3/11/10 - Miss Casey has been with us almost a week now and she has gone from cocoon and has evolved into a butterfly.  She hangs with the pack, does her own thing, hangs with us....whatever suits her mood.  She minds better than the spoiled brats here which is very refreshing...a dog that listens and behaves.  You know what that means, she can stay here for another day, week, month or years.  This big girl is just a big teddy bear.

3/9/10 -
Do any of you remember the old Looney Tunes cartoon where there was a singing frog who jumped out of his box and sang "the Michigan Rag" I believe?  Well Casey has her own version of that.  I can't tell if she sings or talk "Wookie" for you Star Wars fans.  She sits in front of the door and talks/sings when she has to poop and if she thinks she needs some 1 on 1 time, she does the same thing telling you to put the laptop down and let her snuggle in to you....amazing really!  The second thing I was told to mention is he coat....it's very soft and fluffy and didn't shed hardly anything when we gave her a shower.  We shower every foster so all the dogs here smell the same.  It cuts down on the excessive sniffing and the new kid doesn't feel like they must smell like they are from another planet.  Casey's personality is now coming out and what a princess she really is.  Her nervousness is almost completely gone and she struts around here as if she's been here for years.  She's a low mainenance girl for sure.

When Casey plays with Mabel, the house shakes.  That's 160 lbs rolling around on the floor, running up and down the stairs and taking turns taking the toy of the moment.  The best thing is, when I say "that's enough, everybody needs to take a break" Casey listens and goes and lays down.  Mabel tries to keep the game going.  She plays with a loud growl that takes a day or two to get used to.  Sounds like trouble but not once has there been a scuffle.
If you want a snuggle bunny at night, Casey is your girl.  She lays her head on the pillow right beside me and doesn't move a muscle all night.  She must have taught fellow foster Emmitt this!

3/7/10 -
Casey is settling in slowly but surely.  She is still a bit jittery and quick movements and sudden noices and has super canine hearing.  She stopped short of finishing doing her business outside when she heard a dog, 2 streets over break wind!
She won't tell me who she is routing for between the Red sox and Yankees.  I think she was brainwashed while living in Jersey!  It will take weeks to deprogram her!  She takes her naps with her head between both hats.
Casey hangs with the girls part of the time, with us part of the time and doesn't have to have company all the time so I'm sure she will fit into a home with other bigger breed dogs or in a home all by herself.  She will make someone a perfect companion or a lonely dog a great side kick.  She has her own language too but only talks to her foster mom.  I think they talk about me behind my back if you want to know the truth.

3/6/10 -
Casey Jo, as we call her, arrived today in Maine with a full blown red carpet welcome from the girls.  I think they are getting very accustomed to the new foster routine.  They see a new one coming towards the front door and now they just line up, facing away, butts up and nubs at attention ready for the customary sniff.  After identifying each butt scent she explored the house tried to show the girls she was the new queen.  That lasted all of 5 minutes.  Each girl growled back and we told her that was unaccetable and then she made nice and has blended into the pack and all is good.  She is a bit jumpy with sudden movements and loud noises bit that is getting better by the minute.  She's currently sound asleep on the bed in the "dog pile".  More tomorrow after we find out if she is a snorer and or a night time farter.  I thought I had a Daddy's girl on my hands but once again, my wife, the "dog stealer", has another one hugging and kissing her and trying to be a lap dog.  Maybe bribery will work tomorrow.

2/25/10
- This lovely fawn boxer girl came to us as an owner surrender. She is 2 1/2 years old, spayed and up to date on shots.
She loves people, is great with kids and dogs her size or larger. She likes riding in the car and behaves nicely, although quite nervous (she came to us on antianxiety medication but in my opinion has simply been deprived of the human contact Boxers crave). Casey gives kisses and boxer hugs and just wants to be near her people. She has calmed down quite a bit in the 24 hours since she arrived.
She grew up in a home where there was lots of space, a fenced yard and a doggie
door but because of a divorce she was moved into a smaller house where they did
not have much space or time for her and her new roommate was a chihuahua.
So, now she is looking for a new home - people, kids and most dogs OK, but
please, no chihuahuas! (or similar small pups).
