweet boy with a lot of energy. We put him on the line for a couple of hours and hung out there with him. He found a lovely rock to play with. Silly puppy. He also drank about 2-3 bowls full of water. He loves to give boxer kisses. I think he'd do best in a home with older kids because he likes to play a lot, which will calm down the older he gets. He is also going to the vet on Thursday to be neutered and have a general examination. After that he'll probably be ready to go! He knows how to sit and lay down and seems to be a fast learner and attentive when you give him a command. Cassius needs a lot of love, patience and attention- just like any teenager! We'll update you more as we learn more about him. 6/25/10 - Cassius came into rescue today from a home that had no idea how to be owners of a young boxer boy. He was kept short-leashed in a crate when the owners had their fill of yelling at him. Still, showing the endless heart of our boxer babies, he's a very sweet and friendly boy with the new humans he met today. He's chillin' tonight at his new foster home who will introduce you to him as they get to know him. |
