| UPDATE 9/1/10 - Bailey has settled in fine with the family members. He and our 9 year old St. Bernard (Max) really don't have much to do with each other. They have play tug-a-war once but other than that they pretty much ignore each other. Bailey is a "people" dog. He follows around who ever is home and is often under foot. He loves his toys and brings them to mostly mom or dad to play with. When our youngest comes home from school Bailey is ready for his afternoon walk, he waits at the door as she comes up the driveway.
Baily and the Cat (Harlee)...well we are still have a few issues here. Bailey is very curious about Harlee but Harlee wants no part of Bailey at the moment. Where ever Bailey is Harlee is not!!! When Harlee comes to eat or wants to go out she tries to sneak around Bailey but often he spots here and the chase is on. When I command him to stay he stops in is tracks and comes back. It's a work in progress. Bailey also LOVES the couch, we don't allow the pets on the couch and we even purchased him a comfy bed but apparently it's not as comfy as the couch. As soon as we go to bed or leave the house he is right up on the couch. When we come back in the house and he sees us he jumps off and runs into his bed...He even tried to play dead and dropped on his side. It was pretty funny! He is such a sweet dog and I'm glad we have him in our family. He will be going on his first camping trip this weekend and we will post pictures when we get them. UPDATE 8/13/10 - I don't know where to start. Bailey has fit into our family with such ease. During this past week he has met most of my children, all adults, and seems to love all of them. He is such a "Boxer" Full of wiggles and energy. We have learned that he loves driving in cars. The two hour drive home from his foster family was perfect He slept most of the way but let us know he needed a potty break just before the Sturbridge service area. What timing !!!We haven't felt the need to restrict his living area. He so good when left alone but that is very rare since he follows me every where I go. He sleeps in our bedroom on a doggie bed. He did try to sleep on the big bed his first night, but after being told "down" he got right off and went straight to his bed. He eats like a champ a little to fast though.Drinks alot of water and then spits it up. Like a baby. I think we are going to get him that special water dish that some how slows them down. The night my younger son came by was full of surprises. Bailey knows a great number of tricks. My favorite one is holding a dog cookie on his nose until he's told ok and then he flips it in the air and right into his big ole mouth. every day brings a new discovery about ole Bailey. It's such a joy to once again have a Boxer in our lives. Tom took him to Petsmart and what a gentleman he was. Didn't take even 1 toy off the shelves. Tom is a huge Bruins fan and don't you know we discovered a bruins collar and leash. Of course Tom bought it. So now Bailey has a new harness, collar and leash all matching(that was my idea)and a flashy gold and black Bruins set. Bailey plays with all the toys in his toy box almost every day. we have alot of toys we couldn't part with after our boxer,Tucker, was put down last summer so It takes me about a half hour to round them up at the end of the day. While still at his foster family's we were extremely impressed by the way Bailey and the resident 2 1/2 y.o. boy interacted. there were a few things Bailey didn't get spooked by, a hug coming up from behind,a little ride on toy that made a rather loud noise, and an awful looking fall taken by the littleboy . Through all of it Bailey was so calm and well behaved. Tom was especially impressed by the way Bailey responded, we are about to become grand parents and are a bit relieved that a new baby/toddler etc. won't be a big issue. All in all,it has been an wonderful week.We seem to be a "complete" family once again. A big thanks to SCBR for allowing us to be ,once again the proud parents of a Boxer. It's only been a week but Bailey has touched our hearts insuch a way.I guess we didn't realize just how much we missed having a Boxer in our lives. Well thats all for now. I'll up date again soon as I'm sure there will be more to fill you in on, such as obedience classes and all the little antics our little guy teaches us daily. Be back soon!!!! 8/7/10 - I was adopted today! 7/31/10 - Bailey here, FM says I'm doing wonderfully. We have been going for walks and I do really well. I don't pull much at all. We even walked with a 3 wheeled stroller and I wasn't scared at all. We met some dogs on the way and I sat and waited for them to pass, but others I said hello to and wanted to play...FM wouldn't let me get too frisky. FM is very impressed with me because I know some commands such as sit, stay, come, wait, and even lie down. The senior dog is also teaching me some new ones. I also don't bark much, unless I am trying to tell you someone is here. FM says I have to see the doctor soon, not too sure about that, but OK. FM- Bailey really has done well adjusting to his new foster home. He has taken a bath without any problems and I didn't even get that wet. He does seem to be really interested in people food, but he doesn't counter surf or steal from my 2yr old. He begs a little, but is easily redirected. He is eating well as he was slightly underweight when he arrived. He is starting to play with my senior resident female and they both love to run in the fenced in backyard. He does continue to follow me around and loves to snuggle or lie by or on my feet. He prefers to sleep against me in bed, but will sleep in dog bed. Bailey is still a little nervous about the crate, but we are working on it. The good news is that I have left him out in the house and both Bailey and the house were fine when I got home. 7/29/10 - Bailey arrived here this morning after a short car ride during which he was a very well behaved passenger. He has been quietly following me around the house snuggling when he can or lying at my feet. He has met my 2 yr old son and has done well with him, even through a temper tantrum. He is very sweet, not much of a kisser though.More to follow as he settles in. |
