UPDATE 8/29/10 - Batista is settling in well after a very long journey to his forever home here in Cheshire.  He fared better than the children on the 800 miles round trip in little more than 24 hours.
He is enjoying the new surroundings, Walks, games of fetch and hanging with the family.  He is definitely not liking to be left alone and we are working through the anxiety.  As he comes to realize he is not going anywhere and neither are we, the fear will lessen.
We started obedience class 2 days after he came and being a 4 year old, he was a star of the class.  He worked well with me and was doted upon by the instructor as well.  He is learning some basics like proper leash training, but is a very well behaved boy to begin with.
He is already a favorite of the neighborhood kids and is holding court with them every day.
That's all for now...

8/22/10 - I was adopted today!

8/6/10 -
Hi, Batista here.  I'm still waiting for my forever family to realize that I'm the one.  Fostermama says I am such a good boy she would keep me but something about limits on numbers of dogs she can have, it's all very confusing as I get along with everyone.  Heck, even the resident cats sleep next to me.  Fostermama gives me kisses and scratches my head and I make her laugh when I do the low purring sound like the resident cats make.   I now prefer out of the crate, I need to hang with all the resident dogs and cats, so I've had full & complete run of the house all day long while Fostermama & Fosterpapa are at work, they make a big deal out of me being good for not having any accidents in the house, not chewing anything, no counter surfing and just plain behaving.  Not sure what that's all about, I'm just being me.  Why would anyone go to the bathroom inside the house? Dude, that is so not cool.  Oh, I got a brand new squeeky tennis ball, man that thing is awesome! Fostermama thought it was cute that I slept with it the first night I got it, hey you can't beat that new ball smell.  I sleep in bed with everyone, Fostermama, Fosterpapa, 2 resident boxers and 1 of the cats.  I hope my forever family is cool with that. I will chill with you when it's tv time, no one should ever watch tv alone or for that matter, vaccum alone, be in the bathroom, kitchen, hallway, bedroom, outside or just anywhere alone.  I will check up on you to make sure you're doing ok then I will go lay down while you do your thing, if you need me I'll be over in a corner chillaxing.  So with all that being said, where is my forever family?  Who are you, where are you from, are you single, married, kids, other furbabies, big yard, or will we go for walks? I've got so much to catch up with you and so much stuff I want to do with you. We could play ball, that's my favorite, what's your favorite thing to do? I was hoping we would get the chance to hang out while the weather is still nice.  Well.... that's all I've got for now, I need to get off the computer so the other resident dogs have a turn they like to enter regular updates on facebook.   Batista

Batista met our 21 month old Grandson last night at a family dinner we hosted.  As soon as we set the baby in the big chair Batista hopped up and snuggled and watched Yo Gaba Gaba together and was perfectly fine when our Grandson suddenly jumped up and started dancing and marching in the chair, this happened within 5 minutes of our Grandson being in the house. Fosterpops has been away on business since Batista arrived until yesterday, Fostermama kept assuring Batista that while she was at work today, Fosterpops would be coming home to meet him so don't be scared. (He's a good watch dog and will bark when someone arrives)  The meeting went perfect,(he barked when Fosterpops arrived), but not a bit of fear was displayed, this pup is one of those personalities that you want to give a verbal list of things you need from the corner store and be assured that he will come back with everything on the list, he listens and comprehends that well. So yesterday was a big day, all that activity, a crowd in the house, a toddler, new man in the house and good food(surf & turf he found the shrimp very acceptable).  He's a little fearful of new men when he first meets them but he was perfect the moment he met Fosterpops, he remembered meeting FosterGrandpa from the night before where he was scared then, but tonight he was fine like old friends.  He's not scared where he's going to do anything he just moves quickly in the other direction. He was hit in his past so he's nervous that he's going to come across a hitter...... Fostermama keeps assuring him that his forever family is serious about him, they have been searching for him, they are not going to hit him, all he needs is verbal and he understands.  He really does nothing wrong, he talks to the other dogs a little bit, a low growl when they think they are going to take his treats, but Fostermam can take anything away from him, he comes over with toys and wants to share with Fostermama and now with the resident dogs so he's getting used to a crowd of dogs that corner him and want to clean his ears and check to make sure he's ok. He's not aggressive, he's right there wih you part of every moment, he's pretty dark in color if you're moving around the house at night he blends pretty well I'm always checking to see where he is, not to worry he's in the room you just have to adjust your eyes to see him lol.

Batista was Neutered today and is home resting peacefully in his crate w/soft bed and lights out, ceiling fan on high. When Fostermama left him with the doctor he was telling the doctor you don't need to knock me out I'm a Boxer just give me a rawhide to bite down on, needless to say the doctor got her way.  He was still pretty loopy when Fostermama picked him up so she carried him into the house, upstairs and put him to bed. All the way up the stairs, Fostermama kept mumbling something "he aint heavy he's my Fosterboxer"!  Good news, he's also heartworm negative.  We have not had any more accidents in the house at all since his first day, he just needed a refresher course, as mentioned in an earlier update on how smart we are,  he knows at 5:15am when the alarm goes off he whines lightly from his crate to let Fostermama know... "Please don't hit the snooze button, some us have got to go potty.. now.. please"  He's allowed to cuddle on the furniture during tv time with everyone(dogs, Fostermama, cats) and he's great at supervision, when Fostermama runs the vaccuum he makes sure she does not miss a spot. Bathroom/shower time, don't worry if you leave the door open... he will lie down on the floor in the bathroom and wait for you....take your time he's not in a hurry, hey.. you're the one that left the door open.  We also discovered the squeeky tennis ball.... you can push down on it with your paw or mouth and it makes noise, this is great!!!!

Batista arrived at Foster Mom's house and met the resident dogs all went well.  No issues.  He gets along fine with the cats but is super curious like he's never been around cats so he just wants to sniff them, lucky one of the resident cats thinks he's a dog and was super patient. We will be tested with our 21 mo old grandson soon will update soon.  He went right into the crate when he saw it, no issues.  Slept overnight in the crate inside Foster Mom's room, not a peep was heard from him.  We are super smart, while Foster Mom was at work the first day, Mr. Batista freed himself from his crate and had full run of the house ALL day, nothing chewed or messed up but a couple accidents in the house.  So his crate has been reinforced so muscles Batista wont be able to do it again lol. We are getting neutered on 7/21/10, this should cut down marking his spots we forgot ourselves a just a couple times in the house but Foster Mom made it very clear that is not the place so that has been corrected.  He is a very handsome brindle with black mask, we need a little bit of weight put on, but he's already relaxed and is is eating well. Foster Mom did the test where she hands him a raw hide and then nicely picks it up from him, no issues.  He wants to climb up on Foster Moms lap and claim her with a little warning to the other dogs, this is stopped immediately by moving him along no issues...he does cuddle on the ottoman with the other dogs while Foster Mom is watching tv and he's nothing but a sweetie, will lay on the floor while you're on the computer, matter of fact that's what he's doing now snuggled next to the resident dogs, he's looking for his forever family & I told him his forever family is looking for him as well so get your applications in asap....he's a good boy and he will get snatched up quickly.
