UPDATE 4/19/10 - Bonnie is doing great. She is fitting right in. She is very well behaved - we have given her free run of the house since she got her (only one casualty - a book left on the floor). She has taken to snuggling with our Wheaton (Chloe). We took her on her first trip from NH to Long Island (we do this often). She was a pro - she rode on the ferry, met lots of other dogs and adoring children. She had her first vet visit - they loved her. She got a clean bill of health. She still needs to take off a couple of pounds - but it seems to be coming off steadily. We are still working on walking on the leash, we are making progress, hopefully her classes will help. She is very well behaved, lots of energy which is great for Chloe. She is enjoying her numerous squeeky toys. She has really added to our family - we feel so fortunate to have her!

UPDATE 3/21/10 - It's been one full week since we have adopted Bonnie and she is absolutely wonderful.  She met her sister a Wheaton Terrier, Chloe and they are getting along well.  They both are still trying to determine who is the dominant one by  taking each others toys and that's expected.  We take them both on morning walks before going to work and Bonnie is doing well on the leash.  She is very loving and enjoys all the attention.

We will be in contact with a trainer within the next week and get her some "basic" training. However its obvious she is trained and listens well.  She can be stubborn when she wants to be.  Oh and she does love to run after those squirrels.

We are so fortunate we have her.

3/13/10 - I was adopted today!

3/6/10 -
Bonnie has got to be the perfect dog!
No accidents in the house, doesn't mind the vacuum cleaner, doesn't
really need to be crated, has earned full house privileges, uses the dog
door with no problem, is not normally a jumper, plays well with others,
is toy motivated, walks pretty well on leash, and is really cat
friendly. Of course if a cat is outside and in the dog yard, and runs,
it will get chased by any and all dogs that happen to be there. Angel
found that out yesterday. She went under the storage building, I got
the dogs in and a few minutes later in came Angel.
I showed Bonnie the "stash" of doggie toys and she decided that she is
in "doggie heaven". She seems to enjoy squeaky toys the most.
She would like to be Alpha, but I refuse to relinquish my status. She
threatened Clara, once and I said, "NO"! She has not tried to be Alpha since, to my knowledge.
This is one very nice dog and I cannot understand why anyone would give
her up!

3/2/10 -
Bonnie saw the vet today and was very well behaved, allowed the vet to
do all the necessary checking and didn't complain about her shots.
The vet said she is about 3 years of age, and in very good shape. Nice
disposition and very solid. She feels that Bonnie will not be around
long because she is such a nice dog.
This evening, after a long period of play and segregation in the family
room, I put Bonnie on leash and took her in the livingroom. I was
trying to settle her down so that I could watch a program. Pepper, boss
cat, decides that he wants to sit on my lap! So, he just walks right by
Bonnie and under my legs and jumps onto my lap. Bonnie sticks that huge
head in my lap and Pepper just ignores her! So, Bonnie is apparently
"cat friendly"!
The vet and I are in agreement that Bonnie is overweight and she will
continue on the diet that I already started as soon as she got here!
Bonnie is a really "quick study" as she started using the dog door on
her own yesterday afternoon, hardly 24 hours after arriving. This is
one smart girl. It won't be long before she has whole house privileges
and won't be crated at night.

3/1/10
- Bonnie and I are just getting acquainted.
Bonnie is a very rugged girl with a beautiful rich fawn coat and lovely
black mask. I am anxious to find out what she weighs. I suspect about
70 lbs! She could definitely stand to lose a few pounds. She refused
food last night, but did eat a small breakfast this morning. I suspect
she was allowed to eat all she wanted. That will not happen here. She
has had ample exercise today out running with Rose, Sam and Fenway.
She has had pups in the past. We will be starting her 'vet experience' tomorrow afternoon and then I should know more about her and be able to do a sensible top box.
She does show interest in the cats, but her tail is wagging. We shall
see. She does know sit, and will give her paw. She has a very appealing way
of holding her paw up. I have pictures and need to take more and will
then send them on tomorrow.
She is balky about going into the crate, but will go in. She probably
doesn't need crating, but I like to be sure of things before allowing a
dog full privileges.
