7/18/10 - I was adopted today!

7/12/10 -
Bobby has been with us for 4 weeks now.  He has our schedule down pat.  He wakes me up right before my alarm goes off at 5am.  We go outside, do his business, very fast b/c I’m not so steady on my feet until the 1st cup of coffee.  Then it’s breakfast time.  After breakfast he takes a nap while the people get ready to leave.  He is a little bit of a cry baby on Monday b/c he’s been so spoiled all weekend having us around all the time.  Before we leave he gets more potty time and some running around the yard.  When it’s time for us to go he gets a marrow bone and his toys are easily accessible for the day.  I think he just naps for the 4.5 hrs he’s regularly alone.  The longest we’ve left him is 6.5 hours with free rein.  He does not need to be crated.  He has never gotten into anything while we have been gone.  I love seeing his face in the window when I pull into the driveway.  It took him awhile to figure out the garage door noise was FM coming home.
The one thing he did get into while my back was turned was my lamb and chicken shish kabob.  I was so sad, I had been waiting for that all day.  My own fault though, I’m used to my girl not touching anything.  Oh well he did leave me 3 pieces of chicken.  Darn tootin’ I ate it.  It’s not as though I took it out of his mouth.  So a little counter surfing is a probability.
Bobby has excellent hearing and is very aware of everything going on around him.  He’s not much of an alerting barker unless my girl gets him going.  But when he does bark it sounds ferocious.  He does the play bow and rough barking when he wants to play in the house.  It might be scary to anyone who doesn’t know him.  He calms down with some dominant body language (I move toward him) and a “no”.  Then he gets that sad look and makes a cute little disappointed whimper.  He doesn’t quite understand that he can’t play with people the way he does with other dogs.  So I think older children would be best for now.
Speaking of other dogs.  Someone asked me how he was with boy dogs.  So my friend and fellow volunteer agreed to let him meet her Ty.  Well let me tell ya.  He does GREAT with other dogs!  We ended up with 4-5 boys playing at the park.  He ran and wrestled and jumped into the water, only up to his neck though.  Everyone had a great time until the little dog came.  Three of our dogs all wanted to chase him around.  Some of our fur kids have this silly obsession with little dogs.  I don’t get it.
Wow, that’s a lot of information for now.  Please get your app in for this great guy.  It’ll be the best thing you’ve ever done… for you and him.

This boy is amazing. He is still nervous, complete with a little panting and drooling in a new situation, but it doesn’t stop him from wiggling his nub and calmly greeting people. He did fantastic at the vet last night, giving kisses. He was a little too pushy with his nose in private places for one dog he met. He is adjusting with courage, curiosity and typical boxer enthusiasm. He’s almost like a puppy experiencing some things for the 1st time but without the housetraining and nipping. He actually gave me his belly Tuesday night. I almost cried. With strangers he is head shy, not aggressively, just a subtle down and back move. He lets me touch him all over now.
He likes to play with Panda in the yard but gets winded a lot quicker than she does. We are still keeping them separated in the house b/c it’s safer for all of my belongings. (Panda is relentless when it comes to playing.) I do not crate him unless we are leaving the house for awhile. Actually, I’m going to try him on free roam later today. He does the panting and drooling in the crate. And he’s learned that marrow bones are yummmmmmmmmy.
He’s not eating too much but the vet and I agree that it’s ok b/c he has a tiny bit of extra weight so it’s ok for now.  Oh yeah, he rides beautifully in the car.

Bobby came to us yesterday.   He seems to love everyone.  He kissed my friend all the way home when he wasn’t laying down in the back relaxing.  He is very handsome and sweet.  We have already fallen hard for his “love me” eyes.  He sits without being asked to when he knows something good is coming. He loves the yard.  He waits to be told what to do.  He just wants to please.  He and the cat have met but Bling is cautious b/c of Panda, who doesn’t get it.  All Bobby has done is sniff her and walk away. He’s a big leaner and he’s a tiny bit too heavy.  He’s just a little stocky for his height but still has the perfect Boxer form.   I will update again as soon as he’s completely settled in.
