| UPDATE 9/7/10 - Well Boz has been on his medicine for a little over 3 weeks and there has not been much improvement. We are still trying to keep him calm and although we know that he hates not being able to run with Cami we know its for the best.
We went on vacation over the Labor Day weekend and we kenneled the dogs for the weekend. The owner had NO complaints about either of our boxers and just loved them, he said that they were the best boarders he has had in a long time. They got runs right next to each other and were let out to play for a while together each day. Boz's limp seemed to be better when I picked them up this morning, but wow were they ready to come home....they about flew to the door to get out and get in my truck. As soon as they got home, it was potty time and they both went right to their pillows and have been sleeping for 3 hours now...We initally thought that Boz would have some aggression issues at the kennel but there were none at all with other dogs, which made me happy. The only time we tend to get a little nervous with him is when he has a chew toy or rawhide, he guards it and shows his teeth...no growling and he will let me take it away. But other than that he has been all kidney bean w iggles and nubby going all the time. He now wakes the kids up in the morning with wet kisses and boxer morning breath which the kids dont like, but i find funny....with his leg still sore, we have not let him in bed because it's pretty high...so he is quite happy to sack out on the recliner chair or his pillow. We will just have to wait and see what happens when he is finished with his medication on what the next step will be. UPDATE 8/22/10 - Not so good news. We noticed that when we first got Boz, that he had an occasional limp in his back leg that he had a "skin tag" taken off of before we had adopted him. We addressed this with our vet on the first visit as soon as we got him. The vet told us to just keep an eye on it. Well 2 weeks ago we watched Boz go from a running wild man to having us have to help him up off the pillow in a matter of 5 days. We got him to the vet and explained what was going on with him. The vet decided to run a Lyme Test on him, which i thought was odd because I put him right on K9 Advantix the night i brought him home. I consented to have the test done (which was $33) thinking, what a waste of money this is going to be. I was thinking more like hip dysplasisa. Well i was wrong, the vet came back in and said that he had tested positive for Lyme. Not the news i wanted to hear. He was put on antibiotics (which he will be on for the next 3 weeks, (as i am writing this it has been a week since he has been on them) and he was also put on an anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, there has NOT been much improvement in Boz. And as of today he has been on medication for 8 full days. We have been letting the dogs out 1 at a time to go potty so that they wont run around, and i have been walking Boz short distances 2ce a day. This is making for a very unhappy boxer. All he wants to do is run with Cami, but due to him limping, the vet (and both my husband & I) want him to take it easy. Which we all know is like trying to rope a hurricane with a boxer. We will have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. I feel that all dogs need to be tested for Lyme and MOST definatley put on a flea/tick preventative so that things like this don't happen. It is so much less expensive in the long run to prevent than to have to treat. UPDATE 8/8/10 - Bosco continues to do well. We are doing obedience weekly with him, although he is stubborn and gets fustrated and distracted very easily. He has become very very protective of our kids and home. But will melt into a kidney bean as soon as you say his name. His favorite thing to do now is get brushed. he just stands and groans and wiggles. He just loves it. I really don't have any other news to report on him, he is doing well and has adjusted to our household wonderfully. oh i forgot...he DOES NOT like cats. there was a stray cat on our porch the other day and of course i didnt know about it, i let both dogs out and there went the cat with Bosco right after it growling and snarling, he chased it up the tree and we had to drag him back in the house until the cat came down and took off. Meanwhile he was starting out the window just watching it. So NO CATS for this house! UPDATE 7/7/10 - We just returned home from a long holiday vacation with the family and both dogs. While we were on vacation we learned a few things about Bosco. #1 he loves the woods, streams, truck rides and campfires with kids (kids were feeding him treats) #2 He does NOT like male puppies. We had to keep our friends 14 week old male boxer away from Bosco. Bosco snapped at him numerous times. So this will be something that we address during our Obedience classes, which started last night. But during our camping trip Bosco got to sleep on the couch with Cami, so he was a "happy camper" Bosco is adjusting well to being in our house and is very protective of the house now. Our FEDEX guy was terrified to come down the driveway when he heard them barking and they were in the house with the front door shut. We offered to let him meet the dogs, but he said no. They sounded to mean for him, which was pretty funny because if you have boxers you know, they are all bark, (and very rarely bite) Bosco is now playing frisbee and tug of war with Cami all the time. He is learning to wait a few minutes before he gets to eat and to slow down when eating, when he got here he would eat so quick that he would throw up. He has also learned to sit and wait before he runs out the front door (dogs bolting out the door before you have it open or let them out is a huge pet peeve of mine) He doesn't care much for being outside with or without for long periods of time (even if it is cool out) and he will body slam the door to get our attention to come back in. But if we are outside with them he will run, run, run, run and run till he's pooped out from playing with Cami. He still listens to Harry better than me but again this is something that we are working hard on and we still think that he was a "man's dog" but he just loves the kids & Cami so that's a good thing. UPDATE 6/18/10 - WOW, Thank you SCBR! Boscoe has been a SUPER FANTASTIC AWESEOME addition to our family. We have had him for 2 weeks now & it is amazing what a little time & patience will do for a dog. He has made himself right at home (and i mean that literally) here. Both he and Cami have the run of the house and NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING has been destroyed, chewed, soiled or even touched while we are gone during the day. Boscoe met my father in law's dog, a cranky, older Shih Tzu & well of