| UPDATE 9/6/11 - We have had Buca for a year and he has been a great addition to the family!! He is a very lovable dog. Him and our female boxer are the best of friends. We definitely made the right choice in adopting a second boxer.. the two of them are always together. UPDATE 3/8/11 - Buca has lived with us for six months and has settled right into the family. He is doing great. His health is good. He is getting along great with our other boxer Dakota. We are very happy we adopted him. UPDATE 12/1/10 - Hi, Buca is just a wonderful, precious dog. He is great. He is definetly "my" dog, he follows me around everywhere. Him and our other boxer, Dakota are getting along great. They play very well together and when she is done playing, she let's him know. We definetly know who is boss in the family! We just finished obedience training. Buca did a great job and we continue to use the tools we learned. He still has alot of energy, and it is expected as he is still a young boxer.. although he loves to lounge around all day long if given the chance. Well, that's all for now. Happy Holiday's. Can't wait to take pics of Buca and Dakota with Santa Hats on! UPDATE 11/1/10 - Hi. Buca is great. He really is a wonderful dog with an great personality. He is loving and affection and loves to play. He is is great health. Loves to eat.. loves peanut butter. We continue to struggle with him walking on a leash and his displaced aggression towards our other boxer when people are at the door and wanting to come in. Our dog trainer is focusing in on helping us correct these behaviors. We have now put him on a pinch collar (last resort for walking) and it seems to be better, he self corrects, so I don't have to.. makes walking that much more enjoyable. It also has helped with greetings.. both dogs are on pinch collars for that (are female boxer is very stubborn.. I really think she is the troublemaker and Buca takes her lead). Other then these two behavioral issues, he is a great dog. We are determine to correct these behaviors. The funny thing is, once people are in our house, the dogs are fine and calm. The two dogs are great together, they play very well. Tug of war is the funniest. We are breaking the habit of them sleeping on our bed and lounging on our couch.. they are just too big. I do love snuggling with them though, so I just lay on floor with them. We are very happy we have him in our family. UPDATE 10/10/10 - Buca is doing great!!! He is a great dog. Him and my female boxer are getting along great. We continue with the obedince training. He now knows sit/stay; down/stay. We continue to work with him with walking on a leash and greeting people at our door. He is a beautiful dog and we are glad he is part of our family. He continues to display true boxer puppy qualities.. but that is what makes him great.. this too will pass. He has a great tempermant and allows are female to be the dominant one. His expressions are priceless. He loves to play tug of war; the two dogs are great playing together. UPDATE 9/10/10 - Hi, Buca is GREAT!!! What an awesome dog. He has adjusted wonderfully to our home and our female boxer. I am surprised on how nicely our female boxer has accepted them. Pretty much the entire laborday weekend we spent with the dogs, in an effort to help them to bound. The dogs were outside all day every day, playing w/ balls & toys and going on long walks with us. They had many visitors and Buca was great with my nieces and nephews. He is slowly learning how to walk on a leash, it is just a matter of time. He is eating blue buffalo dog food in am and pm. we have created a schedule for the dogs in an effort to help them adjust. We do walks first thing in am; then allow for play time in yard. When we go to work we crate buca (he really doesn't seem to mind). My husband comes home at lunch and lets the dogs out in the yard to run around for 20 minutes. After work, we have play time before/after dinner and then we finish our day with another walk. That has definetly helped kept Buca's energy in check. We had our first obedience training on Wed. Buca did great. We are scheduled every WEd for next 7 weeks and then we will see from there. Buca is such a lovable dog. He is very affectionate. We are very happy with our choice. I think he is happy with us as well. 9/4/10 - Buca has been adopted! 8/22/10 - Buca continues to be an awesome, happy, playful boy. All this boy wants to do is eat, play, ea,t and play some more. When he does finally settle down, he sleeps like a rock, and is ready for more play as soon as he wakes up. He can and does play with more than one dog at a time. He loves my deaf 2 yr old boy, and plays just as hard with my foster Boston Terrier. Both are convinced I took Buca in to be their own private play toy and, lucky for Buca, it has given him the outlet his energy level needs. He has not had a single accident in the house, but I have to tell you that while I'm home, the dogs have free access to go out from the house right into the yard at all times, without asking to go out. He's discovered he really likes this concept, as do most of my fosters. As for his appetite, well this boy can eat, and finishes every last bite of his breakfast and dinner, leaving not a crumb to pick up. Here he is living with all ages of dogs from 2 yrs old right up to 13 yrs old. 8/18/10 - Buca has been learning some manners here at the house and has been proving himself to be a easy going lovable dog. He loves to snuggle and sleep in the bed with you. He has learned to sit and wait for things such as food and doors to open. I have also been able to trim his nails without a single problem, except that he kept trying to play with me. I have also been able to take away any goodies he has and any toys without any problems. No dog aggression either with the toys or food/treats. I know there is some concern about him with young children, but he has been really good. He hasn't knocked over my son or pushed him out of the way. He is a wonderful energetic dog that needs a playmate and/or some to time to get his energy out. Still needs to learn some manners, but as long as you are consistant, he figures it out in a day or two. He is eagerly awaiting your call for a forever home. 8/9/10 - Buca here, I have met this new FM and her family and they all seem nice. The little boy makes a lot of noise sometimes, but I don't get scared. He has some tempting food too, but I don't take it from him...we should share though right? Anyway the girl boxer here is a little older and was a little moody at first, but I got her playing the next day..Boy we had a good time...but why do we have stop? Oh yeah, there are a lot of toys around here and I can't always figure out whats mine to play with, but FM tells me to leave it when its not mine and I give it up. I am having fun here, but would really like to meet my new forever home.. Buca arrived at his new FM's house and flew in and acted like he owned the