course it was ok for her (she is not fixed) to sniff his hind end, but when he went to return that favor she went berzerk on him, i swear he looked like scooby-doo trying to run away, his feet were moving super fast, but he wasnt going anywhere. He didn't growl, bark or bite back, he RAN away. As mad as i was at the shih tzu, i couldn't help but laugh because it was comical to see. But after a few rounds of the "i would like to sniff you" the shih tzu calmed down. Boscoe then proceeded to do the boxer "i wanna play" stance and barked at her with his nubby going like crazy. Needless to say, she doesn't play so he resorted to chasing Cami around the yard for a while. He also met some of my father in law's neighbor's horses and was terrified of them until he seen Cami sniff one of the horses muzzle. then he calmed down. We have also learned that Boscoe like to bark at loud noises. I am thinking that he is trying to see if he can be louder. He is doing great on the underground fencing and walking is FABULOUS. He is finally eating what we call in our house "cookies" which are hard dog bisquits, and he has discover that Peanut Butter is a GREAT THING. We had him to another one of my son's soccer games and again he was just loving all the attention. We just had to keep all the soccer balls away from him, we found out at home that he like to put holes in them. My friend stopped by last night with her 16 month old and her 1 month old and all Boscoe wanted to do is like the 1 month old. He was very very concerned about this baby. I showed him the baby and let him sniff her. He really didnt leave my side while i was holding her. He pretty much ignored the 16 month old until he had some choc chip cookies in his hand, but we told him no begging and he went back to me and the baby. When i put the baby back in the car seat carrier i set her down on the porch and he put his head on babys lap and just sat there with her. I was very nervous about this but we let him go and after a few minutes he took his head out licked her and off to play with Cami he went. We go today to the vet to get a checkup and microchipped (we need him microchipped in our county to get a lifetime license). So this will be a new experience again for Boscoe and us. I also need to figure out how to send in some updated pictures of him...any help there would be appriciated. SUPER BIG THANK YOU TO SCBR!! UPDATE 6/11/10 - We have had Boscoe for a week now & he is doing great. He and Cami are doing great together and it seems like they have know each other forever. I found them sleeping together on Cami's dog pillow yesterday, it was so cute, they were all balled up and their noses were touching. Boscoe really doesn't bother much with our kids but he definatley enjoys being a shadow to Harry or I if we are in the house. Outside, its a different story, he's more interested in playing frisbee with Cami or boxing or wrestling with her. We have only had one incident concerning the dogs and that was 3 days after he was here and i had just put the food down and Boscoe, being the male that he is, sniffed Cami back end while she was eating and she didn't think much of that and snapped at him, he backed right off and there has been no more problems. They eat at the same time in the same area with no problems and we are leaving them both loose with free run of our downstairs of the house. No accidents, nothing chewed, only our recliner chair has been moved across the room, probably from them playing. I get up and walk them about a 1/2 mile first thing in the morning before i leave for school and then they get to play outside when I come home and it really does seem to tire them out and they sleep good at night. We took both dogs with us last night to our son's soccer game & they were great, everyone loved them. I was a little nervous as to how Boscoe would react to all the people, noise, kids and soccer balls, but he did great, but we did learn that he wants to play soccer just as much as the kids do. I had a hard time getting him to sit still. Kids were coming up to us and asking to pet both dogs and there were no problems. HE LOVED all the attention. So far he has been a GREAT addition to our family. UPDATE 6/7/10 - Well, we have had Bosco home for 2 days now and he is WONDERFUL. He loves the kids and is doing great with our boxer girl, Cami. He is a dream to walk. We have been leaving him loose in the house and both him and Cami have done great, we are trying to get him interested in peanut butter. He is the first boxer i have come across that has almost no interest in it. He loves running around the yard with Cami and sleeps on the recliner (with our permission). He slept with us the first night here and there was just no room with two 60lb boxers and 2 adults in a Queen size bed. More Updates to come on this great boy. Thank you SCBR! 6/5/10 - I was adopted today! 5/24/10 - What can I say about this sweet boy Bosco? He is such a good boy. He fits right in here with us like he has always been here. He loves to play all day so he would do great with another fur brother or sister. He goes to the door when he needs to go out and makes the cutest sound, kinda like a little baby. SOOO Cute. He stays with me most of the time, but enjoys chewing on a bone too. He plays with balls and loves to play box. I allow him upstairs with us at night and he does just fine. The first night he checked to make sure I was still there a few times but now he just settles in and sleeps all night. I like him alot he is one of those dogs that I could get very attached too. I dont have one bad thing to say about him. He goes to the vet tomorrow to get neutered and his shots. Then he will be ready to go. Are you looking for a wonderful boy who will fit right in with you? Bosco is your guy. 5/17/10 - Boscoe came in early Saturday morning as an owner surrender. He was nervous, but traveled well in the car. He was all boxer wiggles when we got home and wanted to play with the resident dogs right away. But, he went into his crate for a hour or so and did fairly well for not being crate trained before this. No barking, he settled down and took a little nap. He had a wonderful bath and got a new collar. I've never seen a dog so scared to be in the tub, but after a good massage he relaxed. He loves to play!! He could play all day. He loves Lina, the resident female, and they entertain each other. It was a beautiful day here yesterday, so we played in the yard and he even chased a ball my son threw. He didnt feel comfortable enough to give me any kisses until yesterday. I was glad to get those from him. He is very frendly and loves all, dogs and people alike. Walks great on a leash. He is a good boy. As soon as he gets to the vet he will be all ready to go to his forever home. What a sweet boy he is. |