joint...typical of a adolescent boxer. He is a beautiful brindle boy with such a soft coat and his tale isn't the whip I was expected it to be. He is an energetic youngster that still needs some manners. Buca acts like a big puppy with big feet and a big heart just wanting to do the right thing, but not always sure what that is. He needs someone to take charge and help him out. He actually did really well on a leash this AM, but I also had him running after toys for 15min prior to the walk. He is doing well with my senior lady of the house, but he does need to learn dog speak for"OK enough...I'm tired" He is getting it though. He seems fairly respectful of my 2 yr old son, but I think Buca might be a little much for someone with small kids because he needs some training and has so much energy. Watching Buca play in the yard with his bouncy step and big feet is the funniest thing. He can be clumsy with those feet, but his spirit and demeanor make up for it. This handsome boy is just waiting for his new forever home. 7/12/10 - Hi all. Buca here. I'm here to tell you that i am ready for my forever home. My foster home is very nice and all but i know they are not my very own people. I really want a family to cuddle with, maybe with some bigger kids like the ones I have here. The boys will play fetch with me (I've almost got them trained to retrieve it). I love to cuddle on the hammock with one of the boys, I'm pretty good I don't fall through or flip it over. My foster mom says she thinks I would do better with a four legged brother or sister to teach me the ropes. I love to wrestle and play boxer style. We also like to hang out in the sun laying on the deck together. I like having my foster brother around because he will run with me like the humans won't. They don't seem to get the joy of running ears flying back, jowls flapping in the breeze, ahhh the fun...... Oh yeah foster mom says I need to practice on the leash, I'm practicing for all I'm worth now. These humans are pretty heavy I'm not sure why they want me to drag them everywhere. It would just be so much easier if they would just keep up. So you see I'm not really sure what else I can do with these people. I know they mean well but they are virtually untrainable. I really need a family that will go to an obedience class with me so they can be trained. I'm also very cute as you can tell by my pictures, beautiful and brindle. I love a good bath keeps my white flashy and bright. Anyway enough about me, if you feel like you are the family for the" BUCA BOY" please fill out that app so we can start our summer adventures together. Hope to meet you soon, love Buca 6/27/10 - Hi all, Buca arrived here yesterday. He is a return to rescue, he was with the family for two months. They were heartbroken to have to return him but felt we could find him a home more fitting to his energy level and training needs. He came into rescue as a puppy and was called Lux. The family he went to called him Buca and that is the name he seems to know. So far we have had Buca play with our resident boxer boy and our newfoundland. Buster and Buca started to run and play right away in our fenced yard. After a few minutes they decided that buster would be in charge and bucca was the guest. He does want to be a bit dominant but I think with an older boxer to teach him the ropes and he would do really well. He seems to want to follow buster around and do everything he does. Buca slept last night in his crate without a problem. He is quite a puller on the leash so basic obedience is a must for this guy. So far he seems like a typical puppy. Pictures tomorrow and more as we get to know him and he settles in. I have a feeling this boy won't be here long he is a sweetheart. 6/25/10 - Buca (formerly named Lux) entered his "tween years" with a family who wasn't prepared for an adolescent boxer, so he's come back into rescue. 4/27/10 - Lux continues to be a dream. He loves to play and if you can not play with him he plays by himself. He nows sleeps through the night and has no problem being in his crate. I sometimes forget that he is only 10 months old and when I say no he acts like a baby and has a fit by talking back to you. He is so funny. He still has not picked up any bad habits like getting on the furniture, but I am not sure how long that will last. He has now found my lap and loves to curl up with me in the lounger. I can not believe he has not found the couch or the bed. He is waiting for you...Hurry up and come get him... 4/23/10 Lux now has a clean bill of health and is ready for his forever home. I had a talk with him last night and told him he needs to work on sleeping through the night and, lo and behold, that is exactly what he did. He also was in the crate today for 5 1/2 hrs with no problems. 4/21/10 Lux wanted to let you all know that he is doing fine at the vets and is planning on coming home tomorrow. He flew through his neutering with flying colors. The Dr. found a few minor issues that, with some medicine, will clear up. He has an infection in his eye and tested positive for lyme. He also had a small tumor on his back which was benign and that was removed. The Dr. called me tonight to tell me how good Lux was doing and they have all feel in love with him. He really has been doing really great here and in fact he does not know a lot of bad habits. He does not get on any furniture but goes right to his dog bed in the living room and sleeps on his bed at night next to mine. Not once YET has he tried to get on my bed. This boy is ready to play when you want, but will settle down when you need to do your work. Just give him a bed and he is all set. He does not beg yet but does know the cabinet where the cookies are. Being so young he does need to take a bathroom break in the middle of the night, but he says he is sure to out grow that in time. 4/18/10 This sweet boy arrived today from a previous foster home who held him for a week until he could get to me. We have decided we do not like the name Lux and he does not know it so looking for a new name as I write. He is one of the softest little boy I have had and seems to have a dandruff problem which we can get under control. Even though he is still just a baby he knows a few commands already and will learn very quickly. At his previous foster home he loved to play with their foster Daisy. She said they would play for hours and then come in and fall fast asleep. He moaned a little in the crate and then would settle down so I believe he is also crate trained. Wednesday he goes to the vet to get neutered and a check up. Right now Lux has been here for less than a half hour and after checking the house out he has settled on his dog bed by my chair and has fallen asleep. My first impression... This boy is a keeper a very sweet personality and no alpha aggression has been expressed either here nor at his temporary foster home. First impressions are usually right on so I would get my call in ASAP..... |
